‘Cotswold style’ mansion dramatically reduced in price after 14 years on the market

Americans love all things British and they especially love to replicate our architecture. In the Northern Californian town of Hillsborough, a fine example is a 35,000 square foot mansion named The Tobin Clark Estate. (more…)

Ken Livingstone should honour his promise

When Ken Livingstone lost for a second time to Boris Johnson May 2012, he announced “this will be my last election” and signaled that he might quietly disappear from frontline politics.

Sadly, he’s plainly reassessed the idea and today caused great offence with comments made on the Iranian television channel Press TV about the motives of the Boston bombers. (more…)

    Jeremy Blake and Theresa Duncan (1971 – 2007 and 1966 – 2007)

Blake and DuncanTheir story is a modern day equivalent of that of Romeo and Juliet and Vanity Fair chronicled their deaths as The Golden Suicides. “Handsome” Blake, a digital artist and painter who worked with Malcolm McLaren and Fox Searchlight, and “sexy” Duncan, a writer, game designer and filmmaker best known for the “girl-centric” game Chop Suey, were the toast of New York but became obsessed with those they felt threatened them and their works. Personally wounded by a rejection from the post-modern rocker Beck to work with her on making a film out of one of her scripts, Duncan blamed his church, the Church of Scientology, and stated: “They are furious because he valued our way of life far more than Celebrity Center sex trash”. As more rejections came, this talented pair who “supported one another totally” became more and more irrational and in July 2007, a week apart, both committed suicide.

This financier’s foreign exchange dealership, Interexchange, is the biggest in Switzerland and betting against the dollar has brought much success. He supposedly even named his Gulfstream G650 “George” as “ultimately it was Bush who paid for it.” Whilst Schwarzenbach’s Grand Hotel Dolder in Zurich wins plaudits galore. an investment in Mayfair’s Café Grand Prix was less successful. It is, however, for philanthropy and discretion that Schwarzenbach and his wife, a former Miss Australia, are known best.

George W. does a mean Dr. Evil impression

George W. Bush is a man who most of our readership no doubt loathe. Most people know that I take an utterly different view and like the historian Andrew Roberts believe that history will remember him and Tony Blair far more favourably.

Our video of the week, discovered on the Facebook page of Gavriel Merkado, is illustrative of George W.’s humour. I hope it will make you laugh.
