Birds of a feather do tend to flock together and now it seems the daughter of the pension pot plundering thief Robert Maxwell’s lawyer has moved on and taken on another alleged scammer. Now, it seems, fresh from failing to keep her out of the clink in 2021, mucky madam Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyer Mark S. Cohen has taken on alleged cryptocurrency conman Sam Bankman-Fried.
Said to once be worth as much as £21.5 billion ($26.5 billion, €25 billion or درهم97.3 billion) but now down to one working credit card with “maybe £81,000 ($100,000, €95,000 or درهم367,000) in that bank account,” self-declared “I didn’t ever try to commit fraud” Bankman-Fried is surely hardly a dream client but clearly Cohen, a former assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York, is banking on getting a win rather than a lose this time round.
Given, however, that Bankman-Fried also spoke “against the advice of his lawyers” earlier this month at The New York Times’ Dealbook Summit, one is simply left questioning this managing partner at Cohen & Gresser’s rationale. In fact, let’s get to the point: Is Mark S. Cohen just a man who is actually a magnet for multimillionaire megalomaniacs who simply cannot and will not ever pay their bills?

Supposedly, as we revealed in September, at least £3 million to the various lawyers she hired in conjunction with both her husband Scott Borgerson and brother Kevin Maxwell, the former lover of Jeffrey Epstein now needs another £845,000 to even begin working on any appeal against her 20-year prison sentence.
“Mr Borgerson controls almost all of Maxwell’s funds through a trust fund, which includes what she has left from the £12.6 million sale of her New York home.”
“It was previously reported that the firm was repeatedly told by Kevin Maxwell that Borgerson was in control of Maxwell’s assets and that it was because of him the payments were delayed.”
“Mr Borgerson, who married Maxwell in 2016, reportedly met with her brother Kevin and her US lawyers to discuss the appeal.
“A source claimed to the paper that Mr Borgerson was ‘being difficult’ but promised to send the funds. However, in a separate instance, the firm later accused him of acting under ‘false pretenses’ after not receiving the money.”
“The source added: ‘Her lawyers have not been paid. That is a serious matter in itself. Worse, she needs to come up with another $1million to fund the appeal. Right now, Scott’s given her nothing.’”
“When contacted by The Mirror, Mr Borgerson pointed to a court document from September that showed Colorado law firm Haddon, Morgan and Foreman, which acted for Maxwell in the trial, said Mr Borgerson ‘expressed cooperation, transparency and honesty’ in regards to the ‘alleged transfers of property.’ He refused to comment further.”
Going further, we today suggest, it is time for forensic analysis of what other funds Miss Maxwell has managed to stash away with the help of Borgerson and her family. Again, we ask: “What happened to the £500 million plundered from pensioners and funneled by Jeffrey Epstein – a man who met Robert Maxwell long before his daughter did – to build a lifestyle beyond ludicrous for his daughter in America and elsewhere?” Evidence suggests this money was managed not only by the since croaked Ponzi schemer, but also held in locations including Jersey and Lichtenstein and it is now pertinent that the relevant authorities do their due diligence and locate these funds.
Meanwhile elsewhere, it seems that others who’ve fallen victim to ‘The Bouncing Czech’s’ deviant daughter’s inability to cough up include her pugnacious PR peddlers Brian Basham and Jay Beecher. Clearly making a stramash out of the fact that there’s still plenty of Epstein cash floating around, two separate lawsuits filed in the U.S. District for the Southern District of New York on Thursday allege the financial institutions knowingly benefitted from “assisting, supporting, facilitating, and otherwise providing the most critical service for the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking organisation to successfully rape, sexually assault, and coercively sex traffic” the women in spite of their having knowledge about Epstein’s nefarious activities.
Going further the anonymous plaintiffs allege that both firms were happy to “earn millions of dollars” facilitating a since croaked and already convicted paedophile criminal and “chose profit over following the law.” Here were institutions, the alleged victims stated, ignored “red flags” and of them, Bradley Edwards, a lawyer in one of the cases, stated: “The time has come for the real enablers to be held responsible, especially his wealthy friends and the financial institutions that played an integral role. These victims were wronged, by many, not just Epstein. He did not act alone.”
They add that Epstein would have been unable to keep his sex trafficking operation going without “the assistance and complicity” of banking institutions and that the involvement of Deutsche and JP Morgan gave “the appearance of legitimacy.”
