Yet to be officially announced, we’ve discovered that the former library that was Bistro K at 117 – 119 Old Brompton Road, SW7 is to be the second venue for a Yashin. Co-founded by Yasuhiro Mineno and Shinya Ikeda, this traditional Edo-style sushi restaurant has already proven popular in Argyll Road, W8, but will they beat the curse that has seen off not only Bistro K, but also L’Ambassade de L’Ile and Lundums before them?
JUST REDUCE IT.
Not much of an Entourage
The Entourage Café in Draycott Avene – which was originally to have somewhat bizarrely been named Affaire – has to be one of the most short-lived restaurants ever in SW3. No sooner was this Mediterranean shisha “lounge” (a word we loathe) opened, then it was closed. Of the future of the former site of Le Suqet, nothing is yet known. A tip to whoever buys it: Do something about the drains.
Hustling houses
“Art hustler” Kenny Schachter’s vast 10,155 square foot mansion, Shandon House, on Tregunter Road in The Boltons is for sale through Russell Simpson for £28 million. In June, Schachter, who paid £3.5 million for the property in 1998, joked on Twitter: “I was robbed today at gunpoint and what a harrowing experience. Made worse by the fact by it was my own lawyer”. He may take the same view when the estate agents’ fee note comes through his letterbox.
A burger for a model
After their mammoth success in Farringdon, Mayfair, Smithfield and Soho, it was predictable that Burger & Lobster would open in a department store. From October, the two choice, no reservation restaurant will be serving burger or lobster for £20 on the Fifth Floor of Harvey Nichols. The fashionistas might pass on the chips and equally, they might lose yet more weight standing in the inevitable queue.
