As ‘The Guardian’ explores the power of the Illuminati, Matthew Steeples argues that the few claiming links to such are nothing but mad, old cranks
This morning, The Guardian’sMartha Gill asked: “What is the Illuminati?” in an article that jokingly suggested Googling such would put one at “great personal risk.”
Referencing the organisation’s “top bananas – such as for example the Queen – [as] ancient lizards dating from an era before man existed” without even bringing the crackpot David Icke into it, politics, culture and neuroscience expert Gill made connections instead to Beyoncé, Madonna and Katy Perry. She called the Illuminati a “very clever cover-up” and a “myth” and a group that formed because a German philosopher named Adam Weishaupt “couldn’t afford the Freemason admission fee.” Overall, she concluded: “It is a powerful and savagely guarded organisation that secretly controls the entire modern world, probably while wearing cloaks. It has done this mainly through infiltrating the media and brainwashing everybody. It could be doing it right now.”
Whilst such claims are both countered and at the same time mocked in such works as Roman Polanski’s 2010 film The Ghost Writer –where a fictional former British Prime Minister turns out to have been controlled by a very shady operation named the Hatherton Corporation – what Gill misses is that the groups that continue to claim links to the Illuminati – such as the Ordo Templi Orientis – are, in fact, actually nothing but a bunch of mad, old cranks.

On Monday, the political blog Guido Fawkes exposed the new Member of Parliament for Kensington, Emma Dent Coad, as having viciously called a black Tory candidate named Shaun Bailey as a “token ghetto boy,” “gobby and dangerous,” a “free-loading scumbag” and “the most hated man in North Kensington” back in 2010 in a post on her blog.
Elsewhere, on Twitter, various users shared a survey circulated by Kensington, Chelsea and Fulham Conservatives that disgustingly asked residents of the Courtfield Ward to rate the importance of the Grenfell Tower tragedy on a scale of one-to-ten in terms of its importance.
One is only left asking: What on earth is wrong with these moronic people? Have they not an ounce of sense?

Top-drawer politicians again sweep serious incidents of historic abuse under the carpet; focusing on film star abusers instead is not the solution
Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and Theresa May’s thirty-six apparently ropey sex pest MPs are undoubtedly – if all or indeed any of the allegations against them are proven true – repugnant specimens but what about the existing and conveniently forgotten victims of historic abuse by equally powerful individuals including politicians, religious figures and police officers?
Just because a few well-known personalities – and admittedly long after the crimes against them, in some cases, have past the statute of limitation – have leapt up now, the media and politicians have joined a bandwagon of #MeToo. In the much older case, however, of the VIP abuse at the Elm Guest House in Richmond – a place of which only one decent MP, Zac Goldsmith, has bothered to speak out – all remains sadly silent and all allegations remain headed for being swept under the carpet.
For Theresa May, it suits to allow Christian abusers with a penchant for hanging out with gangsters to remain free as it does to continue to claim that Sir Edward Heath was a decent man also. We remain in a world where Sir Cyril Smith – a vile paedo (but one like Sir Edward never tried in any court of law) is described as a paedophile without hesitation – whilst other plainly apparent living monsters walk the streets scot-free. The late Lord Janner, a nasty bastard if ever there were one, is condemned yet nobody dare talk of a living MP with a predilection for a bit of groping (male or female, it does not matter) in his office.
Shame on Britain and yet again shame on Theresa May. Our useless Prime Minister has done nothing to solve this situation and frankly the hectoring vicar’s daughter didn’t exactly set a great example by accepting the hand of her “pussy grabbing” mate Donald Trump.

For the last few months I have been targeted by an individual and his cohorts simply for my involvement in the case of the rightly now jailed racist Viscount St Davids. I shall not name these people here due to ongoing police investigations, but would like to alert readers that The Steeple Times has been hacked and crashed by one such person and I have been impersonated by someone using fake Gmail and Twitter accounts also.
Messages from [email protected] and a Twitter handle that uses my name and operates from @WankerTimes are both examples of this impersonation. They should be ignored and reported to the appropriate authorities.

The Steeple Times joins those calling for mercy and forgiveness for Raif Badawi
Raif Badawi was put in prison and sentenced to 1,000 lashes simply for setting up a website named Free Saudi Liberals.
Yesterday, the MailOnline featured a video of Badawi being publicly flogged in front of a braying crowd in 2015. Of it, his wife, Ensaf Haidar, tweeted: “This crowd is not a beach party, it’s how moderate Muslims act when they flog someone for expressing his own opinions.”

