    Today, after a second day this week finishing 99% up for our racing followers on email with a 1st for Majaam at 4/1 (£5 to £17), a 4th for International Law at 8/1, a 3rd for Socru at 11/2 and a 1st for Crazy Spin at 12/1 (£5 to £41) yesterday, we are looking at EACH WAY BETS in The Classic Chase 2021 at Warwick.

     

    3pm Warwick – The Classic Chase 2021 (13 runners, 4 places with Ladbrokes ‘The Grid’)

     

    The Classic Chase 2021 is a Grade 3 National Hunt steeplechase that is open to horses aged 5 years or older. It runs over a distance of 3 miles and 5 furlongs and features 22 fences.

     

    Last year’s winner was Kimberlite Candy for Tom Lacey and in 2017, it was won by another favourite horse of ours, the Lucinda Russell trained One For Arthur.

     

    Today in The Classic Chase 2021, we are favouring a punt on another old favourite, Twiston-Davies double The Hollow Ginge at 13/1 from 20/1 earlier (Racing Post ‘Ace Tipster’, At The Races ’Top Tip’)

    Callum Jamieson for The Sun says: “We return to an old friend, The Hollow Ginge, who I actually fancied to go well in the Welsh National at Chepstow last weekend.”

     

    “He was kept in the rear much of the way before unseating jockey Jamie Bargary at the 13th fence. That race shouldn’t have taken too much out of him and he’s now been found a much easier spot.”

     

    “On top of that, he’s trading around a 16-1 poke at the time of writing –a similar price to the one he has chalked up at originally last week. He’s been dropped another pound, but the booking of Sam Twiston-Davies catches the eye more than the minimal lenience offered by the handicapper.”

     

    “Twiston-Davies has partnered the horse to three of his four wins and this has to signal some form of intent He gets in off a perfect racing weight of 10’9, largely thanks to stablemate Ballyoptic heading the weights at a whopping 11’12. All the same positives apply from last week. Plenty of rain is forecast and conditions should suit. His fourth in the Ladbrokes Trophy remains a rock-solid piece of form and showed a step up in trip and further emphasis will be right up his street.”

     

    “The bet has to be The Hollow Ginge at big odds. He looks a cracking each-way poke in an open race.”

     

    At The Races adds: “A chance is taken with THE HOLLOW GINGE in the Classic Chase 2021. He was creeping into contention when unseating his rider in the Welsh National last Saturday and he is able to race off a 1lb lower mark on this occasion.”

     

    Racing Post says: “Fourth in major handicap at Newbury in November, his sole completion this season.”

     

    Keith Rose for Racing Post adds: “A marathon trip and deep ground look right up his street. Can improve on his Ladbrokes Trophy fourth.”

    The Sun says: “Impressive at Bangor on comeback and should stay this far… He has every chance after taking a big step forward at Bangor last time. He relished the heavy ground at the Welsh track and had plenty left in the tank at the end of three miles. The handicapper hasn’t gone mad with a 7lb rise and he looks a real marathon runner in the Classic Chase 2021.”

     

    Racing Post adds: “Progressive sort; won useful handicap at Bangor in November; should have more to offer.”

    Racing Post says: “The 2019 NH Chase winner LE BREUIL (nap) is taken to beat the improving Notachance… Had wind surgery since his third in the Becher Chase; this may well be his time to shine.”

     

    At The Races adds: “Le Breuil shaped well for a long way when third in the Becher Chase at Aintree and a wind operation is likely to aid his cause with connections needing a victory to ensure him every chance of making the Grand National line-up.”

     

    Richard Austen for Racing Post adds: “Bravely won the 2019 National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham and remains the type to win a big staying handicap, for all that he’s 0-6 since. Had wind surgery since finishing third in the Becher Chase six weeks ago and runs off a handy mark, so this may well be his time to shine.”

    “Second to a good horse in Allart at Ascot last time, he just lacked the winner’s extra gear that day but it was another good run over an intermediate trip and he can improve going up to three miles at this track.”

     

    “Jonjo O’Neill Jr should be able to dominate on the front end and make the most of the 5lb he receives from Next Destination, as well as his extra experience (has had four chasing starts already) which could prove vital.”

     

    Racing Post adds: “FIDDLERONTHEROOF who, strictly speaking, has the best chance at the weights… Solid chase record, albeit over shorter trips; has a good chance on ratings.”

