Capreolus Club Canned – A Salute To Jason Atherton For Banning Sick Goat Slayers

After a successful and swift campaign by ‘The Steeple Times,’ chef Jason Atherton is to be saluted for doing the right thing and banning the sickening goat slaying Capreolus Club from his premises; it is time these barbarians were banned full-stop

Now, after first being forced to take down their advert for a “club social” at Richard Caring’s swanky Mark’s Club in Mayfair on 8th September, the relocated event of the goat slaying Capreolus Club on that date at Jason Atherton’s Berners Tavern at the Edition Hotel in Fitzrovia has also been quite rightly canned.

As described in The Steeple Times on Sunday after Mr Atherton, the Berners Tavern, Edition Hotels and the public relations representatives for them after all failed to respond to request for comment on Friday and Saturday, we again shared that members of the Capreolus Club pay around £1,000 a pop to stalk goats in “the north of England and Scotland.” Of this, the twisted club enthuses: “If you want to hunt in the UK and fancy taking a break from deer, then feral goat stalking is a must.”

In the missive sent on Friday at 3:59pm, Matthew Steeples most fairly offered a 24-hour window for response from the 10 contacts emailed and asked:

    1. Have you accepted a booking from the Capreolus Club for the 8th September 2022 at 6.30pm at the Berners Tavern at the Edition Hotel?
    2. If so, did you know that the Capreolus Club is an ‘organisation’ that tells it members that “goat shooting is a must” in the UK?
    3. If so, do you also endorse the slaying of goats in the British Isles in this truly barbaric manner as a bit of fun?
    4. Do you feel that killing goats by chasing them across the hills to slay them as “a break from deer” is something that should be celebrated with a ritzy dinner at the Berners Tavern at the Edition Hotel?

Subsequently highlighted after a lack of reply by Sunday in the form of an article and a Change.org petition that was signed by 123 goat loving people prior to being declared victorious on Tuesday 9th August, a PR representative named Kate Bell eventually replied on Monday 8th August at 10.57am.

As we then added in an update to our article at 2pm on Monday 8th August for the sake of clarity, Kate Bell of Purple PR – without answering our four questions – told us:

“Many thanks for your email and for bringing this matter to our attention. Berners Tavern is not aware of this event and is not hosting it. We have asked the club to remove the event from their website as a matter of urgency.”

Later on, responding at 5.05pm, another Ms Bell, this time one named Gemma Bell of Gemma Bell and Company, further remarked:

“I have been looped into this email thread by Purple PR because I am Jason’s publicist. I would like to reiterate that Jason Atherton and Berners Tavern were not in any way aware of the nature of the booking. Now this has been brought to light the booking has been cancelled and the Club informed.”

“As Kate said, this should be taken down from their website immediately so we are also hoping that you will take down the article from yours. I also noticed a recipe of Jason’s on the website, this will also need to be removed, not quite sure why it’s included [editor’s note: The recipe is for a dish made with GOAT cheese].”

“Jason Atherton was not aware that this booking had been made at Berners Tavern, and it has now been cancelled. Jason and The Social Company do not condone any barbaric treatment of animals. The Capreolus Club is banned from all of The Social Company’s sites.”

Going further at 8.22am this morning in another email, Gemma Bell added:

“I am surprised to see the article is still up on your website with the addition of emails from Purple PR. However, your headline is very misleading and incorrect since the booking is no longer at Berners Tavern and the group have been banned from all restaurants part of The Social Company.”

Responding this morning, Matthew Steeples observed:

“Our article was anything but ‘misleading’ as clearly a booking had been taken by the Berners Tavern for an event for the goat slaying Capreolus Club. We received no response Friday and we rightly chose to highlight publicly available information on that club’s website.”

“Though I am pleased that this wicked celebration of massacre has now been cancelled and salute Jason Atherton for banning the Capreolus Club from his venues, it is not for PR people to tell journalists what they can and cannot publish. This article today clarifies the cancellation made, hails the decisive action of Jason Atherton and now our Change.org petition will now be marked as successful also.”

“As with Mark’s Club – who did not demand the removal of our articles – we commend all who join with us in banishing goat slayers from their orbit. Chasing such beautiful creatures across the hills to slay them as ‘a break from deer’ is totally reprehensible and unacceptable and should be called out as such.”

Equally, as one of our esteemed readers, a marketing expert from New York, commented in a private message yesterday: “I would have thought [these PR people] could get more PR mileage out of being horrified at the Capreolus Club and how Jason is thrilled to say he’s banning them forever, rather than trying to get you to take down your posting.”

