She is best known for having won a BAFTA for her role in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence in 1993 but is famous to younger audiences for having appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows. A dual British-Australian citizen and humanitarian advocate, Oxford born Margolyes also played the self-made cosmetics billionairess Helena Rubinstein in 2017 and lives with her partner, Heather Sutherland, in London, Tuscany and New South Wales.

Oslo born, San Francisco based interior designer and philanthropist Charlot D. Malin had a day named in her honour by The City and County of San Francisco in November 2016. A mother of twins and the co-founder of Troon Pacific Inc. with her husband Gregory, “forward-thinking” Malin worked on properties for George Lucas and Robert Redford and supported everything from the San Francisco Opera Guild to the Voss Foundation. She considered “health the ultimate luxury” and loathed microwave ovens.

Jan Harvey
Penzance born actress Jan Harvey is married to her Howards’ Way co-star Stephen Yardley. She played Jan Howard in the popular series that depicted Thatcherite, nouveau riche excess from 1985 to 1990, has also appeared in Inspector Morse and Lovejoy and was pushed off a balcony to her death in Eastenders in 2016. In 2013, she suggested the wealthy yachting drama should be remade as “it could show all the problems of the young rich”.

Baba Vanga (баба Ванга, AKA ‘Nostradamus from the Balkans’, 1911 – 1996)
This blind, illiterate, psychic Macedonian villager predicted everything from 9/11 – in suggesting that “the American brethren would be attacked by two steel birds” in 2001 many years earlier in 1989 – to an African-American being the 44th US President. Baba Vanga got it right on the “great Muslim war” that started with the Arab Spring in 2010 and claimed it would “come to a conclusion in 2043 with the establishment of a caliphate with Rome at its centre”. She supposedly found her power after “losing her eyesight during a storm when she was picked up in a fierce gust of wind and dumped back down on the ground” and looking further into the future, the clairvoyant claimed that everything on earth will die by 3797 and aliens will help civilisations live underwater by 2130. Tellingly, she also predicted: “An economic crisis will prevent the 45th President from taking office”. Anyone care to break this news to ‘The Donald’?

Jean Alexander (born Jean Alexander Hodgkinson, 1926 – 2016)
This Liverpudlian actress “preferred cats to men”. Best known for playing Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street from 1964 to 1987, Jean Alexander also appeared in Last of the Summer Wine, Heartbeat and Where the Heart Is. Whilst she didn’t believe in sex before marriage, never felt maternal and thought she’d had a “lucky escape” in never falling in love, Alexander was truly adored by many. This national treasure said her final “ta-ra chuck” in October 2016.
