This “true romantic” and “Londongrad playboy” is the publisher of The Independent and the Evening Standard and also was involved in setting up the London Live television station. Evgeny Lebedev is the son of a billionaire ex-KGB agent and has been described as “a modern Machiavellian prince” and as having “a penchant for white silk suits”. He is accompanied by a wolfdog named Boris and resides between a “blacked out Belgravia flat” and a 30,000 square foot Umbrian castle that he’s renamed the Castello di Santa Eurasia. He also has co-owns an East End pub, The Grapes in Limehouse’s Narrow Street, with actor Sir Ian McKellen and has over 13,000 followers on Twitter. -

Thai Dang Cao (1953 – 2014)
The eccentric owner of Old Brompton Road’s Nam Long Le Shaker was famed for creating the legendary Flaming Ferrari cocktail. A favourite of the likes of Lord Archer’s son, James, this lethal concoction consists of 100% proof rum, Chartreuse, Grand Marnier and Blue Curaçao. Of them Dang Cao commented: “If you drink three of them you kiss the ground like the Pope”. He occupied a throne-like seat in his establishment yet truly did good through philanthropically funding a school and clinic in Vietnam and of this nightlife legend’s passing, one customer concluded: “He was not a man of many words, but a creator some of my worst life hangovers”. Whilst Nam Long Le Shaker – established in 1987 – has been described as being “a place like no other”; Thai Dang Cao was most certainly “a man like no other”. The longest ever lock-in in the sky has commenced with his arrival. -

This summer Iraqi kick-boxer Riyadh Al-Azzawi has reveled in the attention he’s received as he drove around the streets of Chelsea and Knightsbridge in his gold Ferrari. Despite the £4,000 foil wrap bubbling up and peeling off, the Iraqi kick-boxer cruised around thinking he was the King of the Hill. His reign is over as now the mantle for London’s most gaudy car has been stolen by a gold and black Bugatti Veyron. (more…)