     

    At The Races less enthusiastic: “Fiddlerontheroof is best treated at these weights but looks second best.”

    Racing Post says: “With the emphasis on stamina, GRANGEE, representing last year’s winning trainer Willie Mullins, is preferred to Eileendover… Won in a big field at Galway and seems sure to go well for last year’s winning trainer.”

    Hero of the Hour 2021 – ‘Miracle Man’ Brian Toomey

    Jockey who “died for six seconds” in 2013 Brian Toomey set to make a remarkable return to racing as a trainer in 2021

    Given only a 3% chance of survival after falling from his mount Solway Dandy “with such force that he was left clinically dead for six seconds before being resuscitated on course” at Perth in 2013, jockey Brian Toomey revealed to The Sun yesterday that he intends to become a trainer in 2021.

     

    Mistakenly declared dead by the British Horseracing Authority after the fall three flights from the finish, Toomey was put in an induced coma and had part of his skull removed to make way for a titanium plate.

     

    Though nicknamed the ‘Miracle Man’ after remarkably returning to the track after regaining his jockey licence in 2015, his comeback was short-lived as few “trainers were willing to give him rides over concerns for his welfare in the event of another fall.”

     

    Speaking to the paper yesterday, Brian Toomey remarked:

     

    “I’m always going to be known as the ex-jockey with the injury but I want to be known for my hard work and my racing mind – rather than a broken brain.”

     

    “I had a titanium plate put in my head. It doesn’t stop me doing anything – apart from being a professional sportsman – but I have been very lucky.”

     

    “I was put in an induced coma. I had to have part of my skull removed. I shouldn’t be alive and I feel lucky to have made the recovery I have.”

     

    “What I’m going through now is not very tough but it’s frustrating how long it’s taking for a dream to come true.”

     

    “My bank balance isn’t where it should be – as a jockey you drive round in flashy cars like a footballer – I would have been more mature if I thought the second part of my career was going to come this soon. But I’m keen to get started.”

     

    “I have been assistant trainer to Dr Richard Newland and learned a lot, but now actions must speak louder than words. I want to do it and prove to people I can do it.

     

    “Back when I spoke about becoming a trainer for the first time I was still feeling sorry for myself. I wasn’t as focused as I wanted to be. I am way more focused and mature now.”

     

    “I have been on every TV show bar Jeremy Kyle feeling sorry for myself. I’ve only got one life left now and I’m focused on it. I have a dreaBm to sell. Before when I was talking about going into training it was a case of ‘what if’… I never had an idea. Now, I have an idea.”

     

    “It’s hard to sell the dream to owners now because they’re not even allowed to go the races due to the pandemic. But if you are focused and being a realist, you have more of a chance.”

     

    “The guys I have learned from, Clive Cox and John Francome are legends, but they started out just like me.”

     

    “Obviously you need luck but I’m now more focused and have more of a chance. When I do find a small yard where I can make a start… in my mind you get one chance at this and I want to have everything right and give it my best shot.”

    For once, the normally “condescending cow” Karren Brady got it right in supporting the tremendous jockey Hollie Doyle to become BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020

    “Appalling role model” Lady Brady of Knightsbridge CBE (AKA ‘Lazy Brady’ and ‘The Overpainted Aunt Sally’) can normally be relied upon on a Sunday to pen a toxic column for The Sun in which she savagely slams people she has utterly no knowledge of. Today, she actually, unpredictably, did something decent for a change and saluted the shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 nominee, jockey Hollie Doyle.

     

    In an unusually pleasant opinion piece, Karren Brady remarked of 24-year-old Doyle, “[she] gives hope for women’s sport” and added of the ‘Female Frankie’:

     

    “Hollie Doyle reminds us that something positive is happening with women’s sport. The playing field is levelling… [She] is an emblem of hope for all sportswomen… A symbol of positive change – of women succeeding and being taken seriously in sport. As positive omens for the year ahead go, I’ll take it.”

     

    Hollie Doyle’s remarkable achievements in her “whirlwind” 2020 number:

     

    • Women’s British record holder for wins in a calendar year.
    • First Royal Ascot winner with Scarlet Dragon in the Duke of Edinburgh.
    • Winner of over £1.7 million in prize money in 2020.
    • Record-breaking first woman to win five races on a card at Windsor.
    • Broke her British record in October after 117th winner and is closing in on 150 wins this year in total.
    • First woman to win at the QIOCO British Champions Day at Ascot.

