    “I’m sorry I still love him” unabashedly declared author, journalist and “stationary addict” Susie Steiner of Tony Blair on Twitter during the coronavirus lockdown whilst amusingly adding of Boris Johnson: “If only I could retreat to Chequers.” Registered fully blind and a mother of two, this former Guardian commissioning editor did a “little one-page feature, showing the ‘Keep Calm’ poster as one of her favourite things” in 2005. “After that, all hell broke loose,” according to Stuart Manley, co-owner of Barter Books of Alnwick, and what Steiner terms a “message of stoicism and patience” went viral. She thinks “it’s had its day now” and after publishing her first novel, Homecoming, in 2013, this West Hampstead based Londoner signed “significant six-figure” deals for her subsequent works. “Susie is a joy to publish” remarked Suzie Dooré of Borough Press, whilst she herself gave away the secret to her much deserved success in a 2016 interview with The Hampstead & Highgate Express: “I’m very disciplined about my work… The daily-ness is what matters; it’s being in contact with it all the time that keeps the work alive in your mind. Your mind is doing it even when your trogging up the hill from school or waiting in the hairdressers. It fingers it like a pebble in your pocket.”

    Detroit born singer-songwriter Mike Posner became best known after the remixed version of I Took A Pill In Ibiza went viral. Whilst that single has been liked over 5.6 million times on YouTube, gathered over a billion streams on Spotify and peaked in the top 10 on the charts in 27 countries, Posner’s other claim to fame is that he walked 2,851 miles coast to coast across America in 2019. This Bernie Sanders supporting, Duke University graduate cites The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger as one of the books that has “impacted [his] life the most” and dyed his hair green when he joined a band named Mansionz; before he dies, he claims to want to work as a hospice chaplain, go to outer space and take his ‘mom’ to Namibia.

    Waitrose Belgravia respond to ‘The Steeple Times’s’ expose of their not selling Royal British Legion poppies and allow them into their store

     

    After The Steeple Times reported on various high street retailers in Belgravia, Chelsea, Fulham and Knightsbridge not selling Royal British Legion poppies, our story went viral.

     

    Shared on Twitter by countless individuals – including the radio and television presenter Matthew Wright – we can now report that Waitrose Belgravia (the store where our editor was told: “We do not condone war so do not sell poppies. It is against our company policy.”) have caved in.

     

    In a tweet received Saturday, the firm announced:

     

    “We had a poppy seller at the shop yesterday who will be returning Monday. We looked after her with a hot drink and treated her to lunch and are really looking forward to seeing her again next week – she did a fab job on a brisk autumn day!”

     

    Aside from their rightful climb down, we would suggest Waitrose Belgravia make up for their transgression with a more substantial gesture. We call upon the store’s management to give a donation to the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal and we also urge our readers to buy a poppy and wear it with pride.

    Refugee Mohamed Elbarkey could not get a job; he did not give up and took enterprising action to try to get work

     

    Mohamed Elbarkey came to Britain as a refugee from Libya. He worked hard and got degrees from the University of Southampton and University College London yet still could not get a job in finance.

     

    After having sent out 70 CVs without success, 22-year-old Elbarkey decided to stand outside Canary Wharf tube station with a sign pleading for work. Whilst there, he encountered Mary Engleheart – a digital manager at the International Rescue Committee and having heard his story she decided to share it with her Twitter followers.

     

    Elbarkey’s stunt subsequently went viral and aside from being shared by the former Labour politician David Miliband, the hashtag #GetMohamedAJob attracted press attention internationally. In comments to the Evening Standard last week, Elbarkey remarked:

     

    “I found this young man, David, he did the same stunt in Silicon Valley. He wanted a job in technology and what better place. I found that he had over 200 job offers and I thought I only need one.”

     

    “Why don’t I try and see if my story resonates with these executives at these large financial firms and see if they wanted to take me under their wing, even offer me an internship and a job or genuinely just some advice.”

    What first attracted ‘Hot Felon’ Jeremy Meeks to the daughter of the billionaire ‘Sir Shifty’ Philip Green?

     

    One could argue the criminal Jeremy Meeks hit the jackpot when his mugshot went viral and a modeling career as the ‘Hot Felon’ ensued. Not only did he achieve such, but one could argue he had a double whammy next when he struck gold and acquired the daughter of the much loathed billionaire ‘Sir Shifty’ Philip Green as his ‘girlfriend.’

     

    Meeks, however, if what he allegedly said to the Mail on Sunday’s Charlotte Griffiths is true, plainly thinks to the contrary given he supposedly commented:

     

    “The third time we met, designer Philipp Plein threw a dinner for me and Chloe [Green] was there. I didn’t put her on the guest list and I still don’t know who invited her but I am happy she was there, and after that we fell in love.”

     

    Accompanying the article on the Mail Online’s site yesterday was a video of Meeks arriving at an awards ceremony in Monaco with Miss Green and her mother, the pugnacious Lady ‘Don’t Call Me Tina’ Green. In it, whilst Meeks looks at ease in front of the cameras, both Greens career before the flashbulbs and seem nothing but sozzled and out of their depth.

     

    Of this ‘arrangement,’ one can only echo the words of Mrs Merton and ask: “Jeremy, what first attracted you to the daughter of the billionaire Philip Green?”

    Maunsel House is a wedding venue in Somerset. It is owned by the somewhat eccentric Sir Benjamin Slade and to promote it he recently commissioned a promotional video to be made.

     

    Shared on YouTube, the video – the creation of amongst others Charles Mitford-Cust – features a Jack Russell as a driver and two Labradors as bride and groom.

     

    It will undoubtedly make you laugh and as an extra we also include an outtake of the driving dog allegedly crashing the Bentley into a tree.
