American diet guru Jenny Craig’s ocean side residence remains on the market for £25.9 million after one year for sale – it is anything but a symbol of moderation
Diet queen Jenny Craig once remarked that she’s “all about moderation” but her Del Mar, San Diego County, California home is far from such. It has been for sale for nearly a year at the lofty price of $39.5 million (£25.9 million).
Built in 1980 and purchased by Jenny and Sid Craig for $3.25 million in 1986 (the equivalent of $7 million or £4.6 million today) 8,925 square foot 2936 Ocean Front is a vast beach front residence on a small spit of sand across the river from the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. It is boldly being marketed by selling agents Sotheby’s International Realty as “one of the most exclusive properties in San Diego and quite possibly the world”.
On a plot of 0.73 acres and having 81 foot of direct sand frontage, the house includes 5 bedroom suites, 6.5 bathrooms, 3 kitchens, a large media room, guest quarters, a swimming pool, an exercise room, a 4-car garage and parking for 20 additional vehicles. Beyond that, what makes it special is an oversized patio that goes directly onto a sand beach that is considered “one of the best swimming beaches in the world”.
82-year old Craig also owns property in Santa Fe and is an enthusiastic supporter of thoroughbred racing. She has thus far failed to lose the weight of 2936 Ocean Front but given that she sold Jenny Craig, Inc. to Nestlé for $600 million (the equivalent of $704 million or £460 million today) in 2006, she’s almost certainly in no hurry to offload off this particular beached whale of a property.
