    Enough talking

Matthew Steeples suggests that it is action rather than talks that are required in the case of Julian Assange

Ricardo Patino, Ecuador’s foreign minister, has requested talks with his British counterpart William Hague regarding the situation created by Julian Assange moving himself into their embassy in London. This, frankly, is not required.

The Chelsea Arts Club courts controversy with their Heroes and Villains exhibition

This summer the Chelsea Arts Club has chosen to exhibit 180 works by their most prominent members to raise funds for the Chelsea Arts Club Trust and the Artist General Benevolent Institution (AGBI). The exhibition’s title – Heroes and Villains – was bound to attract controversy but it has been because of the paintings on the front façade of the club’s Old Church Street premises that passions have truly been aroused.

Amongst the images displayed on the facade of the club is one of Tintin paired with Hannibal Lecter

Don’t be an arsehole, be a true friend

A letter that just had to be shared

Today I was sent a scan of a letter written on 6th December 1983 by Spike Milligan. It made me laugh and I thought it most worthy of sharing with readers of The Steeple Times.

Spotted in the vicinity of Park Lane

Blatant displays of wealth are not uncommon in Central London. One individual we reported on spent £7.2 million on a number plate and another is selling a 45-bedroom residence for £300 million. This week’s picture of the week shows two Aston Martin Cygnets in separate locations in the vicinity of Park Lane.

  • Ian Towning

    Ian Towning

This creepy, permatanned ‘queen’ of the antiques trade claims to have blue blood on his mother’s side. Aside from appearing on the ‘mahogany skinned’ David Dickinson’s Real Deal television programme, Ian Towning once attempted to launch a pen for left-handed writers. He is often spotted promenading the Kings Road – from where he operates a somewhat downbeat market stall-esque dealership – in ‘full regalia’ and at a certain sun tanning parlour next to McDonalds.
