    Michelle Mone OBE

Michelle MoneWhen her husband left her, she could of ‘moaned’ but instead she got on with it and paid her now ex-husband some £24 million for his share of her lingerie business. Glasgow born, Mone “”grew up a Scottish, Labour voting Protestant and is now a Conservative voting Catholic” but it is for her patented Ultimo bra that women love her most. Like Margaret Thatcher before her, this high achiever sleeps for only 4 hours each night and goes for a 5-mile jog every morning. She especially likes the lyrics of Michael Buble’s Haven’t Met You Yet.

A spoof David Cameron is faced with a difficult question on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire”

David Cameron isn’t having a great time right now. 114 of the 305 sitting Conservative MPs rebelled against him in protest at his stance on Britain’s membership of the European Union and UKIP are soaring at the polls.

  • Brian Coleman

    Brian Coleman

Brian Coleman“Nice to see ya. Are you alright?” was this Independent Conservative’s answer when he was asked about his inappropriate behaviour outside a court. “He grabbed my arse” was the response of his victim. A former Mayor of Barnet, Coleman, who was expelled from the Conservative Party in October 2012, was fined £270 after pleading guilty to the charge in May 2013. In both 2009 and 2011 he was to be in breach of Barnet Council’s code of conduct and in 2007 he wrote a blog post for the New Statesman accusing the late Edward Heath of being into cottaging. Would you want him as a dinner party guest?

Ken Livingstone should honour his promise

When Ken Livingstone lost for a second time to Boris Johnson May 2012, he announced “this will be my last election” and signaled that he might quietly disappear from frontline politics.

Sadly, he’s plainly reassessed the idea and today caused great offence with comments made on the Iranian television channel Press TV about the motives of the Boston bombers. (more…)

The sale of a Purdey gun engraved with a portrait of Baroness Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher had many devoted followers and fans in her time as Prime Minister. Coal miners, in general, were not amongst them but some like Jimi Heselden OBE (1948 – 2010) used their redundancy payouts to make vast fortunes.

David Reuben Jr: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times asks emerging market investor David Reuben Jr: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?

I try to follow the “Golden Rule”. Treat others the way you would prefer that they treat you. Be careful how you are with people on your way up, you just might meet them on the way down.

Jilly Cooper’s state of the nation style summary strikes chords with Matthew Steeples

Best-selling bonkbuster author Jilly Cooper might be best known for novels such as Riders and Jump! but in the 1980s and 90s she was equally lauded as “one of the Conservative Party’s most ardent supporters.”

    Jilly Cooper

Cooper, born in 1937, showed she still has a grip on the nation’s pulse yesterday when she declared that the Conservative Party is “full of terrible people now” to The Spectator’s “Steerpike.”

Separately, in a comment to The Telegraph’s “Mandrake,” Mrs Cooper shared her thoughts on Pippa Middleton’s first book, Celebrate:

“[It] wasn’t a good idea. I don’t blame her – I think that she was ill-advised… All I can say is that I hope the British don’t demonise her because of it. She seems a lovely girl and her sister is wonderful.”

Ever the diplomat, Jilly Cooper, in these comments, shows herself as a truly brilliant wordsmith. She has tact and decency but at the same time doesn’t hold back when it comes to honesty.

Nigel Farage should put in a call. Mrs Cooper could be just the asset UKIP needs to transform them from a “bunch of loons” to electability.
