The Steeple Times asks private aviation entrepreneur Tom McLoughlin: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”
7th January 2013: When we published this interview on 16th August 2012, we were unaware of the real identity of Thomas McLoughlin. He told us he was an ambassador for American Express and all manner of other tales. Our readers responded in their droves and he has now been identified for what he truly is. His answers will remain here as illustration of his persona. The man is an obnoxious fake. If you spot him, contact Chelsea police station as they are very interested in his activities.
Update 13th February 2013: Thomas McLoughlin pleaded guilty to two charges on 28th January 2013 and is due to appear again at Isleworth Crown Court on 11th March 2013. Readers may wish to attend to witness his departure. It’s almost certain they’ll be waving him on his merry way to a Serco prison truck rather than to a Learjet or a Mercedes AMG.
Update 12th April 2013: After having his sentencing delayed for health reasons, Mr McLoughlin is back in court again this morning. We await news with baited breath.
Update 17th May 2013: Mr McLoughlin’s sentencing has been delayed until 12th June whilst the courts await medical evidence.
The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom.” What’s your guiding force?
My belief in God and my own God.
“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?
“Don’t get mad, get even.”
Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2012?
Tony Blair trying to resurrect his political career.
Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?
A golf course when I can’t get to one.
What might you swap all your wealth for?
To live out my life on a desert with a certain Italian actress.
Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank.” What’s your view on the banking crisis?
Everyone knows that the City has been full of crooks for years. Unfortunately most of them are American now.
What phrase or word do you most loathe?
“Actually.”
In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home.” What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?
Children’s causes here and around the world. Adults can take care of themselves.
The judge in “Law Abiding Citizen” states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?
I wish I could position my mobile phone to assassinate some political leaders in the world.
If you could fill a carriage on The Orient Express, who would be your fellow passengers?
All my ex-business enemies with one or two assassins. Several girlfriends would accompany. The ex-business enemies would be disposed of at the first stop.
If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?
My last meal would be Welsh lamb at No. 11 Cadogan Gardens.
What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?
Champagne at breakfast but nothing else before midday.
A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?
A martini with Stelios. I leased him his first five jets for EasyJet in 1994 and then he didn’t need me anymore.
Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?
The after-party at the New Year’s Day concert in Vienna that I go to annually.
Who is the most positive person you know?
My daughter, Alexandra, aged 14.
What’s your most guilty pleasure?
A bottle of white Burgundy and a punt on Betfair.
If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?
It would be a butterfly on the arse of a girlfriend.
If you were a car, what marquee would you be?
My car, a Mercedes CL63 AMG.
Cilla Black presented “Surprise, Surprise.” Tell us the most surprising thing about you.
As a private jet captain, I flew 3 plates of Nobu sushi to Baku, Azerbaijan. The sushi cost £2,000 and the flight £78,000.
What’s currently sitting on your mantelpiece?
Photographs of ex-girlfriends.

I am stunned. Perhaps he should knit all his ex girl friends into a giant sweater. It can be cold out there in this current (economic) climate.
I am confused by McLoughlin’s answer to the banking crisis question. When I met him in London, he told me he was an American Express Brand Ambassador. Here, he attacks the American banking system in his comment: “Everyone knows that the City has been full of crooks for years. Unfortunately most of them are American now.” Isn’t he part of the very system he is criticizing?
Hi Tom – Didn’t you used to own a car service company as well or am I confusing you with someone else? If so, what’s the website please?
Tom McLoughlin: You are a truly nasty individual. I have seen that you’ve attacked various individuals on here and I also found that there is a website dedicated to you at http://thomasmcloughlin.blogspot.co.uk I think The Steeple Times readers should all take a look before taking anything you say seriously.
While researching the shocking death of WPC FIONA BONE and her colleague, WPC Nicola Hughes, our team came upon this site. While we now understand Mrs Bone, that you have no connection with WPC Bone’s family, we felt we could not leave this site somewhat perplexed by the cruel and totally insensitive comments of Mr Mcloughlin, the featured subject of this site.
His answers on Movers-Shakers suggest he is a high-profile, accomplished man. Maybe a clue though to his insensitivity comes his attitude to charity “Adults can take care of themselves.”
