The Steeple Times’ horse racing tips with an analysis of the top tipsters and their selections at Newmarket and Market Rasen also
Today, aside from racing at Haydock cancelled due to it turning it into a bit of a bog, enthusiasts will be focused on racing at Newmarket.
Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes, Newmarket, 3pm
The much favoured horse here is Siskin at 4/1 from 9/2 earlier. Fancied by ITV Racing, Sporting Life, the Guardian and the Mail also, of him the Guardian’s Chris Cook remarks: “From the Ger Lyons stable that won the Cheveley Park on this card some years ago, he was brave to win the Phoenix on unsuitably soft ground but should be more comfortable on this surface.”
The Racing Post have a slightly different analysis and add: “Unbeaten in four starts in Ireland (6f) on a range of ground; had less than a length to spare over Monarch Of Egypt in Group 1 Phoenix at the Curragh latest but soft ground may have been slower than is ideal for him; smart, tough colt who should give it another bold go.”
Bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap, Newmarket, 3.40pm
The favoured horse for the Guardian’s Chris Cook is the Dettori–Gosden combination Lord North at 6/1. He refers to the horse as “progressive” and “well treated” whilst the Mail’s ‘Gimrack’ and Sporting Life rather like him too.
The Racing Post, however, are going with Hamilton-Fahey and Another Touch at 22/1 as their ‘Dark Horse’ of the day. For the paper, Rob Sutton remarks: “This Richard Fahey-trained runner could be well handicapped to go well in this big handicap. Ran at Ayr last Saturday and although he didn’t make the frame, it was still a promising run. Interesting back in a big field.”

At Market Rasen a widely favoured option in the 4pm is Earlofthecotswolds at 5/1 from 9/2 earlier. Trained by one of the Twiston-Davies family, Nigel, and ridden by another, Sam, the horse is backed by Radio 4, the Guardian and The Telegraph.