     

    Speaking to Sportsmail, Doyle, herself, modestly remarked of her nomination alongside Lewis Hamilton and Tyson Fury and commented:

     

    “I was quite amused by it – I just didn’t believe it – it’s crazy.”

     

    “When you’re younger and you’re growing up you have these ambitions in your brain but this year when we were delayed with the whole season because of Covid I just wrote it off but I just can’t believe it really.”

     

    “I just take it as it comes but I rode over 100 winners last year for the first time and I really wanted to back that up so it wasn’t a one off. “

     

    “With the delay I thought whatever I do this year, however many winners I have is a bonus under the circumstances. It’s been pretty crazy, I never thought it would have been this good.”

     

    “I don’t even see this for me personally. I hope to just represent the industry as a whole and I hope it can open doors and showcase the sport to a broader audience.”

     

    “I just want to better myself every year and I realise how hard it’s going to be after this year. But I don’t want this to be the best year of my life. I want to do better.”

     

    Elsewhere, trainer William Haggas summed up the mood of the nation most accurately with a simple sentence: “There is none who deserves this success more than Hollie.”

    As the public quite rightly rubbish a disgraceful ‘Mail on Sunday’ diatribe against the campaigning footballer Marcus Rashford, he responds with dignity and launches a book club

    Two days ago, The Mail on Sunday’s Andy Buckwell and Max Aitchison launched what was this morning termed “a sinister attack on a young black man” by Jonathan Liew in the Guardian.

     

    In their frankly completely irrelevant and unnecessary diatribe, Buckwell and Aitchison banged on about how the school meal campaigning footballer Marcus Rashford MBE had bought “five luxury homes” with mortgages “from the Queen’s bank, Coutts.”

     

    Pointedly, aside from these perfectly legitimate buy-to-let investments, the pair trivially carped on about Rashford trademarking his name in the US and quite rightly of this Liew responded: “Virtually none of this is really anyone’s business.”

     

    Aside from the fact that Rashford has done nothing illegal, one would have thought The Mail on Sunday could have put their resources to use instead to investigate the allegations of huge tax avoidance against the House of Commons Leader, Jacob Rees-Mogg.

     

    Given that one Maureen Fitzsimmons’ tweet about that has been liked by 22,200 individuals and retweeted 7,900 times, one could suggest that newsworthy, but since Rees-Mogg’s activities are not much different to those of the Mail’s very own proprietor Viscount Rothermere’s very own tax affairs, they wouldn’t be wanting to touch that with a barge pole.

     

    Elsewhere this morning, humble and decent Marcus Rashford – whom responded to the Buckwell and Aitchison jamboree by quite rightly stating: “Ok, so let’s address this. I’m 23. I came from little. I need to protect not just my future but my family’s too. To do that I made a decision at the beg [SIC] of 2020 to start investing more in property. Please don’t run stories like this alongside refs to ‘campaigning.’” – announced plans to launch a book club. Unsurprisingly, the Mail showed very little interest in that.

    Reprehensible “driller killer” dentist Walter Palmer will forever be remembered for slaying ‘Cecil The Lion’; the sexual harasser of his own employees has now gone and done it again – this time the monster massacred an endangered ram

    Last month, we featured the story of a female manufacturer of undercrackers emblazoned with Donald Trump’s name who takes ‘pleasure’ in slaying bears. Social media junkie and hideous horror Priscilla Magana unsurprisingly outraged with her antics, whilst previously, her twisted ‘bestie,’ the shover-of-sex-toys-up-the-bums-of-sheep Larysa Switlyk, repeatedly did the same after we named and shamed her on these pages.

     

    Now, an even viler example of barbarity has unbelievably returned to public attention in the form of Eden Prairie, near Minneapolis based Dr Walter Palmer, proprietor of River Bluff Dental. You will likely recall him as the degenerate dentist responsible for luring ‘Cecil The Lion’ to his death with the corpse of an elephant he’d also massacred in July 2015 in Hawagne District, Zimbabwe.

