£46.4 million Woodside estate remains for sale despite £10.1 million price cut
Woodside is one of the wealthiest small towns in America and with the sale of the 91.94-acre Flood Estate, comes the opportunity to own one of its most significant and most expensive properties.
For sale at the extraordinary price of £46.4 million ($69.8 million) – reduced from an initial asking price of £56.5 million ($85 million) in 2012 – and simply described as 331 Greer Road, this is undoubtedly one of the largest parcels of land in the entire area.
Built for James Flood, the grandson of the “Bonanza King” James Clair Flood – who discovered by the largest silver mine in history in Virginia, Nevada – in 1946, the current centerpiece of the estate is a 9,000 square foot “Colonial Revival style” main house with 9 bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms and a garden designed by Thomas Church.
In addition there’s also a vineyard, a 2-bedroomed gatehouse, a 3-bedroomed caretaker’s cottage and a number of barns and outbuildings.
Twenty-four of the Forbes list of richest Americans live in the vicinity and with the possibility of constructing a far grander residence on the site, it is highly likely that one of them will eventually put in a bid.
331 Greer Road is for sale on behalf of the Flood family through the San Francisco office of Sotheby’s.

fantastic touch of irony with the original post box
£50m for a building site. Bloody expensive!
Somehow it would have made a great setting for an episode of Colombo with Stewart Granger as the villain; the veranda shortcut between bedrooms being a big part of the plot………and the lake the murder scene ……..
When the Floods lived here I was a guest at the house as a teenager. 50 years ago. It was considered an aggreable but erzsatz “colonial” house on unimproved land. A nice, unpretentious house for a socially elite family.
Woodside is served by next door Silicon Valley. The young rich, that are the only ones buying now, are urban creatures, and want to live in San Francisco. The sun has set on rural properties, even ones that have the prestige of Woodside. The original asking price of 85 million dollars is ludicrous.
Tear it down. What a dump.
Have these people supported the Find Madeleine campaign? I demand that Mr Flood uses some of his vast resources to help poor dear Gerry and Kate McCann in their campaign to find their beloved daughter Madeleine.
May I politely ask you, Ms. Trott, why you feel entitled to DEMAND money from anyone? In this case it is doubly bewildering, because Mr. Flood id dead.
He’s still alive from what I’ve read elsewhere.
Miss Trott……….
My advice to you would be to set up a Tontine with the ghastly Mc Canns and their vast wonky fortune
A proper tearer downer.
