Owen Jones is wrong to argue that Vicky Pryce shouldn’t have been locked up
In today’s edition of The Independent, Owen Jones, the author of Chavs, argues that “[Vicky] Pryce and her husband should never have been locked up for their crimes”. He is wrong.
Vicky Pryce – who has ridiculously claimed that “most women are jailed due to men” – perverted the course of justice in lying to the police in 2011. She is now on a book tour and for Jones to call her sentencing a “tragedy” is just ludicrous.

A self-proclaimed socialist, Jones continues that many “powerless people” are also wrongly locked up before delving into the “racism” of imprisonment. Frankly, this wishy-washy nonsense is shameful journalism and just as sensationalist as anything that he’d no doubt accuse the Daily Mail of printing. The truth is simple: Vicky Pryce did the crime and she, like her husband, deserved the time.

Vicky Price writing a novel based on the experiences of her 62 days custodial sentence in one of Chris Grayling’s holiday camps, had she been locked up in a South African or Zimbabwean Prison, I could take the book a bit more seriously. Free dental procedures makes it worth your while even if you are wrongly imprisoned. It is a win-win situation, as you even get a book deal, depending whether your crime is sensational enough.
Her comical statement that most woman are jailed due to men is a laugh. Challenges are part of everyone’s life but there comes dark moments when a challenge turns into a crisis. Cherie Blair’s approach to “Cherie gate” was to become the “Damsel in stress” and cried “I am a mother, my son is leaving home to go to university”.
If you choose to play a man’s game, at least try and have some balls.
Owen Jones and Vicky Pryce must do the their homework. A large number of so-called non- violent inmates in British Prisons are in custody for breaching their community orders or licence. Breaching of bail conditions and much more. They lack responsibility and accountability, no consequences for their actions.
The liberals live in a fantasy land. Lets do the time warp again. It is just a jump to the left, put your hands on your hips.