     

    “Enjoyer of all outdoor activities” Palmer – a cretin who ‘kills’ his ‘prey’ with a bow and arrow rather than a rifle and someone whom deservedly became internationally loathed after having not orchestrated a “clean kill” on Cecil (whom tragically had to then be shot with a bullet 12 hours later after suffering immeasurable pain) – featured in the Mirror this morning after being snapped with a sheep he’d shot. This pointless Porsche driving pillock’s face supposedly “turned to anger” when confronted by a representative of the paper outside a bar in Bloomington, Minnesota about his having killed an endangered argali ram – a “species in danger of extinction.”

     

    Plainly as delusional and deranged now as he was five years ago, Dr Walter Palmer – whom was forced to attend a course in ethics after paying out £100,000 in a sexual harassment case in 2009 – travelled to Mongolia for his latest ‘escapade’ as “the ram was on his list of hunts he wanted complete” said an “insider.” His travel companion, Brent Sinclair, then took to Facebook after the trip and disgustingly celebrated what they had done. Without naming his feckless ‘friend,’ he casually commented:

     

    “Another great adventure has come and gone, one to be put in the memory book for sure. Just back from Mongolia, and it’s almost like it was only a dream. We saw rams every day and climbed around the hills in the Altai region getting as close as 20 yards one day to sheep bigger than I could imagine.”

     

    “Sheep hunting isn’t sheep hunting without a midday nap in the sun on a mountain side, but its [sic] hard to relax and count sheep when all you can see through the scope are horns on rams bedded 200 yards away that carry twice the mass I have ever seen on sheep here in North America.”

     

    “I’ve felt my heart beat in my ears when an 8000 lb+ bull elephant looked down his trunk at us as we stood in the thorn brush a mere 31 yards from those tusks and all you had was a bow in your hand… You drew back those 95 limbs and I thought to myself theres [sic] now way it’s going to do the job of harvesting that massive bull, but you placed the arrow perfect and the rest is history. This may however be the one that will be at the top of the pinnacle and hard to beat.”

     

    “The Altai Argali of Mongolia is the largest of the worlds wild sheep and humbling is the only word one can use when you walk up to a ram like this for the first time… Thanks Amigo for the adventure… Look forward to our next one.”

     

    After outrage over Palmer’s actions in 2015 resulted in him quite deservedly receiving death threats, Cecil’s head and skin was given to police in Zimbabwe. In the wake of his latest antics, we wouldn’t be surprised if members of the public now demand that this twisted monster have his very own teeth pulled out; we couldn’t think of a better fate for the monster that is Dr Walter Palmer.

    A “sickened citizen,” whom submitted information about this lunatic to The Steeple Times by email, remarked:

    As groom-rider Abdul Musa Adam leads out Shadn at Royal Ascot today, he will inspire many on the eve of World Refugee Day and illustrate the positives of welcoming child refugees

    Described as a “remarkable young man” by Racing TV’s Nick Luck in February, Abdulkareem Musa Adam was raised by a tribe of nomads in Darfur. When he was just 7 years old, the Sudanese army killed his entire family and burnt his home to the ground, but now, this afternoon, this groom-rider will lead out Shadn at Royal Ascot for the Commonwealth Cup.

     

    After escaping by donkey with his 3-year old brother Yusuf, the pair survived refugee camps in Chad and then in Libya, he tried to find work aged 12. Parted from his sole surviving relative, he was captured by Colonel Gadaffi’s forces and after refusing to join his ‘child army,’ was imprisoned and tortured.

     

    Next, after a ‘Guardian Angel’ Russian doctor helped him by disguising him as a hospital cleaner and smuggled him out via a bin and in the boot of a car, Musa Adam travelled to France aged 13. He thought he would be safe there, but ended up sleeping in industrial bins to keep warm. With no identification papers, this teenage refugee struggled for 18 months, but after being discovered by a man in a church named Antonio was not only fed tuna sandwiches daily, but also given hope for the future. Antonio ultimately helped Musa Adam in his successful attempt to smuggle himself to Britain in the wheel arch of a lorry.

     

    Believing he was going to “England [a place that] means peaceful, you can study, you can improve your life,” the youngster spent what must have been a terrifying 15 hours in the most perilous of conditions. He totally randomly ended up “dumped at a petrol station” near Swindon in Wiltshire and was picked up by the police.

