Kingfisher snapped catching its lunch in the River Brenta, Italy
First shared in The Telegraph, our Picture of the Week shows a kingfisher emerging from the River Brenta, near Venice in Italy with its lunch.

This plucky bird was captured by a scientist named Fabio Pittarello and dived at speeds approaching 70 miles per hour. The image truly is a reminder that the early bird does catch the worm and is truly stunning.

Oh you, Matthew! I should have known. I rushed to open this to see the jolly-jowled Dickensonian figure of my imagination and find a …..bird.