“As you allude to in your email, easier to make goat cheese from live goats than slaughtered ones.”

Pictured top – A happy goat jumping for joy at news of the Capreolus Club again getting banished.

    8th September
The Capreolus Club has now removed the advertised 8th September event at the Berners Tavern at the Edition Hotel in London, but they have replaced it with and an advertisement for an event at another venue in Mayfair that remains “to be announced.” Clearly, another restaurant, members’ club or hotel must now be willing to face the negative publicity of being involved with such.
Why on earth would anyone want to shoot a hardy domesticated ruminant mammal with backward-curving horns? You’d have to be decidedly deranged to wish to view participating in such as pleasurable. Whilst most people enjoy walking, reading, watching films and fine dining, members of the club run by Peter Jones prefer to go around massacring such beautiful creatures for utterly no good reason. Though they pay around £1,000 for the ‘privilege,’ they would be better confined to where they really belong – mental institutions.
Why would anyone in their right-mind want to participate in such barbaric behaviour? If one wants entertainment, why not read a book? Why not watch a film? Why not go instead to the cinema or a walk even? For anyone to consider this acceptable simply illustrates that they must be beyond mentally challenged and utterly reprehensible.

Getting Our Goat II – Chef Jason Atherton To Welcome Barbarian Goat Slaying Capreolus Club

As the UK goat slaughtering Capreolus Club swap swanky Mark’s Club for Jason Atherton’s Berners Tavern, we condemn the latter for welcoming such barbarians to their premises

Further Update – Tuesday 9th August, 11.30am – Last night at 5.05pm, Gemma Bell of Gemma Bell and Company emailed to confirm that the 8th September “booking has been cancelled” and the “Capreolus Club is banned from all of The Social Company’s sites.” ‘The Steeple Times’ has saluted Jason Atherton’s decision in a further article this morning.

In May, after The Steeple Times highlighted to Mayfair’s swanky Mark’s Club that a sick group who pay £1,000 a pop to slaughter goats in the north of England and Scotland were advertising a twisted celebratory event there on 8th September, the Richard Caring owned venue very sensibly forced the Capreolus Club to remove the promotion of such from their website.

At the time, Belle Wade, a spokesman for Mark’s, remarked:

“My colleague passed on your email requesting for comment regarding a booking allegedly taking place at Mark’s Club in September.”

“I can confirm we are not hosting this event at Mark’s Club and do not have any reservations for anybody on that date under any names associated with that event. We have now asked them to remove this from their website.”

“To clarify – this event was never booked at Marks Club. As soon as it was brought to our attention that the event was being promoted as being hosted with us, we asked them to remove it from their website: It was not a case of it ever being booked in with us and then us asking them to remove. I just wanted to make that clear.”

Now, the Capreolus Club have updated their website and announced that they have moved the event for their goat massacring members to another London venue on the 8th September from 6.30pm. According to an advertisement on their site, Michelin starred chef Jason Atherton will serve “some excellent contemporary British cuisine” at the Berners Tavern restaurant at the Edition Hotel to guests who are asked to book by paying a reservation fee of £1.

“Dinner and drinks are at the member’s own expense,” express the club in their statement before adding that the club chairman Peter Jones will “chat about how to get the best from your deer stalking and shooting during the autumn season.”

Having seen this on Friday 5th August, Matthew Steeples of The Steeple Times contacted a number of representatives of Jason Atherton, the Berners Tavern and the Edition Hotel via email. He asked:

    1. Have you accepted a booking from the Capreolus Club for the 8th September 2022 at 6.30pm at the Berners Tavern at the Edition Hotel?

    1. If so, did you know that the Capreolus Club is an ‘organisation’ that tells it members that “goat shooting is a must” in the UK?

    1. If so, do you also endorse the slaying of goats in the British Isles in this truly barbaric manner as a bit of fun?

    1. Do you feel that killing goats by chasing them across the hills to slay them as “a break from deer” is something that should be celebrated with a ritzy dinner at the Berners Tavern at the Edition Hotel?

As of 11am on Sunday 7th August, not even a PR person for any of the aforementioned had responded and today we urge readers to join with us to condemn Jason Atherton, the Berners Tavern and the Edition Hotel for effectively endorsing the pointless massacre of goats on British soil by allowing the Capreolus Club to ‘celebrate’ at their premises.