In another part of the filing, featured in the DailyMail.com, it was further observed that the two firms “knew that Epstein would use means of force, threats of force, fraud, abuse of legal process, exploitation of power disparity, and a variety of other forms of coercion to cause young women and girls to engage in commercial sex acts” and “also engaged in repeated acts of racketeering activity to support the Epstein organisation.”
Tellingly, the online title also shared: “[Deutsche] was fined $150 million by state regulators in 2020 for failings which included not intervening as Epstein paid women’s tuition and gave suspicious payments to Russian models and women with Eastern European names. The [firm] had a responsibility to monitor his accounts because he was a registered sex offender.”
Whilst Deutsche told The Hill that “this claim lacks merit” and JPMorgan “declined to comment,” one is left asking why these two women haven’t also gone after another key player in this matter, Barclays, and its quite rightly now disgraced Epstein ‘bestie’ former CEO, Jes Staley.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s schoolmate Dame Cressida Dick’s bleating about her deserved demise should be called out as the disgrace that it truly is; with her turfed out with the trash it is now time for institutional change at the Met Police; no excuses should be accepted
“She felt intimidated by the Mayor of London” before her resignation claimed some blithering bore of Dame Cressida Dick DBE, QPM on Radio 4’s ‘PM’ last night in spite of the fact that all this useless woman achieved between 2017 and 2022 as Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis.
Born in 1960, just like her Oxford school and university mate Ghislaine Maxwell – both were taught by Dame Cressida’s father Marcus Dick, a senior tutor at Balliol College – the now deservedly binned former Metropolitan Police chief’s bleatings should be treated with the contempt they well and truly deserved given she presided over and did nothing about racism and misogyny.
Responding this morning on Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme Leroy Logan MBE, a founding member in 1994 and longtime chair of the Black Police Association, quite rightly slammed Dame Cressida’s tenur and added:
“[It is time for the Met Police to adopt a] culture that embraces a more positive culture of embracing whistleblowers… It is time for them to go against the ‘don’t grass on your colleagues’ culture.”
“They have been marking their own homework during the tenure of this last government… They have to acknowledge that they got things wrong.”
Whilst protocol was completely ignored during Dame Cressida’s tenure and public trust in law enforcement in London was very badly damaged as result, it is now time for better vetting of officers. It is also time that the Metropolitan Police spoke the truth to the powerful politicians who’ve had overly too much influence over it for far too long and with “bye, bye Boris” (and “good riddance” also) being sung in the streets on Monday, it is time for a new era of honesty and transparency.

In the years that followed, Hoffenberg went on to become a man who ultimately came to blame his protégé for his own imprisonment for twenty years in 1997 for his £404 million ($475 million, €479 million or درهم1.7 billion) Towers Financial Corporation fraud – which became known as the largest Ponzi scheme in history until Bernie Madoff was exposed in 2008.
Brooklyn born, originally Jewish and later rather predictably a born-again Christian, Hoffenberg – whose exact date of birth remains unknown and whose first suspected brush with the law, which he always claimed to be a case of mistaken identity, was connected to the theft of a £12,800 ($15,000, €15,100 or درهم55,100) diamond ring in 1971 – made his first fortune buying debt in the 1970s. He is said to have been introduced to Jeffrey Epstein through the British “arms dealer” and intelligence asset Douglas Leese (1927 – 2011) in 1987 – a man said to be the former’s “mentor” since they had first met in London in 1981. Leese’s son, Julian, however, span the tale of the introduction slightly differently when he spoke on the Defiance podcast and claimed it was he, himself, who did the introducing and not anything like that that Hoffenberg repeatedly purported in his many media interviews.
At that time, whilst Leese was not only fraternising with the likes of Adnan Khashoggi and Prince Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud doing billion dollar arms deals, he also is said to have recommended Epstein to Hoffenberg by tellingly, given what was to come in future years, supposedly shared: “The guy’s a genius, he’s great at selling securities. And he has no moral compass.”
With Epstein brought into his orbit as first an employee – though remarkably never his patsy – Hoffenberg embarked on a series of corporate raids that included failed bids for Pan Am and the Emery Air Freight Corp and finally very briefly in 1994, ownership of the New York Post.
The feature, by a journalist named Diana B. Henriques, revealed that Hoffenberg was scuppered in a similar fashion to Madoff – whose failure to repay the small investment of the cleaner of the feeder fund honcho Frank Avellino’s resulted in her going to the FBI and the beginning of his end – by a small-time amateur newsman and “self-taught muckraker” from Rushton, Louisiana named John Hays.
