‘Middle-class homeless Heathrow couple’s’ views on housing others exposed
Yesterday, we reported on the case of Alan Lane and Katrina Smith, a couple who claim to have been living as “homeless” people at Heathrow Airport. Today, we share their views on housing others.
In a letter, sent from their then address, ‘The Palm House’ in Poole, Dorset, in 2003, Mr Lane and Miss Smith made reference to a planning application in their neighbourhood. Objecting to the proposed construction of a block of flats, these Nimbies claimed that they did not want see “the nature of [their] neighbourhood” changed and went as far as to state that they would not welcome “another ‘flatsland’”. Given this duo now complain that they find it impossible to find suitable housing despite Mr Lane earning £1,400 per month, perhaps he might now revise his opinions.
Adapting the old adage about glasshouses, Alan Lane and Katrina Smith may now have learnt that people in ‘Palm Houses’ shouldn’t throw stones.

I think it is fair enough for people to try to protect the amenity and character of their neighbourhoods.
A pair of con artists if I saw ?!
A deliciously large portion of fresh karma, served piping hot.
…And your point is?
People who give their houses a name when said property has a number (and the name therefore is not part of the official Royal Mail address) always have ideas above their station, as do people who insist they live in “Lower Parkstone”, which (again) is also not an official addresss. Poole is Poole. I live there too. Ironically, they also lived in a flat in Poole.
Look where their aversion to flats got them. Had they moved into a small flat years ago they wouldn’t be where they are now.
I see from the Gofundme page http://www.gofundme.com/lt0bfw, that they have started to give out refunds. Meanwhile the Daily Mail is removing lots of comments as they did last Sunday morning. After there being many hundred comments posted in the Daily Mail bySaturday evening on Sunday morning at about 10am there were none! When I added my comment to ask the DM the reason for this it was not printed. An hour later on Sunday there were 35 comments. What on earth is the Daily Mail doing and why?
Bob Ogle (I’m with her above) says
We forgot to mention. In this weird possible scam, all is subjective, hearsay or assumed. There is however just one FACT. All the photos taken at LHR were “Murray Sanders Daily Mail”. The one and only photo taken “some time previously” it seems at a Drinks Party was also printed, you’ve guessed, “Murray Sanders Daily Mail”.
Amazing coincidence, or dare I suggest that the photos at LHR were “by appointment”
