Trenton Oldfield will only ever be remembered for one thing: wrecking the 2012 Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. Ahead of today’s race, this “activist”tweeted us to complain that we were “a little obsessed” with him. We can confirm that we are not in the slightest bit interested in his activities and have not even featured him once on our pages since 27th April 2012. (more…)
They may have got lucky on the EuroMillions when they won £101 million, but didn’t have much luck after. Mrs Dawes sadly got cancer, the couple fell victim to a hoax email scam and though they moved from a scruffy £70 per week rented flat in Wisbech to a flat in Chelsea Harbour to be close to Mr Dawes’ beloved Chelsea Football Club, their marriage ended in tears and an ex-husband came out of the woodwork to reveal a tale of debts and a disowned son. Mr Dawes rather appropriately has “HATE” tattooed on his knuckles. What a pair.
This rising star of the Labour Party entered the House of Commons in May 2010. Nicknamed “St. Ella” and referred to as “Labour’s most interesting Member of Parliament” by ConservativeHome, Creasy is widely tipped as a future leader and lauded for valiantly standing up to the “morons” who attacked her on Twitter. A Cambridge and LSE graduate who was formerly head of public affairs for the Scout Association, here is a bold lady who has also taken on the scourge of society that are payday lenders.
August is the time when newsrooms run out of things to say. With half the country on holiday and Parliament in recess, it’s the time of year when journalists write stories that range from the bizarre to the ridiculous. (more…)
“If you want news, listen to the radio; if you want sex, read the newspapers” is amongst the many classic quotes from this Conservative peer. A land girl, a Bletchley Park codebreaker, Mayor of Cambridge, an agriculture minister, and now a Baroness, Trumpington famously stuck two fingers up at Lord King of Bridgwater after he called her “pretty old” during a debate. Of the reaction to that, she commented: “It was entirely between him and me – I thought. I wasn’t conscious of there being television [cameras there]… His family says he is famous now”. Of getting older, she added: “Other people’s opinions matter less – unless they’re medical”. On Desert Island Discs in 1990 she chose the Crown Jewels as her luxury item as she said it would maximise her chances of being rescued. A most practical lady and a true national treasure.
Cambridge County Council create Britain’s shortest set of double yellow lines
A Liberal Democrat councilor named Damien Tunnacliffe has to be the most idiotic person we’ve come across this week and an image of him beaming proudly with Britain’s shortest set of double yellow lines just had to be our picture of the week.
Councillor Damien Tunnacliffe with Britain’s shortest double yellow lines in Humberstone Road, West Chesterton, CambridgeThe two sets of double yellow lines are each 33cm in length
The double yellow lines on Humberstone Road in Cambridge are 33cm in length and parking on either of them will result in a fine of £70. Of them, a resident of the street, Liz Hazell, told the Mail Online:
“It’s the craziest set of double yellow lines I have ever seen. It just defies logic as to why they bothered painting them on the road”.
A former mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Rob Dryden added:
“Perhaps a toy car could park there, but nothing else could”.
Meanwhile, Mr Tunnacliffe bizarrely stated that he was “tickled pink” with the “quirky” lines. In their praise, he stated:
“Cambridge has a reputation for breaking records and this is another one. We’re claiming it as a record for the shortest double yellows until we’re told otherwise… I think they’re cute and could be on the tourist trail. We should get the blue badge tour guides onto it”.
Elsewhere, a biography of the councillor reveals that he wishes to encourage closer cooperation between Cambridge and France in his role as head of the Alliance Française de Cambridge. No doubt Mr Tunnacliffe will be getting a call of congratulation from tax loving President Hollande shortly.
In 2013, this Danish-British former Liberal Democrat author and presenter stated: “The Duchess of Cambridge lacks a single [relevant] opinion”. The nation were far from impressed. “Toxic Toksvig”, as some refer to her, is a Cambridge educated lesbian and mother of three whose works number Hitler’s Canary and Heroines & Harridans. She started her career on the appropriately named Motormouth and once stated: “When I see comedian – and ‘comedienne’, of course I hate it – I think ‘Oh, really?’ because I think of myself as a writer and broadcaster”. Miaow!
Social yet serious, this talented Cambridge graduate is now the UK youth advisor for the World Council of Peoples for the United Nations in the UK. (more…)