“Hard-drinking, chain-smoking, cowboy-booted… blunt back-country publisher who [loved] to raise a ruckus” Hays had long claimed Hoffenberg was trying to pull a Ponzi-like scam in his neck of the woods, but had been met with mockery, resistance and disinterest. His hunch, however, paid off when “whatever money could buy” private jet possessing Hoffenberg’s decision to buy the New York Post threw him before nationwide limelight and scrutiny that ultimately resulted in the crook’s conviction on five counts of securities fraud, tax evasion and obstruction of a Securities and Exchange Commission inquiry.
After getting out of jail after serving 18 years for a con that resulted in 200,000 investors losing vast amounts of money, “still deviant to his core” Hoffenberg conveniently found God and illustrated his continuing ability to cross political and social divides by marrying outside Trump Tower in 2014. That the body of this one-time associate of others linked to Bill Clinton was found alone and left decomposing in a grotty flat in Derby, Connecticut after a welfare call from Jeffrey Epstein accuser Maria Farmer also speaks volumes as how the once mighty can well and truly fall.
As Kirby Sommers rightly concluded of someone with the same moral compass as Bernard L. Madoff and Charles Ponzi himself: “To be frank, I didn’t trust him. He lied throughout his life… Throughout the last couple of years, he spoke of the money left in Epstein’s estate as ‘belonging to him.’ [He] claimed the money that disappeared in Towers Financial was stolen by Jeffrey Epstein. And, his goal was to get a piece of the money Epstein left behind.”
Steven Hoffenberg most certainly failed in that goal and like Charles Ponzi probably died delusionally believing: “Even if they never got anything for it, it was cheap at that price. Without malice aforethought, I had given them the best show that was ever staged in their territory since the landing of the Pilgrims! It was easily worth fifteen million bucks to watch me put the thing over.”

Reviewing it, Epsteinsblackbook.com remarked: “This is interesting indeed, as he tells of his friendship from the time young Jeffrey Epstein (pictured above with Lord Mandelson) visited his family outside London to learn about the British upper-class life. Julian taught Jeffrey how to shoot a hunting rifle, and Epstein taught young Julian about maths, and probably how to pick up girls. Douglas Leese taught Epstein about how to live like an aristocrat, and possibly about shady dealings with corrupt regimes. Leese describes Epstein as very charming, very bright, very ambitious, and very interested in sex. He does not excuse any of Epstein’s acts, but claims to be completely unknowing of any illegalities from either Epstein, himself, or his father Douglas Leese. He further describes Epstein as a tragic character in his later years, after he got arrested in 2008, and that his suicide was not surprising. After being taken into the warmth by the Leese family, Epstein did ruin his relationship with Douglas Leese by going on a spending spree with his expense account. Flying on Concorde Jets and booking 5-star hotels was what Epstein did with other people’s money before he got hold on his own. This behaviour seems to be a pattern for Epstein. Befriending powerful people before ruining their relationship and moving on. This does strengthen the theory that Epstein was completely amoral, saw relationships as merely transactional, and was extremely charming.”Of Epstein – who fell out with his father over expenses that the British businessman thought were “not quite right” in 1984 to 1985 – Julian Leese – who himself last met with the since croaked paedophile in New York in 2013 but communicated with him up until days before his 10th August 2019 death – observed: “Given the personality that he was, I think he wanted to try and get as many contacts as possible. Jeffrey, as I told you before, loved to be mysterious, I did hear him talking about being a bounty hunter. I have to say we all took it with a pinch of salt… Because of Jeffrey’s mysterious [ways], today, if he were alive, he’d be rather pleased that there are so many press reports with these sorts of aspersions, but do I believe it, no.”Towers Financial Corporation paid for a lavish lifestyle for Hoffenberg that included a Long Island mansion as well as homes in Sutton Place, Manhattan and Florida. He had numerous chauffeur driven cars, two private planes, a yacht and a Fifth Avenue office. His board included a “bipartisan entourage” according to ‘The New York Times’ that included “Ben Barnes, a business ally of former Texas Gov. John Connally, and Thomas B. Evans Jr., a former co-chairman of the Republican National Committee. In Louisiana, regulators got calls on his behalf from attorney Victoria Reggie, daughter of a powerful state judge and future wife of Senator Edward M. Kennedy (pictured). A legal wrangle in California was handled by Mickey Kantor, now President Clinton’s trade representative.”As ‘The Steeple Times’ pointed out earlier this week, the Metropolitan Police’s failure to proceed with their investigations into the activities of Ghislaine Maxwell in the 1990s in London is telling, but so also is that they shuttered an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s London activities more recently. Why is this and what on earth could the since croaked paedophile have been upto on his visits to the capital to see to the Leese family in the 1980s and Prince Andrew, Kevin Spacey, Jes Staley (pictured) and others in the years beyond? The plot, as it always does with this sordid story, thickens, but one thing is for sure: The British authorities have certainly engaged in some kind of cover-up in order to protect the powerful and the privileged from the fall-out of the death of Jeffrey Epstein and the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell.

