Wally of the Week – Tom Harwood

Petulant child Tom Harwood makes a nuisance of himself on ‘Politics Live’ after previously claiming he can singlehandedly defeat ISIS and making comparison of Brexit to using a condom

“Contraceptives should be used on every conceivable occasion.”

    Spike Milligan, Puckoon (1963)

Former leader of the student wing of Vote Leave Tom Harwood describes himself as being “sometimes on the news” to his 18,900 followers on Twitter, but, in fact, this petulant child just makes a nuisance of himself wherever he goes.

Yesterday, on BBC2’s Politics Live, Harwood had to be told to calm down by the show’s hostess Jo Coburn after he continually interrupted other guests, but elsewhere on YouTube he shares further evidence of his annoying conduct in videos with titles such as: “Amazing facts you won’t believe (and probably shouldn’t).” They are utterly pointless, not at all funny and simply indicative that this brat shouldn’t even be put in charge of a bus ticket.

Wally of the Week – Condom campaigner and Brexiteer Tom Harwood – Petulant child Tom Harwood makes a nuisance of himself on ‘Politics Live’ after previously claiming he can singlehandedly defeat ISIS and making comparison of Brexit to using a condom
Condom kid Tom Harwood came up with the idea of giving out Vote Leave condoms as a marketing strategy to encourage people to vote in support of Brexit

As if it were not odd enough that Harwood pledged to defeat ISIS when he stood to be the NUS delegate for Durham University in 2016 and campaigned for 12 year olds to get the right to vote in 2018, it was his activities at Vote Leave that make him stand out as a total self-serving, self-promoting pillock. Whilst most leave campaigners delivered leaflets (and travelled on that accursed ‘bus of lies’), Harwood took a different approach: He came up with a campaign to give out Vote Leave condoms. Captioned with such messages as “it’s riskier to stay in,” of the reasoning for using such a marketing gimmick, Harwood told The Telegraph:

“[Condoms] are a great and fun way to get people talking/interested.”

“They illustrate that the safer choice is to Vote Leave, allowing Britain to become a global player once again.”

So, there we have it: Brexit, if Tom Harwood is to believed, is nothing but a giant contraceptive and just what a Britain run by a bunch of 12-year old lunatics plainly needs.

    Watery Child Labour

Advert for a Quooker boiling-water tap featuring a child in pyjamas using it was plainly the choice of a deranged marketing executive

Priced at between £1,150 and £1,600 depending on specification, a Quooker boiling-water tap with a flexible pull-out hose is anything but cheap but an advert for it, also, is anything but appropriate.

Watery Child Labour – Quooker Boiling-Water Tap and Child Labour – Advert for a Quooker boiling-water tap featuring a child in pyjamas using it was plainly the choice of a deranged marketing executive.

Though promoted as “extremely safe,” the marketing executive who came up with the advert for the product truly must have been on acid. It features a child in pyjamas perilously perched on something that allows him to reach the Quooker Flex. He is pictured squirting the hose into six glasses already filled with some kind of no doubt unhealthy sugary drink.

Whatever next? A return to child labour?

    Another Corbyn Calamity

Matthew Steeples reports that Jeremy Corbyn’s attempt to enthuse a child in Harlow didn’t go down well; children and politicians should never mix

Yesterday, Jeremy Corbyn headed to Harlow, Essex. He gave a speech to an assembled audience – including a woman with an upside down Labour poster – and then picked up a child and tried to charm it.

After I noted on Twitter that “the poor kid’ll be scarred for life #Awkward”, the child’s mother, Chloe Pullara, responded: “That’ll be my baby. It was an honour to meet @jeremycorbyn”.

In a video also shared by Ms Pullara, Corbyn is seen asking the child: “Are ya’ alright then?” It hid behind its coat and did not look in the slightest amused.

