Website sharing food hygiene ratings in UK restaurants surprisingly reveals that venues such as chichi Montpeliano in Knightsbridge and chain diner Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Haverstock Hill are amongst the worst in London
One would expect London’s top restaurants and centrally controlled chains with sophisticated management structures to have kitchens with equally high standards. Surprisingly, a new website reveals anything but and features the Chelsea Quarter Café in Chelsea’s Kings Road, the Haverstock Hill branch of Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Montpeliano in Montpelier Street, Knightsbridge as amongst the worst.
Whilst neighbourhood favourites including La Brasserie in Brompton Road, SW3, Romulo Café in Kensington High Street, W8 and Bellamy’s in Bruton Place, W1 all are commended at 5/5 as “very good”, trendy spots such as Ducksoup and The Red Fort in Dean Street, W1 are both listed as being in need of “major improvement” at just 2/5. Worse still, OmgOmg.co.uk list the popular Santorini Taverna in Moscow Road, W2 and the busy Tarboush II in Edgware Road, W2 at ratings of 0/5. Described as places where “urgent improvement [is] necessary”, these are most definitely restaurants to avoid at all costs.

I’d rather eat at MacDonald’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can only imagine how many rats there are in London restaurants!!!!!!!!!!! Dirty, dirty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAKE BRITAIN GREAT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Close these places down!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe only because they came back from Oz on the returning convict ships. Just a matter of changing one type of rat for another.
I am very surprised. I will not be going back to Montpeliano again after reading this. How disgraceful that places charge so much and don’t even have basic standards in place. Thank you for sharing this useful list.
A few years back a rat was seen running around Monpeliano.
No restaurant should be allowed to remain open unless it reaches ‘good’
Very disappointed to see La Poule au Pot so low on the list.
As long as it tastes delicious who give a monkeys.
