This gentleman giant is the editor-in-chief of Quest magazine and the founder of the New York Social Diary. A revered social chronicler, “DPC” as he is widely known, previously collaborated with Debbie Reynolds on her autobiography and has also variously been an actor and stockbroker. He is seen at all of New York’s best events and amongst his favoured lunching spots are Michael’s and Swifty’s. Of dinner parties, DPC states: “You really never know who you will get as a dinner partner. It is a roll of the dice. I look forward to meeting different people from all walks of life — that is what makes life interesting”.

Baroness Gabriella Langer von Langendorff
The widow of the creator of White Shoulders perfume is well known in New York for both her “amply proportioned figure” and for being “highly made-up”. This resident of The Pierre loves bright colours and once told the New Yorker: “I never wear a watch at night. I don’t want to know what time it is at night”. The New York Social Diary suggests she even has her “fur coats dyed to match her emeralds, rubies, diamonds, and sapphires”. They add: “The baroness is one of those individuals of indeterminate youth and age, to put it politely, whose legend, long having departed reality, provides a rich lore that may be more enticing than the facts”. -
Baroness Stefania von Kories zu Goetzen (1939 – 2013)
American born von Kories zu Goetzen was heavily involved in The Residents’ Society of Mayfair & St. James’s and lived in grandeur on St. James’s Square. In an article in 1982, TIME accused her of being involved in a jewellery heist at the Ritz Paris. They were later forced to issue an apology. A portrait of the Baroness by Pietro Annigoni, started in Italy in the 1960s and still incomplete at the artist’s death, was so large that she was forced to move from Eaton Square to accommodate it. “I am an artist, not an architect”, he told her, before concluding: “Buy a new house”. -

Fernando Peire
This genial host is undoubtedly amongst the best connected on the London restaurant scene. Born in Gibraltar, Peire became senior maitre d’ at The Ivy in 1990 and after stints advising others such as Morton’s, The Halcyon Hotel and the Villa Nova in Barbados, he returned to The Ivy in 2007 as director. Instrumental in creating The Club at The Ivy in 2008, Peire also became Channel 5’s The Restaurant Inspector in 2011. If you’re lucky enough to have his details in your Rolodex, you’re most definitely all set. -

Some websites list him as the “buying director” of Harvey Nichols but their official website curiously fails to include him. This bow tie wearer is often to be found at parties in London but on many an occasion organisers have expressed surprise as to how he got in. There’s even a Twitter account in his honour named “Where’s The Pun?” Of him, the handle suggests that he can found at “any party, anywhere”. -

This American makes Nell Gwynn seem positively tame. The daughter of the ex-chief of Barclay’s bank, Bob, doesn’t like being confused with the singer Neil Diamond but does enjoy discussing sex on Twitter. When she’s not hanging with Lauren Bush Lauren, this cool is kid is either shopping on the Kings Road or raising funds for UNICEF.
