Grenfell Tower residents let down by RBK&C whilst properties rented for them stand empty in Chelsea also
This morning The Mirror’s James O’Brien reported on how former residents of the Grenfell Tower will likely be “decanted” to make way to “replace [their] homes with more expensive properties.”
He is entirely right to highlight this scandalous likely course of action by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea but equally shocking is that one reader of The Steeple Times – who wishes to remain anonymous – contacted us to inform us that the very same council rented a four bedroom ex-local authority she owns off Chelsea’s Kings Road to house victims of the tragedy but have left it empty since June.
The landlady concerned commented: “The council informed me they wished to rent the flat I own for a family they wished to rehouse and have paid me full market rental. Nobody has moved in. It is a disgrace that they are wasting money paying for a perfectly good flat and I cannot understand why nobody has taken up residence.”
Just can’t believe that is still standing.
