The launch of the 2014 Range Rover Sport
Tomorrow, 26th March 2013 at 7.30pm EDT, the 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport will be unveiled at the 113th New York Motor Show. In a departure from the traditional way in which cars are launched, Land Rover have drafted in James Bond star Daniel Craig to star in a video advertising campaign that will accompany this. It will conclude with a live-stream movie shot in “secret locations” around Manhattan.
The hypocrisy of the former Energy Secretary Chris Huhne is exposed
In 2008, Chris Huhne made the following speech to the Liberal Democrat conference:
“For every 100 crimes committed in Britain today, just 1 criminal will end up with a conviction in a court of law. That’s a 99% chance of getting away with it. And if you don’t catch offenders, no amount of threatening punishment will work.”
With his resignation and change of plea yesterday, the shamed former minister’s previous comments now sound as shallow as the way in which he has treated his family.
Prior to the trial Huhne had called the police investigation into a matter that could have been solved so easily “gossamer thick”. If, instead, he’d simply taken responsibility for his own actions in the first place, none of this need ever have happened.
It is good to see that Huhne didn’t fall in to the 99% he chose to describe. Now it is time to speed him away to the cells.

A video clip of a Rolls-Royce Phantom in a far from typical setting
This week’s video of the week was sent to us by Anthony Brown and features a most unusual use of a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
In it, an unknown driver takes the vehicle off road at speed. Surprisingly, the 5,800-pound curb weight car copes well as it careers through the parkland of an English country estate and though the tyres were no doubt trashed, we thought it well worth sharing.

The glorious colours of autumn
At The Steeple Times we love steam trains and, courtesy of Rex Leyland, we featured a video of one in August on Kew Bridge.
Today, with thanks to our television personality and animal advocate campaigner friend Lorenzo Borghese, we feature a superb image of a locomotive in the forests of America. We’re yet to find out where this was taken so if readers know or indeed have travelled on this service, please do let us know.
The image, we feel, captures all that is stunning about this time of year and for this reason we make it The Steeple Times picture of the week.
George W. does a mean Dr. Evil impression
George W. Bush is a man who most of our readership no doubt loathe. Most people know that I take an utterly different view and like the historian Andrew Roberts believe that history will remember him and Tony Blair far more favourably.
Our video of the week, discovered on the Facebook page of Gavriel Merkado, is illustrative of George W.’s humour. I hope it will make you laugh.

Reliving the days of steam
The second in our series of videos of the week for The Steeple Times comes from Rex Leyland who filmed it whilst on Kew Bridge on Friday evening.
In a week when great change was announced on the West Coast Mainline and with further revelations in this morning’s Sunday Telegraph that FirstGroup will also bid for the Great Western, Essex Thameside and Thameslink franchises, which will be decided in January, trains have most definitely been a theme.
Here, though, Leyland’s video takes us back to the days of steam and times when train travel was truly glamorous. The luxury of the Orient Express and the elegance of rail travel has, in the main, long gone but those of you who have been lucky enough to enjoy it will truly enjoy this short clip.

A bunch of utter loons get beaten by a bull
After the euphoria of the Olympics, we at The Steeple Times very much enjoyed receiving a video clip from Rex Leyland this morning.