Please support us in our attempt to persuade Mr Atherton, the Berners Tavern and the Edition Hotel to cancel the Capreolus Club event on 8th September 2022 by signing our petition on Change.org.

Update – 2pm, Monday 8th August – Finally, after crickets from Jason Atherton, the Berners Tavern, Edition Hotels and PR firm Purple PR, this morning we received the following from Kate Bell of Purple PR: “Many thanks for your email and for bringing this matter to our attention. Berners Tavern is not aware of this event and is not hosting it. We have asked the club to remove the event from their website as a matter of urgency.” Not one single other representative emailed has yet, most tellingly, deigned to reply whilst the event remains ‘live’ on the Capreolus Club website.

Replying further to a request to remove this article and our Change.org petition from Kate Bell, Matthew Steeples responded:

“The article will not be removed but we will update it with your statement.”

“None of my actual four questions, submitted Friday and not responded to until this morning, have actually been answered satisfactorily by anyone and the event remains on the Capreolus Club website.”

“Should you, Jason Atherton, Purple PR, Edition Hotels or the Berners Tavern wish to submit a comment condemning the Capreolus Club and goat slaying, I will happily publish that.”

Pictured top – When much revered and clearly talented chef Jason Atherton presented the BBC’s ‘Saturday Kitchen’ in September 2016, viewers reacted by suggesting of his hosting skills: “There’s less dead air at a cemetery” (left) and barbarian trophy hunting horror Larysa Switlyk (right) – a wicked wastrel witch who head to Scotland from America to slay a goat in October 2018.

Why would anyone in their right-mind want to participate in the barbaric slaughter of goats in the north of England and Scotland? If one wants entertainment, why not read a book? Why not watch a film? Why not go instead to the cinema or a walk even? For anyone to consider this acceptable simply illustrates that they must be beyond mentally challenged and utterly reprehensible.
Having been banished by Mark’s Club, the Capreolus Club are now advertising their 8th September as being held at the Jason Atherton owned Berners Tavern at London’s Edition Hotel. Shockingly, not one single representative of any involved party responded to request for comment from ‘The Steeple Times’ as of 11am Sunday 7th August 2022.

In February 2021, the club caused further outrage when the City of London Corporation after it was revealed that it had given it a contract to kill hundreds of deer in Epping Forest. In November 2016, the decision to allow the barbarian members of Capreolus Club to have freedom to shoot in this very busy popular with the public location close to Central London was further branded “an accident waiting to happen” and “gross.”

It took ‘The Steeple Times’ just 12 signatures on Change.org before a stop was put to the 8th September event at Mark’s Club – an event that supposedly had never even been organised in the first place.

In May 2016, Jason Atherton explained “how to make his signature goat’s cheese churros” to ‘WhatsOnDubai.’ He didn’t, however, discuss his thoughts on barbarians paying £1,000 a pop to slaughter goats in the north of England and Scotland.
According to a video shared on YouTube in June 2019, the Richmond, London based Capreolus Club, at that time, had “over 100 high quality members.” One is simply left asking: “What on earth is ‘high quality’ about people with a desire to around shooting goats in the north of England and Scotland?” We would suggest that these 100 or so idiots find themselves something better to do – helping homeless people, assisting those struggling with the cost of living crisis or going out picking litter on beaches would be far better options.
Why would anyone in their right-mind want to participate in such barbaric behaviour? If one wants entertainment, why not read a book? Why not watch a film? • Getting Our Goat – Mark’s Club, Mayfair To Host Party For Goat Killers

Getting Our Goat – Mark’s Club, Mayfair To Host Party For Goat Killers

‘The Steeple Times’ launches a petition calling on Mayfair’s Mark’s Club – owned by the bouffant haired billionaire Richard Caring – to cancel an event for the Capreolus Club – an organisation that shockingly charges its members to shoot GOATS in the British Isles

On a likely somewhat balmy early autumn evening, Thursday 8th September 2022, ritzy Richard Caring owned Mark’s Club in Mayfair – the haunt normally of the likes of former Prime Minister David Cameron and David and Victoria Beckham – will welcome a bunch of barbarians who pay upto £1,000 a pop to kill a goat in the north of England and Scotland.

Members of the cretinous Capreolus Club, a clearly off-its-not-so-merry-rocker organisation “chaired” by someone named Peter Jones, are invited to join him and his “team for drinks on the terrace… at one of London’s most elegant and exclusive members’ clubs” at 7pm that night. They will no doubt celebrate what the club lists elsewhere on its webpages as “goat stalking in the north of England and Scotland.”