We don’t believe the ‘BONE’ surname is ‘improbable’ and his strange comment was as upsetting to you as it was to WPC Bone’s family.
When we have finished with our present task, we might well look more closely into Mr McLoughlin. Something doesn’t seem quite right about the man.
Insight Team: Who or what are you researching for?
Mrs Bone regularly comments on The Steeples Times’s articles and is, I believe, quite genuine.
You truly have more front than Brighton. Mrs Bone shows considerable restraint by merely calling you “a truly nasty individual”.
Thank you for your comments. My magazine is prospering and will not be closing down. Unfortunately you seem to have started rows with a lot of people here and heat and kitchens are what come to mind. I have no personal problem with you but if you will make the kind of statements you have about people, of whom several are friends, you will attract such replies as has just been received from Kevin Scott. I will, of course, give you the right to reply.
Well, well, well.. .
As Richard Littlejohn might have said “You couldn¹t make it up”. Trouble is, the egregious Thomas Joseph McLoughlin did and in scads.
McLoughlin epitomises Scott¹s maxim: “Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive!”
This evil crook¹s only line of defence of his lies is to lash-out and accuse his victims and detractors of lying themselves (he usually supplements these with criminally threatening SMS messages to his
target¹s mobiles ¬as my own archives can show.)
He was accurate in one regard though. In his last response he states: “Some of the statements here are riddled with mistruths and inaccuracy”(!) What gall. What effrontery. I believe the sole purveyor of those
lies has been McLoughlin himself.
Let¹s examine a few from his Walter Mitty-like responses on his ‘Movers & Shakers’ page:
He claimed: {Stelios}. “I leased him his first five jets for EasyJet in1994 and then he didn¹t need me anymore.”
The reality: easyjet didn¹t start flying until 1995 (not 1994) with two (not five) aircraft. These were two Boeing 737-200 aircraft wet-leased from British World Airlines. The next aircraft it acquired in 1996 (and
was wholly owned) was another Boeing 737.
He claimed: “As a private jet captain, I flew 3 plates of Nobu sushi to Baku, Azerbaijan. The sushi cost £2,000 and the flight £78,000.”
The reality: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) flight crew licensing register have no record of a Thomas Joseph McLoughlin ever holding a Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL) or an Airline Transport Pilots Licence
(ATPL) (Any prowess at Microsofts Flight
Simulator program doesn¹t count in the real world).
He claimed: “he was an American Express Brand Ambassador”.
The reality: Allegedly concerns have been raised over his processing of Amex Card payments taken for air charters. I can confirm that he is currently being investigated by the Security Department of American
Express. Hardly ‘ambassadorial’ behaviour.
He claimed: (In response to the question “you used to own a car service company?”) “correct was Whites and we reached almost a 10M turnover before the business was gobbled by Addison Lee.”
The reality: This came as a surprise to John Griffin the founder of Addison Lee. They have made five acquisitions in recent years including, most recently, Lewis Day. But seem to have had such a voracious appetite that they must have gobbled WHITES (with its ‘£10 million turnover’) without trace ¬ and not a hint of indigestion.
“I think you are confusing me with someone else.” He avers in replying to Mrs Bone¹s post. Oh no she hasn¹t, Thomas James McLoughlin. As he nwell knows, all that is contained on
http://thomasmcloughlin.blogspot.co.uk describes with clinical accuracy his fraudulent activity.
Suffice to say I rue the day I first met and allowed myself to be hoodwinked by this awful man. And it saddens me that people whom I innocently encouraged to do business with him, subsequently found that he defrauded them and did not pay their legitimate bills.
“You couldn¹t make it up”.
