Bebo “wipes the slate clean”
In July, we reported that Michael Birch had bought back Bebo – a social networking website that he sold for $850 million in 2008 – for just $1 million. Last week, he announced plans to completely revitalise the site.

Birch, a self-made Englishman from Hertfordshire, shared his plans in a video that poked fun at his original creation. For now, the site has been taken down and archived and in its place is “spoof corporate video” that “acknowledge[s] the highs and lows of Bebo over the years”.

In it, Birch highlighted the issues of social networking and accepted that Bebo had become “the single biggest repository of cock and balls ever recorded”.
Of the next chapter and whether the forthcoming reinvention will be successful, he concluded: “Who knows. But one thing’s for certain, it will be fun trying”.
