A great-granddaughter of George Gordon Meade, the Union’s commander at the Battle of Gettysburg, twice married Happy Rockefeller is a mother of six and has been compared to the Duchess of Windsor when she was plain old Mrs Simpson. A leading philanthropist and breast cancer survivor, of her position within the Rockefeller dynasty, she told the New York Daily News in 1985: “I wasn’t born a Rockefeller. I just happened to marry one. I’ve had the best of both worlds. It’s like living on both sides of the tracks”.