Now trending on Twitter as #CarrieGate, Shabi remarked of the latest scandal to hit the anything-but-morally-minded Johnson clan:
“Boris Johnson [is] using this as a distraction… By the way, since we’re looking at The Sunday Times, it is worth saying that The Times still hasn’t explained why it ‘disappeared’ the story yesterday about Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary.”
“He wanted to appoint his future wife, Carrie Symonds, to Chief of Staff. A £100,000 position and was dissuaded. Er, but that tells us something about his, you, you know…”
In spite of then being interrupted by Gosling, who inappropriately interjected to say “let’s just talk about what’s going on in the UK,” Shabi continued:

Examined further by The Guardian’s Rowena Mason and Jim Waterson and described as being “at first glance… the political scoop of the weekend,” that The Times story by “veteran lobby journalist” Simon Walters was “withdrawn, without explanation or clarification” is indeed both curious and telling. The same article was later rewritten by the MailOnline – and that also was deleted “without explanation or an editor’s note.”
Of it, an as usual unnamed “No. 10 source” suggested it was “untrue” and “sexist” and added: “This is a grubby, discredited story turned down by most reputable media outlets because it isn’t true. The facts speak for themselves.”
Responding, Walters told The Guardian: “I stand by the story. I went to all the relevant people over two days. Nobody offered me an on-the-record denial and Downing Street didn’t deny it off the record either.”
On Twitter, Tony Blair’s former director of communications Alastair Campbell best summed up this cover-up. With the bank declaring it had “exercised its discretion” to suspend share payouts related to his deferred bonus and long-term incentive plan “pending further developments in respect of the regulatory and legal proceedings related to the ongoing FCA and [Prudential Regulation Authority] investigation regarding Mr Staley,” the Boston born fat cat will now no doubt be regretting his decision to communicate with Epstein using codewords still to be deciphered including “snow white.”
Staley – who reportedly last met with Epstein along with his wife Debbie when they sailed to ‘Paedo Island’ Little St James in 2015 and whom also visited the sex mad monster whilst he was serving a sentence for soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2009 – continues to claim his innocence and is continuing with his plans to challenge the investigation’s findings.

Jeffrey Epstein and Bernie Madoff participated in two of the largest Ponzi schemes in history.
Some of the still missing £500 million stolen by Robert Maxwell likely passed through the hands of one or both of these monsters-not-men.
Ghislaine Maxwell, her father’s favourite child, undoubtedly hooked up with Epstein at the instruction of him for reasons financial; she clearly benefitted given she was able to offer up £22 million when seeking bail in spite of having been broke in the 1990s.
Jeffrey Epstein had known connections to the pension pot plunderer Robert Maxwell prior to his rather too convenient suicide in 1991.
Epstein was a guest of honour at a memorial lunch for ‘The Bouncing Czech’ in New York in 1992 and sat at the top table with widow Betty Maxwell.
Both Epstein and Madoff maintained homes in Palm Beach and “most definitely had business associations.”
The rather too convenient suicide of the Epstein and Maxwell associate Jean-Luc Brunel in Paris comes days after the rather too convenient murder-suicide of Madoff’s sister Sondra Madoff Wiener in Palm Beach by her husband.
“Buckingham Palace isn’t half as flash as this” enthused Giles Coren of London’s ritzy The Lanesborough hotel in the final episode of his and Monica Galetti’s BBC series Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby last night.
Continuing of a hotel “not so known as The Dorchester or The Ritz” and “extra discreet” when it comes to protecting the privacy of its very, very, very wealthy and often very, very, very secretive guests, Coren and Galetti waxed lyrical about a rather large guest book.
That book featured not only Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, but also entries from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Madonna and Stevie Wonder – the latter played the piano in the bar in December 1994. They rather conveniently forgot to bring up, however, two of the property’s more notorious and now deceased Barry Big Bollocks bigspenders, the late convicted criminal Ponzi schemer paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and the late Ponzi schemer ex-NASDAQ chairman Bernard L. Madoff.
