  1. The aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy has illustrated how useless the local council is for doing anything apart from collect parking charges.
New York is well run with 5 large boroughs – it is time that London did the same and scrapped the non-performing 30 councils and the expensive hierarchy.

  3. I’m not sure where else to publish this, but I would just like to wish you Mathew, and your superb team at the Steeple Times, a very happy Christmas and a blissfully enjoyable 2019. Thank you for the amazing stories you have brought throughout 2018 and very much look forward to many more in the coming year.

  4. Your scathing comments regarding John Bercow are unfair and unwarranted. Attempting to referee unruly politicians some of whom are incompetent and ”should be fined for trespassing” [Coward] into a career intended for people who act in and for the public good. These trespassers have to be kept in line by John Bercow an unenviable task, John Bercow definitely deserves a peerage – more so than many who sit and sleep in the other place then get paid for doing so! The hierarchy of the commons also denied Gordon Brown a peerage another wrong decision. On the other hand a peerage does entail walking around in red robes with a dead animal as a hat on your head for certain ceremonies. ”Ridiculous”

    1. The comments are neither unfair nor unwarranted. ‘Without prejudice’ Bercow is an egotistic, bully whose power within the House of Commons is absolutely ridiculous and cause for great concern. It is obvious to all concerned his personal views seep into the issues very much in the public eye. He should have been replaced by now but he decided to stay on. For future no-one should wield such overwhelming power, over the runnings of our democracy.
Was it ‘fake news’ that the sticker in Bercow back window of his car said “Bollocks to Brexit”?

  5. I’d just like to say you have found yourself a new subscriber. The Steeple Times is a joy to read. I’ve not been interested in many online newspapers except for the Huffington Post.
I’m so grateful to James for introducing me to you, Matthew – albeit cyberly (I like to create words when needed!) and your refreshing and hilarious Steeple Times.
I loved the article about Ecclestump and in due course (time permitting) I’ll be exploring a whole lot more. If you ever need a high res photo-shopped image or satirical picture, I would be more than happy to email it to you free of charge. (In fact I have a few already you may be interested in … hee, hee) Keep up the “tell it like it is” nature of your fine newspaper!
