Two new luxury cars hit the roads: ‘The Steeple Times’ takes a look at the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class and the Land Rover Range Rover Holland & Holland
Those with the budget for a luxury car now have two new choices. The first comes in the form of the unexpected return of Jeremy Clarkson’s least favourite car, the Maybach, whilst the second is a vastly impressive interpretation of the Range Rover by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division and Holland & Holland.
The Steeple Times was amongst the first to announce the Holland & Holland Range Rover in 2013 and though only 120 will be made, we reckon it will sell like hotcakes despite its £180,000 price tag. Naturally, this fine long wheelbase vehicle comes with a leather-trimmed aluminium loadspace gun cabinet but other features include a redesigned centre console with electrically deployable walnut tables, USB charging sockets and enhanced stowage; unique Holland & Holland Green paintwork and sustainably sourced French walnut veneer throughout the interior.
Mercedes-Benz, meanwhile, have decided to return to the territory that they abandoned after losing $1 billion on their last reinvention of the once iconic Maybach brand. Next week, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, their latest take on “super luxury” will be unveiled in the form of what they somewhat confusingly call a “Mercedes-Maybach S-Class”. Purchasers will basically get “an S-Class that’s had the luxury ramped up even futher”.
In a release, Mercedes-Benz stated that the car will be “distinguished by extra spaciousness, special seats and lavishly designed, prestigious interiors offering extensive scope for individualisation”. Pictures of the exterior of the vehicle have yet to be revealed officially but a taster of what is to come was posted on the company’s Twitter page on Tuesday whilst we also share a “spy photo’ of the car from the website AutoWeek.com.
