    Ask Charlie – How to perfect a Sunday roast

    New columnist Charlie Gray of ‘Ask Charlie’ shares her tips as to how to cook a perfect Sunday roast

    A Sunday roast is the perfect time to leave your phones to one side, turn off the TV and sit down with your loved ones and enjoy eating in their company.

     

    A Sunday roast doesn’t have to be at lunch time, early evenings work well too – this way, you have more of the day to do the things that need to be done.

     

    Cooking the roast shouldn’t be stressful so I thought I would share my top tips with you:

     

    Take the meat out of the fridge an hour before cooking, at this point, it is the perfect time to lay the table and prepare the vegetables and make the all-important pudding (bread and butter, treacle tart, apple pie are great options).

     

    Prepare the meat, season, stuff, etc and pop into a hot oven.

     

    Par boil your potatoes for 8 mins then strain and give a little shake to fluff up.

     

    Tip on to a lined roasting tray drizzle a little rape seed oil and sprinkle a tablespoon of flour and season with sea salt – place these in the oven with the meat.

     

    You can now sit down and relax for 30 minutes.

     

    Next steam your veggies and make a bread sauce or cheese sauce to accompany them.

     

    Make sure you keep the water from the bottom of the steamer as this is perfect for adding into your gravy.

     

    Now is the time to warm your plates and serving bowls.

     

    Take out the meat and let it rest while you make the gravy

     

    Carve, serve and enjoy.

    During the screening of Barrymore: The Body in the Pool, the television personality India Willoughby announced to her 38,000 followers on Twitter: “I find Michael Barrymore as convincing as Prince Andrew.” She was 100% spot on and in the hours prior to the documentary airing, the vile concealer of the truth and disgraced entertainer piled yet more misery on the family of Stuart Lubbock – the victim of murder in his very own swimming pool – by taking to Instagram to pathetically moan that he was getting “bashed” and “bullied” by the media.

     

    Barrymore (born Michael Parker) – a cretin who lied when he claimed he could not swim – went further in his 1:21 minute rant and aside from whingeing that he hadn’t (rightly) been given an advance viewing (since he refused to cooperate with the filming), this tawdry turd of a person delusionally announced:

     

    “The truth is, I’ve always done everything asked of me… Watch the ITV interview with Piers Morgan [for which he was disgustingly paid £60,000]… He left no stone unturned… I have cooperated with everyone [one could add: “Apart from the police and the Lubbock family”] and I have had nothing to do with this [Stuart Lubbock’s death] whatsoever.”

    Michael Barrymore – a man who cannot face people questioning his disgraceful behavior – has blocked both Matthew Steeples and ‘The Steeple Times’ on Twitter.
    Crazed nutjob Michael Barrymore’s bizarre rant prior to Channel 4’s documentary about the death of Stuart Lubbock proves him a lying maniac.
    Essex Police is finally doing the decent thing and have issued a reward in conjunction with Crimestoppers to get “the breakthrough that we need” and justice for the Lubbock family.

    The bombshell documentary itself was very painstakingly put together over 18 months and is a must watch. Of this well researched television show, on Twitter, one user, Michelle Gladstone, joined the many reacting with fury and remarked: “Watching this program [sic] is making my blood boil. Of those people at the party, at least one of them knows the truth about how Stuart died. How can they live with themselves, keeping the truth from the Lubbock family?” Another, Amanda Clarke, added: “How bloody dare Michael Barrymore blame NHS staff for that poor man’s injuries. Say what happened liar.”

    Elsewhere on social media this morning, Barrymore has taken to blocking anyone who dares to question what went on on the 31st March 2001. In doing so this scumbag simply yet again proves himself for exactly what he is: A shameless coward who now jolly well better man-up and answer the most important question of all: “Who present that night murdered Stuart Lubbock?”

    Known previously as the runaway bride of the new governor of California Gavin Newsom – and a woman who has teased her ex-hubby by suggesting her new love, Donald Trump Jr. and him talk about their mutual love of the slicked-back-hair-do – Guilfoyle appeared in a photograph on Instagram with the nastiest animal slayer on the planet, Larysa Switlyk, on 21st January.

