As the Conservative Party lurches to become “The Brexit Party (Rebadged)” we salute the twenty-one decent MPs who stood up to Boris Johnson
Moderate Conservatism died last night when Boris Johnson childishly chucked out twenty-one MPs who did the right thing and rebelled against the runaway lunacy he was trying to impose on Parliament.
The twenty-one, who include former chancellors and a number of other senior figures, are to be saluted. They are:
Guto Bebb
Richard Benyon
Steve Brine
Alistair Burt
Greg Clark
Ken Clarke
David Gauke
Justine Greening
Dominic Grieve
Sam Gyimah
Philip Hammond
Stephen Hammond
Richard Harrington
Margot James
Sir Oliver Letwin
Anne Milton
Caroline Nokes
Antoinette Sandbach
Sir Nicholas Soames
Rory Stewart
Edward Vaizey
For them, the father of the house, Ken Clarke, spoke the most sense. He explained:
“I am a Conservative, of course I am … But this leader, I don’t recognise this. It’s the Brexit party, rebadged… The party has] been taken over by rather a knockabout sort of character [Dominic Cummings, Boris Johnson’s de facto chief of staff] who’s got this bizarre crash-it-through philosophy … [And a] cabinet which is the most right-wing cabinet any Conservative party has ever produced. They’re not in control of events. The prime minister comes and talks total rubbish to us, and is planning to hold a quick election and get out, blaming parliament and Europe for the shambles.”
It is now time these decent men and women join with the Liberal Democrats, the moderate wing of the Labour Party, The Independent Group for Change and others. Together they can do what the country most urgently needs – Stop Brexit.

I join in the salute to these courageous MPs. Bravo.
I just don’t understand how it has come to this. It makes no difference whether you voted to leave or stay, the people voted to leave, it was a democratic vote. You just can’t keep moving the goal posts until you get the goal you want. I wanted to stay, but that’s now irrelevant, I’m saying let democracy rule and leave already, get on with it.
