Scott Borgerson didn’t come to public attention until crusading author Kirby Sommers – author of the deservedly lauded expose ‘Ghislaine Maxwell: An Unauthorized Biography’ – brought up his name in connection with the mucky madam’s purchase of the Tuckedaway, New Hampshire estate where she ultimately got snared. Majestic Georgian mansion Marle Hall on 3.6 acres in Wales goes on sale for just £400,000 in spite of having 16,608 square foot of accommodation and “impressive views”

An allegedly haunted 18^th century manor house in Llandudno, Wales is for sale for the bargain price of just £400,000 or just £24 per square foot.

Grade II listed Marle Hall – which was firstly built for Sir Hugh Williams, 5^th Baronet (1628 – 1686) and which mostly burnt down in the 18^th century – was used in the 19^th century as a convalescent home and from 1971 by Warwickshire County Council as an outdoors learning centre for residential trips for Warwickshire schoolchildren.

Closed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Warwickshire County Council subsequently decided to close down the facility and in spite of a 7,000 strong petition to keep it open, it is now up for auction. The authorities had estimated that it would cost over £850,000 to modernise the facility and had decided “the costs needed to maintain and develop the site to the required standard were prohibitive.”

Situated on a 3.6-acre plot, the Grade II listed hall extends to 16,608 square foot in total and comes with a Grade II listed cottage and something called a “mobile classroom.”

According to the Manchester Evening News: “Arguably the most glorious of the features is the entrance hall and staircase, boasting wood wall paneling, intricate carved newel posts, Jacobean-style balusters and stained glass window panels.”

“Exposed ceiling beams, a stone fireplace and fancy wooden double doors are extra features that instantly impress once you walk through the carved stone archway dating back to Tudor times, from the front door into the main reception hall.

“There’s multi-layered cornicing to reward you if you look up and either tiles, wood floorboards or beautifully sanded parquet flooring if you look down within some of the main ground floor reception rooms.”

The huge, classic Georgian windows in the main rooms ensure each space is bursting with light and the abundance of wood in the primary rooms add visually warmth to the white and pale blue colour palette.”

“There’s a fancy metal and tiled fireplace in one of the reception rooms but the décor is, of course, set up to be operational as an outdoor education centre, so the interior design is minimal and simple to be ideal for its past commercial usage.

“So there’s a large, commercial kitchen, a large dining room with long tables and multiple chairs, carpeted classrooms, offices and lounges.”

“As this property welcomed groups of children who went on treks around the surrounding countryside, the house has a large boot room and changing room, and a space allocated to drying out wet kit.”

Give Up Ghislaine

After Ghislaine Maxwell has had bail denied FIVE times and last week lost a bid to dismiss sex trafficking indictment, she would do best to give up and seek a plea bargain

Most people, when in a hole, realise the folly of their ways and eventually stop digging, but the grubby alleged sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell is certainly far from most people.

A one-time ‘bestie’ of aristocracy, dynastic tycoons, politicians and royalty, this mucky madam has now failed in all five of her attempts to get bail. This is hardly surprising given she has been deemed a flight risk due to having multi-millions in assets, has been known to use pseudonyms to hide her identity and possesses multiple passports.

Last week, making matters worse and no doubt yet again annoying the US district judge presiding over her case, mucky madam Maxwell attempted and failed to get the case against her dismissed on the basis of the recent overturning of Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction.

Justifying why this was quite rightly kicked out, ABC News reported: “Judge Nathan said Ms Maxwell had not been promised she would not be prosecuted, as the Supreme Court said Mr Cosby had been.”

“The judge also rejected Ms Maxwell’s arguments that prosecutors waited too long to charge her with sex trafficking between 2001 and 2004, saying the US Congress’s 2006 elimination of the statute of limitations applied retroactively.”

“Lawyers for Ms Maxwell said her case was similar because she had been immunised under Epstein’s 2007 non-prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors in Florida, in exchange for pleading guilty to Florida state prostitution charges.”

“Ms Maxwell had testified in a since-settled [for an undisclosed sum] £36 million ($50 million) civil lawsuit against her by Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, and the lawyers said it was unfair for prosecutors to use that testimony to build their criminal case.”