In comments to the MailOnline, Ms Haidar added:
“We have not heard anything from Raif or from Saudi Arabia, but we know that he will face further punishment – we are not told when.”
“We urge the newly crowned Prince Mohammed Ben Salman to pardon Raif and prevent the 950 lashings being carried out as this is putting Raif’s life at risk.”
“We also ask why the government in the UK – an ally of Saudi Arabia – remains silent, and that Prime Minister Theresa May uses her good relationship with Saudi Arabia to work for Raif’s immediate release and send him back home to Canada to his family.”
She is right. It is time Saudi Arabia showed mercy and forgiveness and until then their barbaric treatment of a decent man should be condemned by decent people everywhere.
Matthew Steeples suggests Labour’s partial U-turn on Brexit is a positive start; they must now go further and oppose it entirely
Whilst Keir Starmer’s decision to announce Labour will support Britain remaining in a customs union with the EU and within the single market during a “time-limited transitional period between our exit from the EU and the new lasting relationship we build with our European partners” in The Observer yesterday is to be saluted, he does not go far enough.
Brexit has left Britain on a knife-edge. Sterling is considerably weakened, jobs in agriculture and banking are already disappearing and businesses, such as occurred with Southern Salads in Kent, are beginning to go into administration. Theresa May’s “Brexit means Brexit” and her ridiculous “red, white and blue Brexit” now seem the ultimate follies and this morning’s comment by Peter Oborne in the Daily Mail is indicative that the lunatics are still in charge of the asylum.
In a moaning rant that he titles a “spectacular betrayal of Labour voters” and aside from spouting the usual rhetoric, Oborne does rightly suggest that Jeremy Corbyn is not a natural supporter of the EU. The Labour leader, after all, voted against British membership in 1975, opposed the single market subsequently and also did little in the 2016 referendum campaign to positively support ‘remain’. Consequently, one is left wondering if he actually truly supports what Keir Starmer yesterday proposed.
The Leader of the Opposition’s aim, of course, is power and alongside his recent transformation from a badly dressed joker to someone who actually made headway – thanks in the main to Theresa May’s incompetence and decision to call an utterly unnecessary election – Corbyn has realised that the 48% are a constituency worthy of pursuing. He must now, himself, come out and be honest with us and we urge him to do what is best for Britain: It is time for Labour campaign to stop Brexit.

Matthew Steeples suggests the Notting Hill Carnival is an unnecessary drain on already overstretched resources
Many will suggest I am wrong to say it, but I truly believe the Notting Hill Carnival is something that causes more trouble than it is worth.
With 300 arrests and 190 knives and 18 firearms supposedly recovered already prior to the event even commencing, this is plainly an occasion that is taking up too much police time. Of it, an officer I currently dealing with regarding another matter told me Tuesday: “We cannot do other work until after the carnival is over.”
Last year, according to The Guardian, 9,000 officers were drafted in to police this event and given locals are forced to board up their houses also, one must question whether this gathering contributes to the community or detracts from it. Past suggestions to relocate the event to Hyde Park have been angrily rejected by enthusiasts but maybe, as Britain teeters on the edge of another age of austerity, it is time to again consider that. The Notting Hill Carnival, in my humble opinion, is a nuisance and I, for one, will most definitely not be attending.

I have been targeted by online trolls for years. As a writer, I accept I am ‘fair game’ for criticism but when that tips over into the kind of vicious abuse I get from unhinged keyboard warriors, it moves into a realm that is unacceptable.
On a personal level, my recent involvement in the case of the Viscount St Davids – a convicted online hate criminal and all round dimwit returning to court this week to again face the repercussions of offering a reward on Facebook to anyone prepared to run over the anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller – not only resulted in negative articles by such oddities as the one-time male escort and Big Brother 11 contestant Benjamin Duncan on the blog of the anti-gay, pro-repatriation of immigrant Traditional Britain website, but also in threatening messages online and a physical attack upon my person. Such abuse has not only taken up considerable amounts of my time and distressed me, it has also caused considerable nuisance to friends and business acquaintances. Now, to her credit, the director of public prosecutions, Alison Saunders, has finally also come to the conclusion that “online abusers must be dealt with harshly” and thankfully it looks as if the laws relating to such will be toughened up.
In an article, published in this morning’s The Guardian, Saunders argues “the criminal justice system are ready to listen” with regard to calls for stronger sentences for online abusers. She references “new guidance” and a need for “stiffer ‘uplifted’ sentences” but what she ignores is that the Communications Act 2003, under which the likes of the aforementioned errant peer was prosecuted, does not have any understanding of Facebook (which came into existence one year after the creation of that law in 2004) and Twitter (launched 2006).
Saunders’ acceptance that “an increasing proportion of hate crime is now perpetrated” online is a definite start and her acceptance that they should be treated “just as seriously as those experienced face to face” is certainly positive. Hitting “report abuse” on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, however, gets no one anywhere. It is in fact our government that must go further and introduce stronger regulation that actually holds social media providers themselves to account for the content they allow to be published on their sites.

