Princess Yasmin Aga Khan
The twice married daughter of the actress Rita Heyworth and Prince Aly Khan was married to the Greek economist and shipping heir Basil Embiricos between 1985 and 1987. Princess Yasmin Aga Khan was born in Lausanne, Switzerland and educated in Massachusetts and Geneva. She has become renowned for raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease through her annual Rita Heyworth Gala in New York and since she began the event in 1983, she has raised over $61 million (£37.2 million). Princess Yasmin Aga Khan’s son, Andrew Embiricos, tragically committed suicide in December 2011. -
Joanne Coburn (AKA “Jo” Coburn)
The BBC’s Jo Coburn is one of the presenters of the Daily Politics. This experienced London based political sage has some 7,000 followers on Twitter and was educated at the University of Manchester and the University of Oxford. She began her career in community radio and hopes to end it as “a foreign correspondent either in Jerusalem or Berlin”. -
Eli Wallach (1915 – 2014)
One of the finest ever “method actors”, Eli Wallach was a star of the stage and screen between 1945 and 2010 and once had to ask the director John Hutson for advice on how to play a drunk because he was a strict teetotaler. Brooklyn born and the son of a sweet shop owner, Wallach once stated: “The big secret in acting is listening to people” and added: “As an actor I’ve played more bandits, thieves, warlords, molesters and mafioso than you could shake a stick at”. In his final big screen appearance as Julius Steinhardt in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps in 2010, he used “ominous whistling” when he forgot his lines. -

His 80th birthday party in 2013 was attended by 2,500 of his closest friends. -
Miriam O’Reilly
This Irish writer, journalist and presenter describes herself as having “fought ageism at the BBC and won”. Miriam O’Reilly is best known as a BBC Countryfile presenter but successfully sued the Corporation after being dropped in 2009. She subsequently returned to front the Crimewatch Roadshow with Rav Wilding before attempting and failing to become a Labour Party candidate for first Nuneaton in 2013 and then Heywood and Middleton in 2014. Closely linked to Labour’s Harriet Harman, those that take O’Reilly on should be warned that she’ll likely take to Twitter to exact her revenge. -

Scotland has taken the right decision
Yesterday the Scottish came out in force and voted ‘no’ to independence. Though the ‘Better Together’ campaign’s win is by a relatively small margin and though their campaign was poorly orchestrated, it is a victory nonetheless and we should all celebrate the common sense of this decision. (more…)

Julia Bradbury
Nicknamed “the walking man’s crumpet”, Dublin born, Rutland based television presenter Julia Bradbury has over 50,000 followers on Twitter. She fronted the BBC’s Countryfile for five years and has also presented shows such as Kill It, Cook It, Eat It and Take on the Twisters. Bradbury views the late fell walker Alfred Wainwright to be a “walking God” and once told Hello! that she feels “no pressure to look younger”.
