Graham Seed: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

20 questions with Graham Seed, best known for having played Nigel Pargetter in BBC Radio 4’s ‘The Archers’

The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?

My wife, of course.

“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?

“Success and failure are irrelevant. Do what makes you happy and do it a little better everyday… And don’t forget to breathe”.

Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2013?

‘Walking’ in cricket apparently.

Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?

Running and optimism.

What might you swap all your wealth for?

To have another crack at getting that banner safely down from the roof of Lower Loxley.

Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank”. What’s your view on the banking crisis?

The crisis seems to be ours rather than the banks. Sod’s law.

What phrase or word do you most loathe?

“If you don’t mind me saying”.

In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home”. What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?

The Actors Benevolent Fund.

The judge in Law Abiding Citizen states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?

I love ‘em except when they go off in the audience during a performance and we actors have to cope with the consequences.

If you could fill a carriage on The Orient Express, who would be your fellow passengers?

Oh dream on… Ghosts of my heroes. No politicians for sure. David Frost. Sportsmen and actors. And my wife to share the memories with after they leave the table.

If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?

Would one be in the mood for food? A dozen oysters and champagne would suffice. Where, wouldn’t matter.

What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?

6pm unless out to lunch, on holiday or a Buck’s Fizz to accompany smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on Christmas Day.

A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?

Builder’s tea. One sugar please.

Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?

I have always rather dreaded parties. It’s good to get the invitation to get the invitation or to send them, but aren’t they lovely when they are over?

Who is the most positive person you know?

My wife.

What’s your most guilty pleasure?

Posh crisps.

If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?

Umm… A tattoo could not sum me up.

If you were a car, what marque would you be?

A Mercedes-Benz SLK or a Suzuki Jimmy.

Cilla Black presented Surprise, Surprise. Tell us the most surprising thing about you.

I’m a bit of a numpty when it comes to computers.

What’s currently sitting on your mantelpiece?

Invitations to my nephew’s wedding and a lunch at RADA, my MCC card and the Invalids CC fixture list.
