Princeton educated Carter Cleveland’s impressive roster of backers number Jack Dorsey, Larry Gagosian, Wendi Murdoch, Eric Schmidt and Dasha Zhukova and his rather bold aim is to provide “the place where every single user in the world goes to discover art online”. Cleveland has raised £15,931,000 ($26,000,000) in funding and featured on both Town & Country’s ‘Most Eligible Bachelors’ list and Forbes’ ‘30 under 30’ in 2014.

    Social networks were all the rage in the early 2000s and the social network for so-called “high net worths” was ASmallWorld. Though it prospered in its early days, it’s since floundered and I can’t personally say I know a single person who remains a member. Now, someone else is trying to seize the mantle and in founding something called the Netropolitan Club, an orchestra conductor named James Touchi-Peters has proven that this phenomena is still something that some will seek to exploit. Brian Chesky jointly set up his business in 2008 in San Francisco and has connected over 17 million guests as of September 2014. Offerings on the website range from yurts through to the entire principality of Liechtenstein. Though worth some £928 million ($1.5 billion), Chesky believes in the “eating your own dog food” method and has not owned a home since 2010.

    “Wild haired” Kate Armstrong, the Australian founder of Confused.com, bought the medieval Scottish castle Cassillis House in Ayrshire from the Kennedy clan in 2009 for £3 million. She spent four years and £3.5 million updating and improving it but is now selling it at a loss for just £5 million. (more…)

    Cameron and Tyler WinklevossBorn in The Hamptons, the 6’5” tall Winklevoss twins have achieved success in both rowing and online ventures. Their long-running legal wranglings with Mark Zuckerberg over who founded Facebook scored them a settlement of at least $65 million and they used this to In 2012, they established Winklevoss Capital and after discovering bitcoin whilst partying in Ibiza the very same year, they bought up around 1% of the currency before launching Winkdex, a financial index that tracks the price of bitcoin, in 2014. Aside from their entrepreneurial activities the brothers have rowed at both the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2010 Boat Race in London and used bitcoins to purchase flights on one of Virgin Galactic’s space flights.