“But Judge Nathan said the cases were not the same, and adhered to her April ruling that Epstein’s agreement did not bind the Manhattan prosecutors or cover accused co-conspirators.”

“Mr Cosby’s case ‘focused on whether prosecutors were required to honour a promise the court found to be clear in the absence of a formal plea agreement,’ Judge Nathan wrote.”

“’Even if this court agreed with the analysis in [Mr Cosby’s case], that opinion sheds no light on the proper interpretation of the NPA in this case,’ she added.”

Elsewhere, making matters even worse, meddling Maxwell – whom The Mail on Sunday today revealed has sold her Kinnerton Street, Belgravia mews house for £1.75 million ($2.4 million) to a “Hampshire-based property developer” Stuart Robinson with the help of the disgraced solicitor Malcolm Grumbridge – stuck her oar into the pending civil case against Prince Andrew in September.

Offering to give evidence on the royal’s behalf might seem to some as a generous act of continued friendship, but in fact it is of utterly no help at all to the stupidly silent Duke of York. Maxwell, facing trial herself in November is anything but a useful defence asset for him, really should keep her oar out and if she had any sense she’d stop getting the likes of Brian Basham and Jay Beecher from peddling nonsense and focus on saving herself from an 80-year sentence by just seeking a plea bargain. Like father, like daughter, given this stubborn woman’s past performance and arrogance, of course, she won’t.

Whilst most consider Chelsea – the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea – ritzy, in March 2014, realty firm Beauchamp Estates bizarrely declared it “a place where servants live.”

Now, contrasting with the sale of what potentially could be “Britain’s most expensive home” in the same area – the £200 million plus ($278 million, €233 million or درهم1 billion) The Old Rectory, Old Church Street, featured in The Steeple Times in May 2019 – a comparative bargain basement property has gone on sale in the vicinity.

Set to be offered in an online auction on Wednesday 14^th July with an estimate of just £40,000 ($56,000, €47,000 or درهم204,000), Flat 10, Blenheim House at 180 Kings Road most certainly must be the cheapest one bedroom flat currently available in the Royal Borough.

Described as “requiring modernisation,” the third floor flat includes an entrance hall, small kitchenette, sitting room, bedroom and en-suite shower room. It is situated at the corner with Burnsall Street and above the Snappy Snaps shop.

Curious Facts About The Kings Road

A £5m Roofless Ruin

Fire damaged Wimbledon house with half its roof missing goes on sale for the staggering sum of £5 million; is this Britain’s most expensive roofless wreck?

In June 2015, The Steeple Times featured the sale of a repossessed 15,453 square foot house in Cumbria without any protection from the elements. At the time, its punchy £3 million ($4.1 million, €3.5 million or درهم15.2 million) price tag seemed ludicrous, but now we can ‘rain on its parade’ as it has ‘lost its eaves’ to a £5 million ($6.9 million, €5.8 million or درهم25.4 million) house in Drax Avenue, West Wimbledon currently for sale.

Britain’s now likely most expensive wreck without a roof comes in the form of a 5,000 square foot detached house – which, surprisingly is “locally listed” and thus cannot just be flattened – on a plot of one acre backing onto the Royal Wimbledon golf course.

The “period” property lost half its first floor and half its roof on 10^th January 2018 when it caught fire. It took six fire engines and thirty-five firefighters just over two hours to bring the blaze under control, according to the Wimbledon Guardian.

James Morrison of selling agents Savills is anything but despondent about the future prospects for this currently not-so-regal residence. In typically bullish realtor fashion, he seizes an exclamation mark and begins: “[This is] a simply exceptional opportunity!”

Continuing Morrison gushes: “The house requires extensive refurbishment throughout. However, there is plenty of scope to extend and renovate this wonderful period property.”

Aside from “well balanced living and entertaining space across three floors with a central galleried stairwell” – and presumably a lot of charring and ingressed water damage, there is also an overgrown garden, weed infested swimming pool and a currently derelict tennis court.

Buyers will no doubt be flocking round the block to move in time for the Wimbledon Championships 2021, which starts on 28^th June.

