J.K. Rowling has no need to whinge about her pseudonym being revealed

J.K. Rowling made a fortune writing her Harry Potter series. Now that she’s been revealed as the author of a crime mystery, The Cuckoo’s Calling, using the nom de plume of Robert Galbraith, she’s whingeing.

Rowling is said to be “angry” and “disappointed” that one of her solicitors’ employees, Chris Gossage, shared the information with a lady named Judith Callegari whom then tweeted it. We don’t think she’s got any need to be cross. Sales of the book have soared as a result and publishers Little, Brown have issued a reprint.

If Rowling, who has also stated that she continues to writing the series using the same pseudonym, truly didn’t want her identity to be unmasked, she shouldn’t have told anyone in the first place.

  1. Matthew, to be fair, J.K. Rowling’s solicitors as well as the publishers do have to know for a simple reason: J.K. Rowling has to be paid. A contract had to be drawn up and royalty checks paid. It really is quite a serious breech of professional etiquette for client confidentiality to be breached in such a way.
Having said all of that, I suspect that the publishing company was desperate for a leak to occur as they knew it would lead to a huge increase in sales.

  2. I could not agree more….Russells breached client confidence in a gross and highly damaging way.
“Matthew, it is naive to state this If Rowling, who has also stated that she continues to writing the series using the same pseudonym, truly didn’t want her identity to be unmasked, she shouldn’t have told anyone in the first place.”
How on earth do you expect her lawyers to have drwan up the contract without knowing her identity?
I would be livid knowing that some idiot partner breached a client confidence in this way. Your attack of Rowlings is quite unfair and unjustified….and I don’t even read her stuff.

  3. “We don’t think she’s got any need to be cross.” Wit and Wisdom? This statement contains neither. Of course she should be right pissed, like she needs the money, wasn’t about money, was about freedom that gossip girl Judith stole from her in an effort to be cool or feel important.