Chloe Pullara, a lady whose Twitter handle features the caption “proud to be the 48%”, plainly ignores the fact that Jeremy Corbyn’s party is backing Brexit as, in another tweet, she then added:

“So I just got to meet our future PM @jeremycorbyn. The most wonderful man who made time for each and every one of us”.

The incident, which comes in the wake of Theresa May being caught grimacing at children in a classroom, is yet another reminder of only one thing: Children and politicians should simply not mix.

  • A Balls-Up

    A Balls-Up

Shame on ‘The Sun’ for publishing a non-story about a child being hit by a football in Belgrave Square; the ball was kicked by a girl who was with the footballer Cesc Fàbregas

On Wednesday, the The Sun indulged in one of their most sensationalist pieces of journalism in recent months when they published an article that reported on a child being hit on the head by a football in Belgrave Square.

According to Victoria Diethardt – the 29-year old wife of an investment banker and mother of the child hit by the ball – after her “little ray of sunshine” suffered the unwelcome “ordeal”, she confronted Chelsea player Cesc Fàbregas, who was with a girl who had kicked the ball. Mrs Diethardt told The Sun:

“I wasn’t going to let them leave without knowing who was responsible. I asked the man his name but his wife stepped forward and said she was Daniella [Cesc Fàbregas’ partner] and gave me her number… I had no idea who Fàbregas was until after he left when others in the park told me”.

Mrs Diehardt’s child was later diagnosed with a minor head injury but, as is now typically the way, she gave her story to The Sun (presumably for a fee) and ridiculously told the tabloid: “Fàbregas should pay for the rest of his life”.

In response, a spokesman for Mr Fàbregas sensibly remarked:

“Both Daniella and her daughter apologised profusely and Daniella has called and texted since to see if the baby was OK. When they got no response they presumed there was no cause for concern”.

Plainly only published due to a lack of other news, the story generated many comments when later shared by the Mail Online. Amongst them, were many suggesting that the Diehardt was trying to make money out of a non-incident. One went as far as to remark: “This woman is trying to cash in because of who he is” whilst another added: “Call her out for what she is – a FREELOADER”.

  • A Right to Rape

    A Right to Rape

That a man who raped a 12-year old child has walked free is an utter disgrace

Daniel Cieslak met a 12-year old child in a taxi queue in Edinburgh city centre at 4am on 31st July 2015. He took her to a friend’s flat, had sexual intercourse with her and on being arrested “became distressed” and told detectives he had been led to believe she was 16.

On the 17th March, Cieslak, a Polish born, 21-year old student at Napier University, pleaded guilty to rape but was shockingly discharged without sentence and without requirement to sign the sex offenders’ register at the High Court in Glasgow.

The judge in the case, Lady Scott, took what she described as the “wholly exceptional” decision to “discharge [Cieslak] absolutely” despite the fact that she accepted that a victim under 13 years is “deemed incapable of consent”. She remarked: “Whilst there is no defence to this offence because of strict liability, the fact is that you would have had a defence if the victim had been a few months older”.

That Daniel Cieslak escaped punishment is an utter disgrace. It is true that the girl he raped lied to him and told him she was far older than her years, but that he claimed he did not know the true age of what essentially is a child seems a little far-fetched. In response, Isabelle Kerr, manager of Glasgow’s Rape Crisis Centre told The Scottish Sun:

“The law really can’t be any clearer. If someone is under the age of 16 they cannot give consent – therefore a 12-year old is not able to consent”.

“It’s a concern to be talking about someone of that age as an ‘active participant’. It’s going down the road of victim blaming, something we’ve been working to tackle”.

“I would be concerned that young women might be deterred from reporting rape if they feel they are not going to be believed or not taken seriously”.

Whilst Lady Scott may be of the view that “justice [has been] best served” by her judgment, we agree with those who say that she got it wrong. That Daniel Cieslak walked free is entirely wrong and that a website named Tabloid Corrections claimed that he is an “innocent man” is even worse. As with the case of the convicted but not jailed paedophile Andrew Picard, all this result does is to bring shame on Britain’s legal system.