OTHER WRECKS WITHOUT A ROOF PREVIOUSLY FEATURED IN ‘THE STEEPLE TIMES’

The Lilymere Estate, Killington, Cumbria, England

Featured when offered as repossession from a disgraced and struck-off solicitor in June 2015, this lacking shelter from the elements, potentially 8-bedroom, house came with a price tag of £3 million ($4.1 million, €3.5 million or درهم15.2 million) and 1,530 acres of land.

Of the estate, at the time, another overly optimistic estate agent, Andrew Black, also of Savills, mused: “An awful lot has been invested in it and what has been done has been done to a high standard. You can see what the vision was but they never got to complete it.”

“It needs someone with the vision and the resources to finish it. Within reason, they’ve essentially got a blank canvas to put their own decorative style on. It is a one-off and a special place but it will be a challenge and require further investment.”

Muness Castle, Island of Unst, Scotland

Offered for auction in April 2021 for just £130,000 ($179,000, €151,000 or درهم659,000), this Grade A-listed castle came with with cottages, barony title, gold and copper reserves and 240 acres of land. It was bizarrely subsequently put up for auction again with just 160 acres of land a few days later after apparently selling for £184,000 ($254,000, €214,000 or درهم933,000).

Knockhall Castle, Newburgh, Aberdeen, Scotland

Also priced at £130,000 ($179,000, €151,000 or درهم659,000) when placed on the market in August 2017, this shell dates to 1565 and stands near the Trump International Golf Links course. The B-listed structure was accidentally burnt to the ground by Jamie Fleming, “a servant fool” of the then owners, the Udny of that Ilk family, in 1734.

Beyond the somewhat punchy £5 million price tag, any purchaser will have to shell out a fortune for a lot more beyond just roof tiles.

As her chirping crooner chum Christopher Mason parties in prison-orange pants with her other mates, ‘Grubby Ghislaine’ Maxwell languishes in a paper jump suit; look at who and what she’s missing out on in the Hamptons… For her, it’s Krug-less via a bit of “Orange Is The New Black”

Christopher Mason used to like to chirp for Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein about seriously sordid sexual antics, he liked to sing songs for their decidedly deviant associate Donald Trump and last Saturday, he put in appearance at a party where many of the incarcerated one’s (former) friends were present. Ironically (or intentionally) for this super special occasion minus their mucky madam appendage, the author and crooner Mason wore ‘prison-orange’ pants and sported orange loafers.

British-American transplant Mason, for once without one of his trademark and decidedly dodgy bow ties, perhaps channeled the “Orange Is The New Black pokey look” to remind fellow guests of the plight of their one-time chum, Ghislaine – after all she was stuck in a cell she’s claiming is sewage, rat and cockroach infested whilst they were all out in the Hamptons necking Krug and bingeing on caviar.

Though social butterflies and famous faces have hurriedly distanced themselves from the ‘Bouncing Czech’s’ poison spawn, many associates and friends of Miss Maxwell (or Mrs Scott Borgerson, as she ought to really be known) were present at a gathering at the ‘Grosvenor Atterbury Estate’ at 199 Coopers Necks Lane in Southampton, New York on 12^th June 2021.

Owned currently by a “Manhattan real estate developer (DUMBO in Brooklyn) David Walentas,” according to the New York Social Diary’s David Patrick Columbia, the 6pm to 8pm bash at the ritzy residence was “designed” and hosted by a “major organizer [sic] of smart, chic, grand (and fun) parties” named Bronson van Wyck. Whether ‘Grubby Ghislaine’ was a conversational subject is unreported, but it’s pretty likely she was high on the agenda.

Of the event for 100 “prominent” and “not-so-underprivileged” people, Mr Columbia instead peacocked:

“The roadway along Coopers Neck was jammed with enthusiastic residents looking forward to a good time.”

“And a good time was had by all. And then there was the huge excitement of everybody seeing everybody – many for the first time in months. It was a real reunion celebration. Even Brooke Shields who has been recovering from a terrible accident and surgeries, made it to the party, looking like the top of the morning and showing no sign of what she’d been through.”

Individuals who’ve been snapped with Ghislaine Maxwell previously, aside from ‘Orange Pants’ Mason, at the “huge hit” evening numbered Tory Burch, Candace Bushnell, Tiffany Dubin and Martha Stewart. Whether Christopher Mason burst into song – as he’d done previously back in 1993 – about Jeffrey Epstein’s egg-shaped penis thankfully remains unknown.

