    Boisdale prepares for celebration of ‘Victory Over CV19’ with the launch of fourteen ‘war bonds’ to be redeemed when gastronomes can again gather  

    With outposts in Belgravia, Bishopsgate, Canary Wharf and Mayfair, Boisdale is a London institution where the late, great Baroness Trumpington – a legend known best for once sticking her fingers up in Churchillian fashion at a fellow peer in the House of Lords when she took umbrage at some nonsense he was spouting – was given a prize for writing an article titled: “If I ruled the world” in 2015.

    Baroness Trumpington and Sir Winston Churchill both enjoyed sticking their fingers up at things they did not like; they’d both have given the finger to COVID-19.

    Now, like all restaurants throughout the land, Boisdale is sadly temporarily shut, but its affable and somewhat eccentric proprietor Ranald Macdonald has decided to prepare his customers for the better days that will be with us soon.

     

    Presented as ‘war bonds’ and featuring imagery of Churchill, the celebratory ‘Victory Over CV19’ vouchers on offer include everything from two whole lobster thermidors or a 20oz Scottish chateaubriand for two with four side dishes for just £75 (usually £120) to a private victory party with food and wine to the value of £2,000 for just £1,500.

     

    Those wanting a real steal can opt for a £295 ‘Belvedere and caviar’ bond with 200g grams of Russian Oscietra caviar and a whole bottle of vodka to wash it down with (normally £695), but sadly the only thing Macdonald cannot provide is Churchill’s very own presence. When coronavirus is banished, the greatest ever wartime leader would have most definitely have reused the remark: “In victory I deserve it. In defeat I need it” as the very first champagne cork goes pop.

    Matthew Steeples remembers the motor racing legend Sir Stirling Moss, “the greatest driver never to have won the world championship”

    Mille Miglia-winning Sir Stirling Moss, whose death at the age of 90 was announced this morning, remarkably survived falling down the lift shaft of his Mayfair home in 2010. He also kept road traffic policemen in punchlines with the infamous and much quoted: “Who do you think you are? Stirling Moss?”

     

    Resilient and witty to the end, Sir Stirling himself famously came out with quips such as: “If God had meant for us to walk, why did he give us feet that fit car pedals?” and “There are two things no man will admit he cannot do well: drive and make love.” When he got banned from driving in 1960, he took it with good spirit and reportedly even bravely allowed the late, great Marisa Masters – a lady certainly not known for her driving skills – to ferry him around. She often recounted how she “taught him about speed” as she motored round with him and a bottle of sambuca (to keep her going).

     

    Sir Stirling hit “third time lucky” in marrying the loveliest of ladies, Susie Paine, in 1980 and together they had a son, Elliot. Even after taking ill with a serious chest infection in 2016 and subsequently retiring from public life, he remained jovial and as this British sporting legend motors off into the sky, I join those saluting this king of the fast lane.

    Keith Vaz MP’s sister proves herself to be just as grasping as her vile rent-boy loving pervert brother

     

    Most people think rent-a-gob Keith Vaz to be quite bad enough. This Teflon-like creep has taken cash from anyone who’ll hand it over and used rooms in The Washington Hotel in Mayfair to enjoy a bit of fun with rent boys. Now, it seems, his fellow MP sister is joining in on his tawdry money grabbing gig and moaned about having her holidays docked.

     

    That MPs get “half-term breaks” is appalling (our view is: “Make them work like the rest of the populous year round”) but Valerie Vaz thinks differently. Yesterday in the House of Commons, this reprehensible woman bleated on about the cancelling of a week’s recess and announced: “I can’t possibly understand what Members are going through with this announcement… What provision will be given to [MPs who have children?] It cannot be right that Honourable Members have to support their children without the Government stepping in and providing proper provision for it.”

     

    In all seriousness, with the nation wanting a solution to Britain’s Brexit chaos, Miss Vaz should be given the sack by the Labour Party. This lazy, out-of-touch wench, just like her brother – whose wife wanted to “smash crockery over his head” over his deviant extracurricular activities – is not fit to represent the public. It is time to call in Rentokil: Valerie Vaz and her shameless brother need to be dispatched with urgently.

    Last night, at Claridge’s, blagger and ligger David Pun put in appearance for the Mayfair Times Awards 2019.