Glenmore Trenear-Harvey
PS I am advised that a warrant has been issued for McLoughlin¹s arrest. Any information concerning his whereabouts (and any other allegations
of criminal behaviour) should be direted to the Chelsea Safer Neighbourhoods team care of:
Chief Superintendent Jason Gwillim
Metropolitan Police
Chelsea Police Station
2 Lucan Place
Chelsea
SW3 3PB
I read this and was astonished. Chris Powell is right about this misogynist. We live in the 21st century, not ancient Rome and the way his hands are wandering over that waitress sum up his view of the role of women. McLoughlin makes out he’s done extremely well in his life but that suit tells me otherwise. Where did he get it? Next? I am very surprised that a publication such as this feature a traveling salesman who claims to work for AMEX (someone should check in with them) alongside the likes of real achievers such as Frankie Dettori, Gina Miller, Rex Leyland, Lord Alton, James Dove, Roberto Marziota and Peter Burrell. Mr McLoughlin in his “final word” comment (sorry, I’ve just taken that away) states that he’s the one who has “always worked and produced something unlike the lazy Chelsea set who seem to feed off.” Not only does that sentence show his lack of education, it’s total nonsense. McLoughlin should head off to his palatial (imaginary) home in Vienna in his Merc (imaginary) and stay there. Perhaps he could fly there instead in his jet (imaginary) and look at the tattoo on the “arse of a girlfriend” (imaginary) whilst sipping his martini with his dear friend Stelios (who probably has never heard of him).
My attention has been drawn to this item and I have found some of the earlier comments that have been deleted via a thorough Google search. I take exception to being called a ‘red faced drunk’ by a man who owes me over £1,000 for work done on his behalf in good faith two years ago and which I have long given up on recovering as the man plainly doesn’t have a pot to piss in. I take greater exception to my son, who also did so much to help him, being called ‘stupid’. He has an excellent degree from a fine university and clearly has more education and manners than this dreadful man.
I look forward to being sued by him and Google for whatever wrongdoings I may have done. But I look forward even more to his next comment which is quite likely to expose his temper and belligerence once more.
Well I suppose his daughter has to be positive really.
I read many of your other interviews and enjoyed them hugely. I did not enjoy this one. Why did you bother with this man? His cheap suit and the way he is “grabbing” (in gypsy terminology) that poor waitress say all that needs to be said. Her face is the giveaway. The poor lady looks as terrified as if she were in the company of Jimmy Savile. Please stick to interviewing people who’ve really achieved such as Frankie Dettori, Gina Miller and Sophie Michell.
I see Mr McLoughlin has gone quiet. How surprising. Not. The man truly has been exposed.
Chaim Paddaman says:
December 17, 2012 at 3:12 pm
Tom Mcloughlin is a born showman, he must negotiate a bookdeal. It is destined to be a best seller. He is a colourful and exciting character. However I do not condone the transgression of statutory laws, and I am not suggesting that crime pays. So don’t get me wrong.
**********************************************
Mr Paddaman I was amazed at and annoyed by your enthusiasm for Tom McLoughlin.
How could you, an articulate jewish writer and comedian be taken in by that serial fraudster, liar and cheat? (And anti-semitic to boot).
But, of course, I realised, that is exactly what happened to me some years ago when I first met him. My judgement of people, which is usually good, let me down. I, too, was conned by this skilled trickster.
I provided him with friendship, research work, writing-input and, sadly, introductions to my friends who took my friendship with McLoughlin as an endorsement of his bona fides and were in turn cheated.
They like me were never paid for our time, input, equipment and work.
You have a right to your opinion, but I doubt that his victims would share your assessment of this crook; that “He is a colourful and exciting character.”
Just look at his record of lies. Starting with his ludicrous answers to Matthew Steeples in the ‘Movers & Shakers’ interview.
His convictions for fraud and his bankruptcy attest to the way he has ripped-off trusting, decent people.
See the report of the leading City law firm, Rosenblatt Solicitors, who describe him as a ‘serial evictee’ who caused three landlords to incur substantial losses and costs of up to £39,000 each. http://thomasmcloughlin.blogspot.co.uk/
You, me and others are not the only gullible patsies though. The distiguished legal firm Denton Wilde Sapte are also owed substantial sums following an unsubstantiated legal claim by McLoughlin against GLG Partners. And his upcoming Crown Court appearance will surely result in further convictions and his probable return to prison ( leaving numerous out-of-pocket victims in his wake).
There is no doubt that he a skilful and plausible liar and cheat. Yet another reaosn not to trust one word of his postings on this site. He is known to too many readers of STEEPLE TIMES and his aggressive, vindictive, snarling insults and lies in his reponses to their comments are the only ‘colourful’ thing about him.