Christopher Mason subsequently wrote other poems for Jeffrey Epstein. In one he was described, according to the Daily Mail, as “’Silverado,’ as if he were a gray-haired cowboy… Urban cowboy desperado.”

In 2008, Christopher Mason spoke to CBNC about the scandal that enveloped the husband of another party guest at 199 Coopers Neck Lane, Southampton last Saturday – Judy Taubman, the billionaire widow of the disgraced former Sotheby’s owner turned eventual jailbird (like Ghislaine Maxwell), A. Alfred Taubman (1924 – 2015). Mr Taubman appeared in the famous Maxwell-Epstein ‘black book,’ naturally.

On a different note, in 2014, University of Cambridge educated Christopher Mason sang about Kim Kardashian’s arse. Ms. Kardashian was unsurprisingly not listed on the ‘New York Social Diary’ as amongst those present at last Saturday’s party in either their ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ lists even. We imagine she was glad.

Also present at the gathering at the ‘Grosvenor Atterbury Estate’ gathering was financier Euan Rellie. In July 2020, he tweeted of Alan Dershowitz: “This guy @AlanDersh is protesting way too much” after the lawyer and former defender of amongst others Claus von Bülow leapt to the defence of the alleged paedophile procurer Ghislaine Maxwell in ‘The Spectator.’

A £250,000 Tardis

Tardis-like Grade II listed lodge house currently for sale could be Britain’s smallest detached house; it measures 10-foot by 8-foot and today also we feature some other examples of the nation’s smallest character packed homes

Whilst the Mirror wrote of what they called “Britain’s smallest detached house” in April – measuring 12-foot by 26-foot and priced at £140,000 – we can go one better and today feature a Grade II listed detached house in North Yorkshire measuring just 10-foot by 8-foot.

More practical than the £810,000 2.5-foot by 65-foot Knightsbridge “corridor” mews house The Steeple Times included in March 2017, 481 square foot Sunset Lodge forms one of a pair of symmetrical lodges standing either side of decorative wrought iron gates to Grimston Park, near Tadcaster – a Grade II* listed Georgian mansion of the Italianate style that has now been converted into thirteen individual residences.

Grimston Park has been occupied as a grand country residence, was used by the RAF in the Second World War and subsequently became an events venue. It was converted into 13 residences more recently.

Featuring a kitchen with an “orangery style roof” with a sunken patio beyond, there is also a living area, a “barrel ceilinged” shower room and a dressing room also.

Parking is provided outside for two vehicles and lawned gardens extend beyond. The estate beyond includes a stud-livery, parkland and buildings occupied on both a residential and a commercial basis.

Agents Carter Jonas initially marketed the property at £299,950 in March 2020, but have since reduced that sum to £250,000. The present owners, Tom and Rebecca Hallisey, paid just £85,000 for the building 15 years ago and thus stand to return an increase of +194% if they sell at asking price.

Speaking of the property to the Yorkshire Post in March 2020, Rebecca Hallisey remarked: “It was in a poor state of repair but [when we first saw it, but] we fell in love with it and we could see it had potential.”

She continued: “We moved a lot before we came here but we have stayed because we love the building and it is such a beautiful, peaceful place to live. We wish we could stay forever and we are only moving for health reasons as we need a single-storey home.”

Also featured in The Steeple Times when for sale in 2017 for £600,000, this 290 square foot detached house measured 8.5-foot by 14-foot. Estate agents estimated it could be worth £1 million when renovated, but as of May 2021, it remains in unloved condition.

In December 2016, we wrote about this Grade II listed former toll house that extends to just 146 square foot. The 18^th century, detached, thatched property was priced at just £110,000 at the time.

At the other end of the price scale, but still the cheapest, smallest house on one of London’s smartest streets, The Boltons in London, this £6.5 million terraced residence was home to novelist Jeffrey Archer from 1972 to 1976. Surprisingly due to it widening as it goes back, it actually provides 3,123 square foot of accommodation over 4 floors – so is not as quite as small as it initially seems.

