    Not So Roomy

    Small, single room in South Kensington to be sold for £150,000 at auction

     

    A single room in South Kensington is to be auctioned for the staggering sum of £150,000 ($184,000, €172,000 or درهم675,000).

     

    Curiously offered with a “reserve price not to exceed” that sum, the 205 square foot space is on the lower ground floor of 30 Queen’s Gate Gardens and held on a lease with 113 years remaining. It can be accessed from the main ground floor or entrance or via the lower ground floor entrance, has an external window and appears to have a rather large hole bashed in one of its walls.

     

    Auctioneers Allsop will sell what could be one of the most expensive cupboards in London on 30th March at The Cumberland Hotel in Great Cumberland Place, W1H. The agents emphasise a key selling point in stating: “There is no liability towards the building’s insurance or service charge” with this property.

    The world according to Donald Trump (and where to watch the US elections in London)

     

    According to the Bulgarian artist Yanko Tsvetkov, Donald Trump is an example of “a modern Icarus, Trump thinks he’s a butterfly that can cause a hurricane. The problem is he can’t fly”.

     

    In the latest map in his Atlas of Prejudice, Tsvetkov replaces country names with “the world according to Donald Trump”. Iceland is simply a place that supplies “cocktail ice”, South America is a “Miss Universe Farm” and Mexico is just full of “rapists”.

     

    A detailed commentary on Trump follows and at the end, Tsvetkov concludes:

     

    “If you’re a bit more sentimental and forgiving, you can picture him as that racist uncle you still care about because deep in his heart he’s a ‘good person’. Being an idiot excuses you from idiotic actions. Being a clever person acting like an idiot, doesn’t. Whatever the case, Trump is not someone who should spend even a single night at the White House. Not even if he had too much wine after Hillary Clinton’s inauguration party”.

     

    Elsewhere today, at Urbanologie, Hugo Campbell-Davys suggests six places where those in London with an interest in watching the election pan out on 8th November can enjoy the night. Amongst his suggestions of all-night parties are the K Bar at The Kensington Hotel in South Kensington and The Stafford Hotel in St James’s.

Occasionally he takes out a notebook and biro but only once has he been heard to speak; he choose to ring his bank manager about a transfer of the sum of £50,000. A sleeping millionaire?

    It costs £119,965 or £1,527 per square foot to buy enough room to swing a cat – calculated at 78.54 square foot by the homeless charity Shelter – in the London postal code of SW7. For a sum 65.7% higher than that, a 183 square foot leasehold studio in Queen’s Gate can be had for £350,000 or £1,913 per square foot.

     

    For sale through Douglas & Gordon on a lease with 983 years remaining and newly refurbished, the ground floor flat comprises of one room with a kitchen, folding bed and study area and a shower room. It even has two windows and is described as “perfectly located”.

    An SW3 raid

    Home Office immigration enforcement officials raid SW3 apartment block that counts actress Jacqueline Bisset amongst its residents

     

    A ritzy Chelsea apartment building that counts Bullitt star actress Jacqueline Bisset amongst its residents was raided by Home Office immigration enforcement officers on Friday last.

     

    Crompton Court on the corner of Brompton Road and Pelham Street in Chelsea, SW3 was visited by officers just after 10.30pm and of the raid, a source told The Steeple Times:

     

    “A Home Office van pulled up in Pelham Street and about five officers, mostly female, stood hovering with a battering ram outside the former Chanel store. They made no effort to look inconspicuous and bizarrely put on gloves even. Five minutes later, a plain clothed individual let them in”.

     

    “They stayed five minutes and during that time a number of makeup caked Arab ladies left the building quickly”.