Yoiu almost got it right: “Tom Mcloughlin is a born CONman”.
Mazel tov. Chanuka Sameach.
Glenmore Trenear-Harvey is a international respected author and broadcaster. He is a specialist in his field. He is a credit to the United Kingdom, he has served his country well. My comments regarding Mcloughlin were made in a tongue in cheek manner. It was not my intentions to upset Glenmore. I have the greatest of respect for Glenmore. I know what Mcloughlin is all about, I am not really a naive fool.
What McLoughlin does and says is not amusing.
Now he says that his recent posts have been made by an ‘imposter’. That did make me smile. Of course they have. ALL of his posts have been made by the greatest imposter of them all – McLoughlin himself!
You’ll remember when Mrs Bone exposed the swindler’s blog http://thomasmcloughlin.blogspot.co.uk Saying “I think The Steeple Times readers should all take a look before taking anything you say seriously.”
McLoughlin responded “I think you are confusing me with someone else”. Another imposter maybe?
When the Old Bill turn up with a warrant for him, does he say “Sorry guv, you’ve got the wrong man”.
And could the Judge open his trial next month by asking “Will the REAL Thomas Joseph McLoughlin please stand up .. . . . . . . . . . .”?
I think that cars today are almost the exact equivalent of the great Gothic cathedrals; I mean the supreme creation of an era, conceived with passion by unknown artists, and consumed in image if not in usage by a whole population which appropriates them as a purely magical object, I hope that will sort out the problem, without the noise!!
I’ve been told that a Thomas J. McLoughlin is scheduled to be at the Crown Court at Isleworth on 28th January.
Given the extensive involvement this McLoughlin has had with the English legal system might we learn (given his penchant for porkies) that he is presiding as a judge? Or, because of his frequent postings – as a Court Reporter? Or grandly, as an ‘Ambassador’? Surely not as a defendant in a fraud case? Or maybe, yet again, a case of ‘mistaken identity’?
Like scores of others, I can’t wait to see what he has to say on his blog http://thomasmcloughlin.blogspot.co.uk/
Tom McLoughlin is due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court for a ‘Plea and Case Management Hearing’ tomorrow 28 January at 10.15. This will only last 15 minutes. If he pleads guilty a date for sentencing will be set, if pleads not guilty a date for the trial will be set. A number of his victims will be in attendance
I read in that popular blog http://thomasmcloughlin.blogspot.co.uk/ that today Tom McLoughlin pleaded guilty to two out of four counts and that he will be appearing in court again at Isleworth on 11 March 2013.
T
he convict, Tom McLoughlin appeared at the Crown Court in Isleworth this morning on new charges. The deceitful, fraudster and cheat pleaded “guilty” to two of the charges and ‘not guilty’ to two other charges. The bullying braggart will now go to trial on 11 March.
http://thomasmcloughlin.blogspot.co.uk/
The 11th March will be a great day for a glass of champagne then. What a naughty man.
Another Walter Mitty, but one sheathed in barbed wire.
Well said Chris. He has a vicious tongue and it won’t help in when he’s in the clink.
So on it goes with the blatant, in your face brazen carry on of this vile, disgusting, liar and a cheat of the human race! This is the best one yet! He continues the lie of being a pilot on National TV, never in a million years! He wouldn’t know his altimeter from his air speed indicator.
See this link below to BBC iPlayer where he appears on a recent episode of Bargain Hunt but hurry, it’s only available until the 8th, just two more days!
PS. BBC, you should be more thorough of your research on whom you allow on you shows.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b01qg8ck/
In the programmeTom Mcloughlin, in his own words, claims to be “A high-flying, low-lying, pilot of a private jet, for a private family”. His partner of the last two years – Roberta from Rome is a “beauty consultant”. No doubt the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will be interested in a ‘pilot’ who, according to their records, holds no pilot’s flying licence. No PPL, CPL or ALTP. It would be a major criminal offence to fly an aircraft without one. But he won’t be convicted as he flies for WALTERMITTYAIR!
I first came across this filthy character in the 1980´s when he lived in High Wycombe – he was a flash individual then, always buying magnums of champagne at the races and trying to impress when in reality he didnt have a pot to piss in. He went to jail then for some fraud, and pretended to his family that he was working in Russia!