Deviant Durst Deservedly Denied

Real estate royal, bigamist and body dismemberer Robert Durst is deservedly denied an indefinite halt to his trial as his lawyer attacks the reputation of one of this suspected serial killer’s likely victims

Defended only by Donald Trump – whom once remarked of him on Twitter: “Personally, I think Douglas Durst’s brother got screwed by Douglas – no wonder he’s angry” – cross dressing real estate scion Robert Durst, a man accused of murdering his one-time best friend Susan Berman in 2000 unsurprisingly didn’t manage to get his latest trial halted indefinitely this week.

Clearly deviant beyond belief and a man whom drank Jack Daniels and smoked pot before hacking apart the body of his then neighbour, Morris Black, and chucking his body in Galveston Bay in 2001, this definite deviant also remains a suspect in the 1982 disappearance of his wife, Kathie. Here, indeed, is someone with a plainly warped beyond weird moral compass and here is a 78-year-old with no concept of right and wrong.

Speaking of him in court in Los Angeles yesterday, Durst’s own attorney, Dick DeGuerin remarked on the “awful, awful dismemberment” as a “sickly… Durst blinked occasionally but [showed] no outward sign of emotion,” according to ABC News’ Brian Melley. DeGuerin then continued: “He doesn’t make good decisions… [but he] did not kill Susan Berman and he doesn’t know who did… [He] had no motive to gain by the death of Susan Berman.”

Turning to the slayed victim, DeGuerin condescendingly continued: “She was a fabulist. She made up stories. She told lies day in and day out.”

DeGuerin and others thus far have neglected to mention another of his client’s decidedly dodgy traits: In March 2020, this evil looking man’s “secret second wife,” Debrah Lee Charatan, was damned as a “bigamist” by a lawyer for the sister of Kathie Durst. Speaking to the New York Post, Robert Abrams remarked: “Plain and simple, she violated the law, she is a bigamist.”

Going further of Charatan having had another husband “until his death in 2019,” Abrams added: “There is no question that while married to Mr Durst, Mrs Charatan purported to contract a marriage with Steven Holm.”

After being forced to cut ties to his family empire in 2006, Robert Durst was bunged £46 million ($65 million, €53 million or درهم239 million) as part of a likely since unfulfilled hope that he’d disappear and shut his almighty gob. He handed £14 million ($20 million, €16 million or درهم73 million) of that to Debrah Lee Charatan. She continues to plug her trade online at BCBprop.com.

Mobster’s daughter Berman was found dead on Christmas Eve 2000 at her home in Benedict Canyon, California. Her body was found in an “execution style” setting, but it was not until March 2015 that Durst was arrested and charged in New Orleans with her first degree murder.

Robert Durst pictured with his “disappeared” first wife, Kathie. This week Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah announced her office is reopening the investigation into the 1982 disappearance. Of this, Rocah remarked: “At the time that this alleged homicide occurred… We did not have the same understanding of domestic violence, and how that kind of abuse could play into relationships and how it could frankly color law enforcement – and by that I mean police and prosecutors’ perspectives. So we will investigate this… It is challenging to do it after so long and we want to do it right. This has been around, and the family obviously wants and needs closure, I think, a whole community wants and needs closure.”

Earn From The Lord

Former church hall on the Isle of Lewis to be sold for just £34,000 in spite of the fact that it could earn the buyer £300 per night

Lionel (Gaelic: ‘Lìonal’) forms part of the Barvas (‘Barabhas’) civil parish on the Isle of Lewis, the largest island of the Outer Hebrides archipelago in Scotland. Like the castle we featured last month, it is extremely isolated but unlike that white elephant, it is situated on an island that has a population of some 20,000 and where the main industries are crofting, fishing, peat cutting and weaving.

Accessed by a daily ferry from Ullapool on the Scottish mainland that takes 2 hours and 30 minutes and served by an airport also, Lewis remains an extremely religious island and though the Sabbath is still observed mostly, the sale of a church hall is indicative that change is perhaps on the way.

Offered by Future Property Auctions this week, the non-listed former church hall at Lionel is described as a “super investment opportunity” with “development potential” as an Airbnb that could rent for “upto £300 per night ($417, €347 or درهم1,500 per night) at peak times.”