Originally St George’s Hospital and subsequently converted into a 93-room – 47 of which are suites – hotel in 1991, The Lanesborough, Coren pointed out, was decorated “with no expense spared” by Alberto Pinto. Mr Pinto happened to also be the decorator of Jeffrey Epstein’s homes in New York, New Mexico and Paris and thus one can see why that the creepy taxi driver turned sex trafficker likely felt that The Lanesborough was his favoured “home-away-from-home” when in London.
With his non-sweating bestie Prince Andrew effectively a “neighbour” – if traversing the 39 of acres of ‘Buck House’s’ gardens was ever on his agenda – and Ghislaine Maxwell’s Kinnerton Street mews house just a block’s walk away, one could see why the location suited Epstein a treat. The now notorious leaked ‘Little Black Book’ credited as belonging to the since croaked paedophile, but actually mostly containing the connections of the now convicted mucky madam contains three numbers for the hotel and its then manager – one of which tellingly is listed as “private.”
Whilst staff at the palatial property that is The Lanesborough have not openly declared anything of Jeffrey Epstein’s preferences – the hotel keeps notes on all its guests and even has motion sensors in every room to help them predict their wants and needs – in January 2009, Insider reported on what the notoriously demanding Madoff liked to have when visiting.
Of him, after his arrest, his London office manager, Julia Fenwick, claimed “two of his vices are cigars and pork sausages, even though he is Jewish, he loves pork sausages” and told Insider: “There is still a trunk full of his clothes [at The Lanesborough]. They stored it for him and would clean and press the clothes and hang them in his suite in time for his arrival, as though he had a wardrobe there.”
Said to be a “terrible flirt” but not “really lecherous,” unlike the clearly sex crazed abuser Epstein, Madoff shared using the “F-word liberally” and being a “cheeky chappie” with his fellow New Yorker. Beyond that, there is much, much more that connects this pair of once uber wealthy men of money, mayhem and mystery.
Equally secretive in their business dealings and both known for having obsessive compulsive disorder tendencies about how their homes were run, both monsters-not-men maintained residences in Palm Beach, Florida and of them an investor formerly connected to Madoff just yesterday told us: “They most definitely frequented the same establishments and they most definitely had business associations.”
Like the world’s most infamous Ponzi schemer Madoff, Epstein, of course, was involved in another of “the largest Ponzi schemes in history,” that that occurred at the bill collection agency founded by Steven J. Hoffenberg, Towers Financial. Though he wasn’t himself jailed at the time, Epstein clearly benefited substantially from being participant in that particular nefarious scheme.
With suicide by hanging being a seeming connector in terms of it allegedly – though questioned by some – being Epstein’s choice of death and that also the choice of one of Madoff’s sons – though once again that has been questioned by some – here are two now dead deviant men who are known to have pandered to the desires of equally demanding money motivated women, Ghislaine Maxwell and Ruth Madoff (née Alpern).
The timing of the latest ‘suicides’ are undoubtedly curious and given that in the wake of Ghislaine Maxwell’s conviction in December, the judge in her trial was appointed to a higher court by President Biden as America seeks to protect America by protecting other associates of Epstein and Maxwell including Presidents Clinton and Trump, there is a certain stench of a bit of final “cleaning up” apparent.
With Prince Andrew having supposedly paid upto £12 million to a sex trafficked woman he supposedly never met, Jean-Luc Brunel dead and Jes Staley removed as CEO of Barclays – which curiously also turfed Maxwell out as a client – this “stain” that has for too long now upset royals, politicians and financiers is being put out to pasture.
Equally, with Bernie Madoff dead of “natural causes” and conveniently cremated in April last and his sister and children passed also, the embarrassment caused by the Wizard of Lies having duped the wallies of Wall Street will soon be a chapter closed if the powers that be get their way.
Today, it is time to remind these people that that will not be the case. In this, the Internet age, there are still people out there searching and as I have previously urged in these matters it always a case of one thing: “Follow the bloody money.”

Of such people, she observed: “All connected. Now Bernie Madoff’s sister, Sondra and her husband, are dead.Sondra Madoff Wiener and her husband Marvin Wiener’s ‘murder-suicide’ at this time seems a little oddly timed given though they lost their fortune when her brother’s scam came crashing down in 2008. This couple lived for 14 years with the shame and loss of their Palm Beach mansion, so the question must be in the wake of the death of Bernie Madoff in 2021 and the suicides of Jeffrey Epstein and Jean-Luc Brunel: “Why now?”