He worked at the time for a company called PST, and he got sacked. This man is a pathalogical liar and a compulsive gambler. Every penny he earns goes to the bookies. i am a bookie and he still owes me money for bets he placed over 20 years ago!
I FULLY AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENTS. I KNOW HIM VERY WELL… HE WAS MY BOSS AT TIMEX !
Rather sadly the dreadful fellow will shortly be out of prison and no doubt up to his usual tricks again. Keep your eyes open and your wallets close to you after Christmas.
Sadly he already is. A reader spotted him in the newsagent on Fulham Road.
Can anybody direct me to the blog as mentioned above. It seems to be inaccessible via the link. Seems Mr M is up to his old tricks once again!
It has been removed and Mr McLoughlin’s sentencing has been postponed again because of supposed “health issues”.
Is there anyway to resurrect it at all? Was he supposed to be in court last Friday?? On what charges?
Thanks
I have no knowledge of who ran that blog so could not suggest who you should contact about it. He was indeed meant to be in court last Friday. Sentencing is now postponed until 12 June while the courts await medical evidence.
Thakyou for your prompt response – shall investigate further and await his sentencing in June.
In fact, the new court date I understand is to be Friday 14th June. That information I believe that has come direct from the court itself.
TM needs to be stopped in his tracks for everything he has done in the past and as said here by Ian, continues in the form of “health issues” to keep himself out of court. I also agree that what he is to be sentenced for is small compared to all that he has done in the past but hopefully however, he is just delaying the inevitable and that the courts can and do see through all of this.
He is a weak, pathetic and vile person proven by what I learned about when he can’t resist a drunken phone call to a 70 plus year old family member of his (which I am not), to threaten that and other family members of all sorts using disgusting language and name calling against them.
He will continue to blight people (medical profession included seemingly) for the rest of his days until they too begin to realise and understand that he his nothing more than a serial fraud and con-man. For when things go wrong, he will always blow a smoke screen by loud verbal and apparent reasoning, to move the light off his own self. It’s how he operates.
The website relating to the past exploits of TJM was closed down by Google. Possibly his lawyer had something to do with this as it could have prejudiced his trial. The charges are for acting as a director whilst disqualified; fairly small considering his other misdemeanors. Well known for fabricating stories about his qualifications and financial investments, it appears that he is now doing the same over his ‘health issues’. You would hope that the court would see through this and send him to the slammer forthwith.
More evidence of his skulduggery!
I have just been speaking to my friends at a couple of major bookmakers and betting platforms in London and McLoughlin deposited money using other peoples credit cards – bet the money – lost, and ran up huge bills with the bookamkrs. Seems he hasn´t learnt his lesson after 20 years – what a scumbag
Where is he now as this sort of chap should be behind bars!!
Thank you for the comment. McLoughlin was arrested and cautioned for harassing me last month. He has been told not to contact me in person or via email or other means. He has thankfully thus far kept well clear of me.
Did you have dealings with him? At one point he “claimed” to own a chauffeuring business. He “allegedly” sold it to Addison Lee.
I can tell you that he headed a chauffeur company but certainly never owned it. The money was fronted by a well known ‘dodgy’ timeshare firm based in Spain. When he (Tom) was ejected from the chauffeur firm for wrong doings, it continued to operate for a short time before it went into administration and was broken up by them into nothing. Addison Lee…I don’t think so!!
By the way, he is also cautioned by the police not to contact me by any means.
Despicable person.
Jacques Rais, me too! Where were you based?
Hi… I was based in Ealing. Now I’m in Switzerland.
I seem to remember a Jacques from Saffron Hill, roughly how old are you?
Yes I did work at SSIH UK Ltd (Saffron Hill)… just reached 70. What about you, what was your job and what are you doing now in Switzerland?
Has he supported the Find Madeleine campaign? If he has a heart and a decent bone in his body, he will put right his past wrongs and support dear Gerry and Kate McCann in their search for their beloved Madeleine. If you read this Mr McLoughlin, do the right thing for once and volunteer.
Thomas McLoughlin: Where is he now? SCUM.