     

    Switlyk – who has rightly been described as “a bitch of the first order” elsewhere on social media – is best known for paying to shoot sheep in England, massacre goats in Scotland, slaughter alligators in Florida and murder bears in Alberta is a vile, vile woman. She has no shame over her immoral actions and simply uses her presence on social media to sell crappy T-shirts. She ought, like Trump Jr. also, be treated in the very same manner as those poor, innocent animals she so mercilessly slaughters.

    Reality television ‘star’ and ex-girlfriend of acid thrower Ferne McCann caught hurling drinks at National Television Awards

     

    Ferne McCann and chucking things seem to go together. First, the father of her child was deservedly jailed after attacking 22 innocent people with acid and now it has been revealed that this Brentwood born broad chucked wine at a fellow guest at the National Television Awards at the O2 Arena on the 22nd January.

     

    During the attack, Ms McCann – a tawdry fishwife-like woman whose ‘fame’ stems from stints on such drivel as TOWIE, Loose Women and This Morning –  also supposedly shoved a plastic cup containing the liquid in the face of her victim, Love Island participant Adam Collard.

     

    Here is a woman who also tastelessly promoted lip plumping primer on the day her evil ex, “despicable liar” Arthur Collins, was sent down and here also is someone happy to pose with the creepy Christian crooner Cliff Richard. Ferne McCann – who was questioned by police over the drink throwing incident – is as common as muck and plainly also deserves to be sent to anger management classes.

    Ferne McCann yet again shows herself to be nothing but a vile opportunist; she should be taken off our screens

     

    Ferne McCann undoubtedly proved herself a horror in 2017. On the day Arthur Collins, her former boyfriend and father of her child, was jailed in December that year for hurling acid over 22 innocent people in a nightclub, she took to Instagram to promote a lip plumping primer.

     

    Aside from been paid for that and having also named her child ‘Sunday’ – Collins carried out his attack on a Sunday – McCann has since lied about visiting her ex in prison and ridiculously returned to presenting on ITV’s Loose Women programme.

     

    Posting to her 2.2 million followers recently, McCann shared an image of herself with another national horror, Sir Cliff Richard, and over the weekend appeared in the Mail Online. In an article titled: “Ferne McCann lets her hair down as she flashes her racy lingerie in ripped tights during boozy Christmas party,” the paper shared images of this pissed-up wench posing in her knickers and hosting a party at The Langham Hotel. They simply provided illustration of how out of touch from reality this Essex harlot truly is.

    Richard Madeley isn’t a man, he’s simply a menace. Married to the old soak and famous boob flasher Judy Finnigan and looking more and more like Dorian Gray as each day passes, the former This Morning presenter “has been branded ‘embarrassing’, ‘ignorant’ and ‘an idiot’ after [asking a] shocking question to the mum of a man with autism.”

     

    Standing in for the equally pugnacious Piers Morgan on ITV1’s Good Morning Britain this week, “Richard Went Full Madeley” according to The Mirror when he curtly asked: “The thing with Daniel [Wakeford, a ‘star’ on Channel 4’s Undateables] is, he has autism but is very intelligent and as we can see extremely talented. Has Daniel always been autistic?”

     

    Criticised for his stupid and inappropriate question widely on social media, here is yet again evidence that Madeley really isn’t the sharpest tool in the box. This classmate of Chancellor ‘Spreadsheet Phil’ Philip Hammond previously made a joke about alleged abuser of 1,000 women Harvey Weinstein in October 2017.

    The Poppy Pariahs

    Matthew Steeples names and shames the retail giants who won’t be selling Royal British Legion poppies this year; they include Boots, Sainsbury’s, Selfridges, Tesco, Waitrose and Wholefoods

     

    Even ‘Murky’ Meghan Markle – down under in New Zealand on tour – is sporting one right now; the humble poppy. A mark of respect to those who fought so we didn’t end up living under a regime of terror, most surprisingly, isn’t available at a single supermarket in Belgravia, Chelsea, Fulham or Knightsbridge.

     

    Today, I visited Sainsbury’s in Elizabeth Street, Belgravia in the hope of buying a Royal British Legion poppy. I asked at the counter and was met with: “We don’t sell those things.” I then telephoned the company’s press office and was told: “Our employees got the wrong end of the stick.”