Extending to 820 square foot in total currently with a large, double height single room and entrance vestibule, the detached building has been listed with a remarkably low guide price of just £34,000 ($47,300, €39,400 or درهم173,600) and is described as potentially also being capable for use as a permanent home, creche, museum or public library with “super income earning potential.”

Bidding online for the church hall opens at 10am on the 7^th May 2021 and closes at 4pm on the same day on the Future Property Auctions website.

The interior of the building is watertight but in need of renovation. Sadly, character features including pews have been removed, but there is clearly potential to create a two-storey single dwelling house with earning options as a holiday home within the space.

Viewed from the rear and side, the plot on which the former Lionel Mission Hall is clearly not large, but it is surrounded by farmland.

For someone seeking peace and quiet, the location would be ideal. Equally, given tourism is a source of local income, the earning potential of the building once renovated as a holiday let is clear.

A Cottage For A Quid

Crumbling stone-built seaside cottage in Welsh foodie destination and royal town of Caernarfon goes on sale for just £1

The Royal Town of Caernarfon sits on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait in North Wales and as a result of its proximity to Snowdonia and history dating back to Roman times is a “major tourist centre,” according to Wikipedia. It has a marina, award winning arts centre, a maritime museum and numerous popular pubs, bars and restaurants.

Situated down an alleyway behind the now shuttered Morris Bros Gors Bach Bakery shop at 72 Pool Street, a stone-built derelict cottage is currently being marketed by the Doorsteps online estate agency for the seemingly remarkable price of just £1.

Though clearly in need of total renovation, the space offered is just a three minute walk from the seafront and directly adjoins the town’s revamped shopping district where the annual food festival attracts around 30,000 visitors each May.

Of the property offered, the Mirror last week observed: “It now needs a total makeover to become a dream seaside cottage in the heart of the holiday town” and could instead be converted to a studio space even.

In their very brief marketing literature, Doorsteps, however, add: “Terms and conditions apply,” but when contacted for comment were somewhat curiously not able to elaborate further.

Bidding for the cottage to the rear of 72 Pool Street, Caernarfon is scheduled to commence online on 6^th May 2021 at 12 noon and will conclude at 1pm on the same day. Interestingly, a bidding deposit of £500 is required to participate – some £499 or 49,900% more than the property’s guide price.

The interior of the cottage is nothing but an empty shack currently, but there is plenty of character that could be incorporated into its potential reuse as a home.

The space could be used as a holiday cottage, permanent residence or a studio even – subject to any necessary planning consents being granted.

The currently derelict cottage is behind an also currently derelict bakery that had been in business for over 50 years and accessed via a somewhat unappealing alleyway.

The annual Caernarfon Food Festival is not happening in 2021 due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, but it is normally a popular event and attended by around 30,000 people.

The festival occurs throughout the town and on the sea wall even.

Previously in February 2017, ‘The Steeple Times’ featured the sale of a far grander residence in Caernarfon, The Old Court House, at a price reduced from £650,000 to just £525,000. The building’s then owner, an English property developer named Aaron Hill, told ‘Wales Online’ he was selling after “vandals had smashed his windows 46 times, daubed graffiti across doors, attacked his car and urinated through his letterbox.” He told the paper “he had reported about 26 incidents to North Wales Police and remarked: ‘They said: ‘You need to f**k off where you belong. We don’t want you here. We’ll burn the place down.’” The building was subsequently converted into a bar, bistro, restaurant and event venue in 2018.

In June 2014, ‘The Steeple Times’ featured another property once sold for £1, the Grade I listed Palladian gem Barlaston Hall in Staffordshire. It was saved from near collapse in 1981 by former ‘Country Life’ editor Marcus Binney and sold on for £300,000in 1992 and offered for sale again in 2014 for £2.3 million after renovations were completed. After its asking price was reduced to £2 million, it subsequently sold for £2 million through agents Fisher German in April 2019.

In the very same article in June 2014 in ‘The Steeple Times,’ we also included another £1 property, Old Whitehall House in Chirnside, Berwickshire, Scotland. Derelict since 2007, this B-listed Georgian mansion required at least £1.2 million spent on its refurbishment, but came complete with an ornate music room decorated in Italian plasterwork and 7 bedrooms.