Of this clearly twisted behaviour, the club declares: “If you want to hunt in the UK and fancy taking a break from deer, then Fearl [sic] Goat Stalking is a must” yet fails to mention that this disgustingly sick “activity” was rightly condemned in an October 2018 article by Ruth Tingay in The New Statesman.

Of the massacre of hardy domesticated ruminant mammals with backward-curving horns, at that time, Tingay rightly remarked:

“The easiest way to get up close and personal to [one] is to open a bag of crisps within earshot, and then sit and wait for the goat’s curiosity and greed to get the better of it. You can snap a quick selfie whilst [it] munches its salty treat before both going your separate ways.”

“Alternatively, you could dress yourself in head-to-toe camouflage, arm yourself with a high-calibre rifle and pit your wits against this ferocious creature, shoot its brains out from a distance and then brag about your ‘hard core huntress’ status by posing triumphantly next to the corpse, impressing your social media followers and your shooting industry sponsors. Once you’ve demonstrated your prowess against this fearless predator, you can move on to the more challenging target of a black-faced ram.”

“American TV presenter and ‘world-renowned hunter’ Larysa Switlyk [a wicked wench condemned repeatedly in The Steeple Times previously] took the second option after recently visiting Islay in Scotland for what she described as a fun hunt,’ which has resulted in a Twitter storm of both rage and ridicule… Such was the fury and intensity of the public’s response, Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon made an announcement that the government would be ‘reviewing the current situation’ (of trophy hunting) and ‘considering whether changes to the law are required.’”

Going further, in April this year, Jamie Mann for The Ferret again referenced the perfectly reasonable public outrage to this unbelievable behaviour and added:

“Scottish sporting estates are charging clients up to £1,000 to shoot wild goats years after public outrage over the practice prompted the Scottish Government to review shooting laws.

“The Ferret found five hunting companies advertising [such] hunting trips in the Highlands and Islands, the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway.”

“This sparked international media coverage and condemnation from senior politicians and members of the public, which prompted the Scottish Government to review shooting laws.”

“The government told The Ferret its review ‘was paused during the pandemic but will be resumed shortly.’ The Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting said it was ‘frankly baffling’ that the government hadn’t acted more quickly, given public support for a ban.”

“The Scottish Greens condemned ‘a small cabal of wealthy trophy hunters who take pleasure from killing animals’ while animal charity OneKind urged the government to stop sporting estates profiting from ‘this cruel type of tourism.’”

“[The] members only [club], offer feral goat stalking in Scotland… ‘Regrettably, ill-informed comments in the press have the potential to harm the same animals that the press purport to be trying to help,’ the Capreolus Club told The Ferret.”

“’By publishing one-sided, ill-informed comments, many journalists are doing a disservice to wildlife and the environment, both of which deserve more serious, sensible debate,’ argued Peter Jones, the club’s founder and chief executive.”

The Steeple Times contacted Mark’s Club and the Capreolus Club and its “supporter” Swarovksi on Saturday 21st May for comment. No reply was received from the hunting organisation and though representatives for Swarovski and Mark’s Club claimed they would pass on our request, nothing has yet been received justifying why they would associate with those who wish to go around so sickly slaying such beautiful creatures. Frankly, today, we say: Shame on all of them and call on each to join us in our condemnation of this barbarity.

We urge readers to join us in calling on Mark’s Club – unless they wish to continue to associate with such wicked, gruesome killers – to cancel the Capreolus Club drinks party on 8th September 2022 and to make a suitable donation to an appropriate conservation charity.

Miss Switlyk took to social media to describe the ‘event’ as “such a fun hunt” and claimed she “hunted hard for a big one for two days.”

Update: 2pm, Monday 23rd May 2022 – Statement from Belle Wade, Director of Events, Birley Clubs:

“My colleague passed on your email requesting for comment regarding a booking allegedly taking place at Mark’s Club in September.”

“I can confirm we are not hosting this event at Mark’s Club and do not have any reservations for anybody on that date under any names associated with that event. We have now asked them to remove this from their website.”

Why would anyone in their right-mind want to drink with such twisted barbarians and why, equally, would the chi-chi Mark’s Club wish to welcome people who brag about killing such beautiful and frankly harmless creatures? Just like sheep shooters, here only are twisted twerps with zero moral compasses and brainboxes that must have been stir-fried.