     

    Subsequently, by email, a media relations executive working at the firm, Jordan Grant, replied and commented: “We can reassure customers poppies will be available in store this week.” Given it is already 29th October and Remembrance Sunday is just 13 days away, this is hardly acceptable – especially given the store is already selling Christmas decorations (Christmas Day is 57 days away).

     

    Next, in frustration, I visited Tesco on Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea. Situated directly next to the National Army Museum and close to the Royal Hospital – home to the legendary and widely respected Chelsea Pensioners. On asking for a poppy, a till operative lackadaisically remarked: “We do not sell those things. We are a supermarket.”

     

    Waitrose Belgravia – commonly known as “Celebrity Waitrose” due to the likes of John Cleese and Lady Helen Taylor being regulars –presented a similar but worse response. The customer service desk operative at the flagship store told me: “We do not condone war so do not sell poppies. It is against our company policy.”

     

    A friend, on my behalf, visited Wholefoods and was told: “We don’t know what poppies are” (they, at least, suggested donating to a homeless charity). She also got told at Boots: “We don’t sell things like that” but did find a lovely pair of Sikh gentlemen selling poppies in the Fulham Broadway underground station. She gave them £25.

     

    A phone call to Selfridges was met with: “We do not supply poppies” but Harrods came through. Their customer service desk call handler announced: “We will be selling poppies later this week. We like to support the Royal British Legion.”

     

    Shame on the high street retailers of Britain. Not a poppy in sight and not an ounce of support for the heroes who’ve saved us. This is an utter disgrace and it should be named as such.

    Social networking sites have become a part of everyday life for many people especially for millennials. In an effort to attract this demographic, many industries have begun to harness the power of social media.  One such industry is the food industry where many restaurants and cafes utilise the photo networking site, Instagram, to promote places to visit such as these venues in London.

     

    Peggy Porschen

    If you’ve got a sweet tooth, then definitely a visit with Peggy’s is in order. Probably one of the most picturesque bake shops in the capital, the store is painted pink and adorned with hearts and flowers. The shop has been the background of many selfies so don’t be surprised to see crowds out front snapping pics. While the baked goods are a bit pricey, the whole visit is an experience. The cupcakes are seriously delicious and worth every pound. Open daily from 8am to 8pm, Peggy’s sweets can be washed down with tea or even champagne.

     

    Bob Bob Ricard

    This elegant eatery is decorated in a style reminiscent of the 1920s. On the menu is both Russian and British cuisine. Expect to find comfort food accompanied by lots of champagne. To further emphasize the availability of champagne, each booth is outfitted with its own “press for champagne” button which adds a bit of fun to the dining experience here. A full bar is available if cocktails are more to your liking. Perhaps start off with platinum vodkas shots which has been chilled to -18°C. Meals here aren’t cheap and it you are wanting to impress a date or guests, BBR is the place to go.

     

    Bubblewrap Waffle

    With their signature bubble waffle, the BubblewrapWaffle has also earned its reputation for being one of the top Instagrammed eateries in London. Originally an import from Hong Kong and featured in Chinatown, egg waffles have evolved into these snacks constructed from lattice batter. You can opt for either the original or chocolate flavoured. The bubblewrap is then stuffed with gelato as well as toppings of your choice. Then it is all wrapped up much like a cone. While many prefer the sweet versions of the bubblewraps, many also opt for the savoury flavours including the avocado egg featuring eggs and avocado.

     

    Berner’s Tavern

    One of three restaurants in West End London created by Jason Atherton, Berner’s Tavern opened five years ago. While the menu provides mouth-watering fare, if it the atmosphere and décor that make this venue tops on Instagram. The dining room is large and spacious with an ornate plasterwork ceiling that help make it quite photogenic. Located within the newly opened Edition Hotel, the restaurant’s walls are tiled with numerous framed pieces of fine art.

     

    Palm Vaults

    This pastel café is covered with palm trees and plants. Featured here are colourful lattes that are very Instagrammable including ones in hues of rose, aqua and lavender. They provide healthy options including vegan and gluten free. Brunch is a popular draw here where you can enjoy tasty yet healthy fare and add to your Instagram feed as well.
