Will the last person to leave please turn off the lights?
The Euro election results clearly identified that we have become a nation of voters who speak from the knee rather than the brain. We have empowered a group of people with no real influence and it seems we almost favour a return to the 1970s. The only “mainstream” swing was a vote for Labour – yet another party funded by unelected trade unions: Miliband can vouch for that.
The underlying message is that at present there is no leader currently in charge of a political party who can actually command any respect either here or across the channel.

Angela remains in charge and we remain a protest vote that will eventually serve no purpose at all. What a joke and it’s on us as the voting populace of the UK. No wonder the Scots now favour leaving and prophetically I ask: “Will the last person left please turn off the lights?” so at least we won’t have to keep spending money debating the validity of wind farms. It’d be better just to seal Westminster so that we could capture the hot air contained within that decaying edifice.

My local newspaper, in deepest Somerset, used to run ‘political’ columns written by ‘trying too hard’ political bores. These chaps so loved a medium for their highly predictable political ‘witterings’ they would write claptrap for nothing!
I suspect boring old Gus is of the same ilk. We know he lurks in the country somewhere.
Gus dear, we all know how the Labour Party is funded, just as we all know that the Conservative Party is funded by a donors who, being mainly hedge funders and arms dealers, are most certainly not elected by the populace.
And when they seal Westminster you should be there: after all you spout rather a lot of hot air.
As for that….’when the last person blah blah… Can’t you think of something more original?
After much reflection Mr Wayde has decided to comment no longer on Steeples Times.
He will be missed by intelligent readers but not the thicko’s.
Steeples Times could have been an interesting platform for a ‘Great Debate’ on the factors contributing to the rise of UKIP: instead Matthew digs out some nonentity, the ludicrously named Gus Instinct, to pontificate in a tediously partisan way. I lower myself by even commenting on his nonsense.

I gus you are right. The European Union are about as attractive as Angela Merkel in a thong. We are better off in the dark in this instance, although some Liberal Democrat Peers will get over excited.. Go on switch off the lights.

Please reconsider Wayde. Though we sometimes disagreed, I mostly enjoyed your postings containing wit and the occasional rapier. You have an obviously well-furnished mind and your leaving would leave these columns a rather grey and dull place. (Or maybe you’re sloping off to some secret assignation with the pulchritudinous Ms Chase!)
I have resisted Mrs Chase’s blatant overtures Glenmore but I yours I cannot! I will follow from France where my French neighbours equally despise the EU construct.