The giant, grim carbuncle that is Grenfell Tower is a stain on the councillors of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and it should be torn to the ground immediately.
Allowing this monstrous edifice to bad government remain standing is wrong. Ash and debris from it blow across the surrounding environs and for survivors of this tragedy, that it still stands can only bring back hideous memories of witnessing friends and neighbours burn to death.
Of the building, an unnamed resident recently told The Independent: “The block needs to be tore down. It’s haunting, there used to be faces in those windows.” They are right and that suggestions have been made to cover the structure in tarpaulin simply do not cut the mustard. A proposal to demolish at the end of 2018 will leave the Grenfell Tower insensitively dominating a damaged community far too long and any useful evidence, surely, must by now have been gathered. This giant coffin should be terminated far sooner and it should be blasted to smithereens as soon as is physically possible.

Matthew Steeples suggests respected actor George Clooney and publicity desperado Karen Danczuk provide contrasting examples about the ethics of paparazzi intrusion and media manipulation
Paparazzi intrusion and media manipulation are interlinked hot potatoes that look unlikely to be resolved anytime soon. Two very different examples emerged in recent days of very different behavior by so-called ‘personalities’ – yet each gives indication that something is not quite right with the situation as it stands.
Whilst ‘ordinary individuals’ – and such should include, for example, successful business people who do not choose to put themselves on any kind of public pedestal – unquestionably deserve privacy from press intrusion unless they do something criminal or opt to share details of something considered newsworthy, the issue of where is the line of public and private was importantly raised by George Clooney late last week. The actor promised to “prosecute to the full extent of the law” a magazine named Voici after they scaled the fence of his Lake Como home to take unauthorised pictures of his young twin babies, Ella and Alexander, and he is right to do so.
Whilst undoubtedly a public figure himself (and one whose fortune stems from such), Mr Clooney has a point. His offspring, through no fault of their own, have only become part of a media circus because of their parentage and the dangers that could result from their images being featured in the press are great. Stronger restrictions against unauthorised photography are indeed required internationally – especially in the domain of minors – and California, for example, was right to issue laws in 2013 that protected children from paparazzi cameras.
Elsewhere and though such publications as the Mail Online may thrive due to their enthusiasm for incognito shots, on Sunday that paper illustrated another type of shoddy journalism. In publishing a ‘story’ – if it could even be called such – about the tawdry ex-wife of the disgraced Labour MP Simon Danczuk, 34-year old Karen Danczuk, cavorting on a Spanish beach with her 26-year old “Spanish toyboy lover” as he proposed to her, that paper opted to mislead its readers.
Featuring images taken by an agency named Flynet Pictures, it is plain that Ms Danczuk – listed as a “current client” by Louise Clifford, the daughter of the jailed nonce and convicted sex offender Max Clifford, on the website of her Borne Media PR agency – staged the images contained in that article and that the Mail Online’sStephanie Linning was, at the very least, complicit of playing along with what is nothing other than a moment of media manipulation. The public, however, did not fall for this and of the 320 comments on the article most were in the negative. One, which received 1,184 likes, remarked: “So it was a big surprise for her then with a camera on standby? Fixed photo opportunities!”
Shame on the Mail Online for falling for the desperado Karen Danczuk and her representatives and shame on Voici also for invading the Clooney children’s privacy. Such activities must cease and the sooner, the better.
Update: 8:30am, Monday 31st July 2017 – Karen Danczuk has now blocked @SteepleTimes on Twitter. Something about ‘heat’ and ‘kitchens’ comes to mind.
