  • Korrel Kennedy

    Korrel Kennedy

BARKER KG 120813This sometime catwalk model from Brighton was branded “one of Britain’s worst louts” in 2008 but by 2010 had “turned his life around” according to the Daily Mail. After briefly appearing in the BBC’s Gareth Malone Goes to Glyndebourne and being signed with Elite Models, by 2013 he was in trouble again and locked up in HMP Rochester. The former £63,000 a year zero tolerance special school educated and “perfect mix of handsome, charming and checky [sic]”, Kennedy – who “hasn’t eaten McDonals [sic] in about a year” – stripped to his underpants with cellmate and aggravated burglar Sonny Barker (who then posted the images to Facebook). A prosecutor who warned: “He is the hallmark of a young man who will end up in prison” has been proven right yet his mother claims it’s not her fault as she’s been “let down by every agency”. She added: “I don’t accept that he’s worse than most other kids”. This woman is wrong. Her son is a menace who could do with a stint of hard labour.

  • Charlie Cooper

    Charlie Cooper

Charlie CooperAfter being convicted of stealing £1,500 worth of jewellery from Vandra Henderson of Whitstable, Kent in July 2013, this cleaner took to Facebook to berate a local newspaper who featured an image of him. Claiming his human rights had been breached didn’t win him any sympathy with his mother. In reply, Teresa Cooper wrote: “You should not have done it in the first place… That lady didn’t want her jewlery [sic] taking but you did it anyway, end of”. It is high time a few other parents took just such a stance.

The world is a poorer place in the wake of Sally Bercow losing the libel action brought against her by Lord McAlpine. Those who know me will know that I don’t especially care for the Speaker’s wife or approve of her behaviour, but nonetheless that “the gift that kept on giving” (as some newspapers have referred to her) has been silenced is indeed a shame.

  • Allard Marx: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

Allard Marx: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times asks strategist and businessman Allard Marx: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?

    Caterine Axelsson’s daily smile.

“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?

There is always a way. “How?” not “Why?” should be the guiding principle of our lives.

Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2013?

Is she Eric’s sister? Unchecked greedy bankers. Ignoring the irrefutable damage we are doing to world’s waters and all forms of life.

Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?

The sunshine. I live in London.

What might you swap all your wealth for?

More people’s lives flourishing with their own efforts added. Before that, some wealth to do that with would be wonderful.

Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank”. What’s your view on the banking crisis?

Reducing their profits expectations with some more risk-taking by providing credit to business might help everyone. In other words, replacing the ridiculously high salaries of some executives and high dividends for a few shareholders with liquidity to benefit many.

What phrase or word do you most loathe?

“Yes my friend” from someone I’ve just met and “You awright there?” in shops.

In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home”. What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?

Generosity of spirit wins you “Karma Kredits”. The Going Blue Foundation is a charity I co-founded with Susannah Stewart and Roberto Danovaro and is where the money I don’t have often goes.

The judge in Law Abiding Citizen states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?

Using them out of my earshot.

    Allard Marx
    Allard Marx

If you could fill a carriage on The Orient Express, who would be your fellow passengers?

Caterine Axelsson, Willem Marx, Alex Marx, Harry Langley, Patricia Lukas, Michael Kermer, David Robson, Nick King, Brian Smurthwaite, Luca Sprea, Michelle Cuthbert, David Draier, Diederik van Lede, Irina Kouptcha, Tracy Elner, Filippo Verrone, Marina Capello, Rosalind Milani Gallieni, Peter Kirchem, Richard Hoare, Eduard van Raay, Gisela Söderstrom, Serena Massa, Maggie Wright. Good friends all of them.

If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?

Something tasty, spicy and filling. Kway Teow with vinegar in full view of the blue open sky.

What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?

Whenever suits an individual as long as they keep making sense and don’t fall over.

A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?

A cup of tea. There was a time when a vodka tonic would have taken precedence.

Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?