     

    No doubt pretending to be a director of Harvey Nichols, Peninsula Hotels and an architect also, Pun sported his signature bow tie and reportedly ate and drank more than anyone in sight.

    Mrs Simpson Farmed in Mayfair

    Mayfair “farmhouse” where Mrs Simpson began her affair with the then Prince of Wales for sale for 147% more than it was marketed for in 2012

     

    Last marketed at a price of £4.75 million ($6.04 million, €5.30 million or درهم22.19 million) in 2012 and offered for sale in 2005 at an undisclosed sum also, a house where the then Mrs Simpson began her affair with the then Prince of Wales is again for sale.

     

    Rebuilt in the early 1900s by a Mrs M. Strakosch in “the Gothic style,” Farm House – or 22 Farm Street as it is more simply known – stands on the site of a farmhouse that predated the development of Mayfair.

     

    Entered through a large oak front door that feature the heads of the twelve apostles, the half-timbered house Mrs Strakosch commissioned featured Flemish linenfold paneling and 17th century doors. Though much of this has now gone, a number of Jacobean and medieval features remain and what is now offered is described as “the perfect space for modern entertaining.”

    Farm House includes three reception rooms, two kitchens, six bedrooms, four bathrooms, two terraces and a garage. It extends to 4,564 square foot over four floors and was home to the Swiss born Thelma Furness, Viscountess Furness (1904 – 1970), the twice married mistress of the then Prince of Wales and later King Edward VIII between 1930 and 1934, during their relationship.

     

    Furness, whose twin sister Gloria (1904 – 1965) became a Vanderbilt and was also the maternal grandmother of the American news anchor Anderson Cooper, at this time, was friends with Wallis Simpson. She introduced her American friend to the prince at her country house, Burrough Court, near Melton Mowbray, first in 1931 but then became supplanted in his affections in 1934.

     

    With their relationship approaching its end, Furness embarked on a short affair with Prince Aly Khan whilst in America and whilst there allowed Simpson to live in her Farm Street home according to the actress Gloria Swanson (1899 – 1983). Later, in her autobiography Silent Boulevard, Swanson wrote:

     

    “Lady Thelma Furness had a charming house on Farm Street, where her friend Wallis Simpson has kept the Prince of Wales company while Thelma was away in the States.”

     

    Swanson, whilst pregnant, and her then husband Michael Farmer subsequently rented Farm House from Furness and of their time there wrote: “The house was empty for the moment, so we settled in to wait for the baby and see old friends.”

     

    Knight Frank now seek £11.75 million ($14.95 million, €13.12 million or درهم54.90 million) for Farm House. Reportedly, according to a 2012 Mayfair Times article, the property comes with deeds that specifically mention that it still has a “right of way for sheep.”

    ‘Tables d’Exception’ launched at Rolls-Royce in Mayfair

     

    On 29th November 2018, the extremely connected and delightfully affable Alexandra Foley organised a party for her client the French interior architect and antique tableware collector Hubert de Vinols at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars London’s Berkeley Square showroom in Mayfair.

     

    Showcasing Mr de Vinols’ ‘Tables d’Exception’ concept – whereby the ultimate lunch and dinner parties are created with antique ‘tablescapes’ inspired by the grand styles of the 18th and 19th centuries – the event not only offered guests a chance to view these ‘for hire’ works of art, but also a chance to begin what was one of the busiest Christmas party seasons in recent years in London in style.

     

    Amongst those present were Heather Bird Tchenguiz, Liz Brewer, Basia Briggs, Dr Mark Collins, Navjot Dhanoa, Constantin Gordon, William Hanson, Christopher Hargreaves, Christian Huhnt, David Jenkins, Richard Martyn-Hemphill, Lord Oxmantown, Marie-Athena Papathanasiou, Alexis Parr, Melleney Samsudin and Matthew Steeples.

     

    Of his reasoning to introduce his company into the UK to serve “à la française,” Vinols told The Steeple Times:

     

    “I wish for Tables d’Exception to enable a return to refined entertaining, where a beautiful setting inspires convivial discourse. Tables d’Exception is the ‘Go To’ for generous hosts who want to entertain at the highest level, in the spirit of the Gilded Age and Belle Époque.”

    Last night in Mayfair, David Pun was arrested in full view of invited guests. Cuffed and taken to a police station, this renowned party crasher finally was brought to book.