     

    Here, granted asylum as a refugee and with the help of Social Services and then Greatwood, “a charity which uses horses to help young people facing difficulties and challenges,” Musa Adam was provided with assistance and ultimately a foster home. His “childhood passion for horses” was reignited whilst recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder and a “most remarkable journey in sport” commenced.

     

    Musa Adam spent time with Niki Evans in Abergavenny and attended the Northern Racing College in Doncaster in 2016 subsequently. He progressed to a full-time job as a stable lad with Andrew Balding at his Kingsclere Park House Stables yard and amazingly won the ‘Young Achiever’ at the Mirror’s ‘Pride of Sport Awards’ in 2016.

     

    Referencing the “friend” whom she has “been writing a book together [with] for three years,” in the Mirror this morning, journalist Ros Wynne-Jones declared: “[Abdul Musa Adam] couldn’t be a better example of what safety and kindness can give to a human being who has escaped war, torture and ­trafficking after becoming a refugee at the age of eight. Britain is lucky to have him, and he is grateful to have a safe home.”

     

    Speaking of him also, racing legend Clare Balding added: “His story shows the incredible power of sport to bring people together and help them to heal, even after the most appalling suffering.”

     

    Hardworking Abdul Musa Adam – who is now a British citizen and whose day begins at 6am and finishes at midnight – himself concludes:

     

    “Racing, riding, horses… After more riding, I feel more happy… I am so grateful I have found safety… I feel that this is my home now. I believe I can find [my brother] one day; I hope, I can.”

     

    Now and still only 22 years old, today horse loving Abdul Musa Adam’s spectacular journey will continue when he leads out Shadn at Royal Ascot. We join all celebrating his remarkable progress to the paddocks of Royal Ascot.

    In his humble response to his first win after 38 years of racing at Royal Ascot, winning groom Bob Grace provided much needed cheer to racing fans everywhere along with his trusty companion Battaash

    Prior to setting off to Royal Ascot yesterday, groom Bob Grace remarked: “Never done a winner in 38 years at Royal Ascot, I think I’ve got a jinx on the place… If I haven’t got a winner tomorrow, I won’t be back there. At least I’ll have the mask on, so no one will know it is me.”

     

    Thankfully for ‘Big Bob’s’ legion of fans, his trusty companion Battaash pulled it off. After romping home first in the King’s Stand Stakes as the 5/6 favourite – seeing off both Equilateral and Liberty Beach – for trainer Charlie Hills, the two stars of the day got to celebrate live on the telly.

     

    Speaking to ITV1’s Matt Chapman – who lightheartedly quipped “you’re not a typically sized stable lad Bob” much to the amusement of the groom – Grace surmised: “He didn’t miss a beat. He was on his A game… He hasn’t done badly in two tries, three tries before today… Nearly as good as [Bristol Rovers] getting promotion.”

     

    One Twitter user responded: “Loved the way he just wanted to get off and be with his horse” whilst another concluded: “Bob is wonderful, be like Bob.”

     

    It was all “B’s for Bob” yesterday and no doubt he and Battaash celebrated with many a beer last night.

    Lauded as the “wonder horse who can bring some joy back to a nation starved of sport” by the Daily Mail’s Marcus Townend, “pugnacious colt” Pinatubo is the Godolphin horse that will likely delight at the “first major sporting event in Britain” in months, the 2,000 Guineas on Saturday at Newmarket. Ridden by William Buick and the 10/11 favourite, here is a horse that is “hard to oppose” on the Rowley Mile.

     

    Sadly but sensibly being held “behind closed doors,” the race – which ITV’s anchor Ed Chamberlain suggests “will have a larger audience than any recent 2,000 Guineas with people desperate for sport” – the “second best in the field” according to the Mirror is the Oisin Murphy – Andrew Balding combo Kameko at 7/1. Of this Qatar Racing owned beauty, Sporting Life’s Simon Holt remarks: “A formidable rival… Should see this out strongly with the promise that he may stay a mile and a quarter.”

     

    Taking a bit more of a punt, we at The Steeple Times, however, would also suggest (excuse the pun) raising a glass to an each way on the Sean Levey and Richard Hannon’s Mums Tipple at 33/1. A “runaway winner” at York’s Ebor meeting where he “literally took everybody’s breath away,” the Mirror go as far as suggesting this outsider as having “plenty of pace.”