Weekend parties, with large dining tables in huge kitchens. The ones I had in Byde Mill House in Wiltshire took some beating. Not because of me but because of the space that they were in and the people who came. Good plentiful food is as crucial as the wines.

Who is the most positive person you know?

There are three women I’d say are the most positive people I know. They are Carla Marx-Welter, Caterine Axelsson and Irina Kouptcha.

    What’s your most guilty pleasure?

Dairy-free chocolate ice cream from Snowflake on Westbourne Grove made by ice cream chef Paolo.

If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?

Heaven forbid. Can’t stand the bloody things.

If you were a car, what marque would you be?

A Delfino. Not that I have ambitions of being a car. I have ambitions of returning to that project and making it a success.

Cilla Black presented Surprise, Surprise. Tell us the most surprising thing about you.

I have no clue. I think I’m an open book. You’d have to ask someone who had just met me and then ask them again a month or two later.

What’s currently sitting on your mantelpiece?

    I don’t have one.

Allard Marx is a London based strategist and businessman. He is the author of The Business Brand Book (My Orange Bag) and companies in which he has founded and been involved in include:

Sasha Reid: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times asks author, designer and band manager Sasha Reid: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?

“Anything is possible”. I love knowing that you can take a little idea and create anything out of it. The possibilities are endless.

“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?

    “Kill people with kindness”.

Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2013?

For me, people being cruel to animals is something I find unacceptable. I hate the fact innocent creatures are being killed. We should respect the animal kingdom and allow them to share our precious planet.

Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?

I miss having Christmas with all my family. When I was growing up I was looked after by a nanny.  She wasn’t my granny – she was a proper nanny and had looked after my mum and my uncle when they were little before coming to look after my brothers and me. Our Christmas used to be my mum, dad, 2 brothers and me, nanny and my grandparents.

What might you swap all your wealth for?

Happiness. What is the point of being able to have everything if you can’t be happy?

Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank”. What’s your view on the banking crisis?

I hope my money is safe.

What phrase or word do you most loathe?

    The word “grand”.

In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home”. What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?

I was recently on tour with Kasabian and Jersey Budd who did the Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert Hall. I was inspired to see the good work that the charity does and meet some of the young people who have been helped and hear their stories. I also like to support animal charities.

The judge in Law Abiding Citizen states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?

I think mobiles are great as long as they are used at the right time and place.

    Sasha Reid
    Sasha Reid

If you could fill a carriage on The Orient Express, who would be your fellow passengers?

I would want my mum and brothers (Charlie and Sam), and of course my mum’s little dog, Honeybear. I would also invite the Kasabian guys: Tom, Sergio, Dib, Kealey, Ian and Tim so that I could have great music.

If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?

I hope I would never end up on death row but if I had to choose my last meal it would be risotto, pancakes, chocolate and a banana cupcake from the Chelsea Teapot on the Kings Road. I would want to eat it all on a beautiful beach watching the sunset.

What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?

Anytime: It’s always evening somewhere in the world.

A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?

    A watermelon martini.

Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?

Matthew Steeples has the best parties. They are full of the most interesting and lovely people in London.

Who is the most positive person you know?

My brother Charlie. He is always so calm and always sees the glass half-full .

    What’s your most guilty pleasure?

I love watching American television shows. Nashville and Revenge are my favourites at the moment.

If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?

It would be a phoenix as I love what this mythical bird symbolises. There is going to be a phoenix on the scarves I’m designing.

If you were a car, what marque would you be?

I would be a red Cadillac.

Cilla Black presented Surprise, Surprise. Tell us the most surprising thing about you.

That I am related to General LaSalle who was first General to Napoleon and I can get married in Les Invalides in Paris. I’m sure the James Bond character was based on him. I am also related to Prince Yusupov who murdered Rasputin.

What’s currently sitting on your mantelpiece?

I have family photographs, candles, a clock that was my granny’s and my Kasabian AAA pass.

Sasha Reid trained to be a teacher before becoming a headmistress of a nursery school. She was then responsible for discovering a Leicester band called Kasabian and worked with them until they were signed to a major label.
