The Tout’s tips for Wednesday’s racing at Goodwood
We’ve arrived at the mid summer festival to beat all others at Goodwood but without the heatwave and some of the ingredients that give Goodwood the pseudonym “Glorious”. Fresh from our second Open success in a row The Tout feels that all is well in the world but The Sussex Stakes today is even harder to sort out than Muirfield and the 150 odd competitors.
There are only three possible winners of the race and The Tout feels that having looked at them all the only way to go is, according to the individual pocket size, for the 1-2-3 in correct order.
All three of the main contenders have immaculate form but Dawn Approach just cannot keep getting away with his hard pulling, energy wasting antics and thus we go for the Ascot form reversal with Toronado to win from Declaration of War and Dawn Approach in third.
Richard Hannon remains in great form and Toronado has only run one questionable race in his life whilst Aiden O’Brien the trainer of Declaration of War is in questionable form. This is the logic behind these selections and for this reason on the undulating and tough track on the Downs there is no place for the hard pulling Dawn Approach.
A bold call but as Ben Goldsmith said very eloquently this week it is only The Turtle that dares to stick out it’s neck. Who Dares, Wins.
The Tout.

it is good to see a colt like this, and not sired by Galileo, for a change
