UKIP’s roll call of defectors is hardly newsworthy
The trickle of defections from the Conservative Party to UKIP in recent days has been steady but though the media have made much of this, there’s one thing the turncoats have in common and that is that the general public have never heard of them.
Following in the wake of the treacherous MPs Douglas Carswell and Mark Reckless, UKIP has been able to announce that they’ve lured a curious collection to their murky midst. They number a former deputy to Boris Johnson and “man who hasn’t done much” named Richard Barnes; William Cash Jr., a magazine publisher whose MP father Sir Bill Cash “completely disassociates” himself with and will have “strong words” with his son and a “bored multi-millionaire” investor called Arron Banks. This trio are hardly headline worthy and that the press have even bothered to cover such non-news is telling only of how little political gossip they’ve found at this year’s Conservative conference.

That the media has chosen to laud these names as “significant” speaks volumes as to how unimportant this “news” truly is. UKIP’s star has started to wane and as the general election grows ever closer, it will become clearer to the public that this protest party is just that. This country needs deliverable government rather than false promises that will never come to fruition and the electorate are coming to realise only mainstream parties can offer such.
The question, though, on the lips of many is “who’ll be next?” Well, if UKIP really wish to scupper Cameron, they could always tempt over the benefit loving television ‘star’ Dee Kelly to the “dark side”. She is keen and goodness, wouldn’t that be news? We’d put money on her being one of Boris Johnson’s “vacuum cleaner lovers” so she could be the perfect fit to square off the trio of Banks, Barns and Cash.
