A small cocktail party was hosted last night at Gieves & Hawkes on Savile Row last night to celebrate the publication of Bayly’s book and next Tuesday, he will speak about it in more detail at the Royal Geographical Society. Those who braved the rain and TfL strike to attend yesterday were enthralled by Bayly’s passion for his subject and it was a pleasure to hear his insightful commentary on Livingstone’s ability to go missing for years at a time.

Livingstone once stated: “If you have men who will only come if they know there is a good road, I don’t want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all”. Someone should have told that to Bob Crow.

Colonel Paul D. Bayly will speak about the life and legacy of Dr David Livingstone on Tuesday 11th February at 7pm at the Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore, London, SW7 2AR. Tickets are £20 (£15 for RGS-IBG members). For further details email [email protected] or telephone +44 (0) 845 0047 801.