     

    Having pretended to own Harvey Nichols and Peninsula Hotels on occasions, Pun is the very best known of the liggers of London. He has featured on walls of shame in supermarkets, on television and on the cover of a book even; he has been spotted nabbing canapes at funerals and in places as diverse as Blenheim Palace and Venice. He has even been caught watching porn in the foyer of a hotel in South Kensington.

     

    David Pun has, now, however, finally met his match. May he now disappear to the bottom of the drinks tray.

    At Granger in Chelsea, a Hill House mother chatted with another of her number. She stated: “I go to lunch at 4.30pm as I don’t do breakfast or dinner. You know why: I don’t want to end up looking like Liz Hurley, do I?”

     

    Standard Death

    A pair of Russian women lunched at Chiltern Firehouse. One announced: “I went to a really f***ing budget wedding recently… One thing that is so important is alcohol but these people served Russian Standard. Social death. It’s like doing something in Shoreditch.”

     

    Priestly Observations

    Two Brompton Oratory priests lunching at Colbert on Sloane Square chatted with a fellow diner about the locality. “It’s changed very much lately,” said one. The other added: “I preferred it when there were more ladies like Miss Marple.”

    Social networking sites have become a part of everyday life for many people especially for millennials. In an effort to attract this demographic, many industries have begun to harness the power of social media.  One such industry is the food industry where many restaurants and cafes utilise the photo networking site, Instagram, to promote places to visit such as these venues in London.

     

    Peggy Porschen

    If you’ve got a sweet tooth, then definitely a visit with Peggy’s is in order. Probably one of the most picturesque bake shops in the capital, the store is painted pink and adorned with hearts and flowers. The shop has been the background of many selfies so don’t be surprised to see crowds out front snapping pics. While the baked goods are a bit pricey, the whole visit is an experience. The cupcakes are seriously delicious and worth every pound. Open daily from 8am to 8pm, Peggy’s sweets can be washed down with tea or even champagne.

     

    Bob Bob Ricard

    This elegant eatery is decorated in a style reminiscent of the 1920s. On the menu is both Russian and British cuisine. Expect to find comfort food accompanied by lots of champagne. To further emphasize the availability of champagne, each booth is outfitted with its own “press for champagne” button which adds a bit of fun to the dining experience here. A full bar is available if cocktails are more to your liking. Perhaps start off with platinum vodkas shots which has been chilled to -18°C. Meals here aren’t cheap and it you are wanting to impress a date or guests, BBR is the place to go.

     

    Bubblewrap Waffle

    With their signature bubble waffle, the BubblewrapWaffle has also earned its reputation for being one of the top Instagrammed eateries in London. Originally an import from Hong Kong and featured in Chinatown, egg waffles have evolved into these snacks constructed from lattice batter. You can opt for either the original or chocolate flavoured. The bubblewrap is then stuffed with gelato as well as toppings of your choice. Then it is all wrapped up much like a cone. While many prefer the sweet versions of the bubblewraps, many also opt for the savoury flavours including the avocado egg featuring eggs and avocado.

     

    Berner’s Tavern

    One of three restaurants in West End London created by Jason Atherton, Berner’s Tavern opened five years ago. While the menu provides mouth-watering fare, if it the atmosphere and décor that make this venue tops on Instagram. The dining room is large and spacious with an ornate plasterwork ceiling that help make it quite photogenic. Located within the newly opened Edition Hotel, the restaurant’s walls are tiled with numerous framed pieces of fine art.

     

    Palm Vaults

    This pastel café is covered with palm trees and plants. Featured here are colourful lattes that are very Instagrammable including ones in hues of rose, aqua and lavender.     Racist Marie-Claire, ‘Baroness’ von Alvensleben spotted dashing for sparkling wine as she ‘works the room’ at chi-chi antiques fair

     

    Last night at LAPADA, waiting to pounce on unsuspecting innocents complete with her trademark helmet hairstyle, Marie-Claire ‘Baroness’ von Alvensleben perched on a bench at the entrance.

     

    The wannabe Elnett ambassador’s eyes beamed when a bottle of Gusbourne English sparkling wine appeared on the horizon and a witness spotted the convicted racist dashing towards it. As a waitress poured, an observer remarked: “If she has any more, she’ll be on the floor” (in reference to the author of Absolutely Everything’s previous antics drunkenly rolling around at a party with television presenter Michael Barrymore).
