TOWIE’s Lauren Goodger is the only client to publicly stand by Max Clifford
Loyalty to ones friends is an admirable trait but there are times when the only option is to cut ones ties. It seems highly unlikely but even Hitler might have nice as a little boy. The truth is, however, that anyone who admitted to having been his friend as his evil empire fell would be deservedly lambasted. In coming out in support of the family of “sex fiend” Max Clifford, Lauren Goodger of The Only Way Is Essex has put herself in just such a position. (more…)
Whilst Made in Chelsea is harmless nonsense and The Only Way Is Essex car crash viewing, the plethora of similar shows that have followed are surely just indicative of the new lows British television has arrived at. (more…)
Blatant displays of wealth are not uncommon in Central London. One individual we reported on spent £7.2 million on a number plate and another is selling a 45-bedroom residence for £300 million. This week’s picture of the week shows two Aston Martin Cygnets in separate locations in the vicinity of Park Lane.
The Steeple Times asks designer Sophie Rossdale: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”
The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?
An inkpot and a computer.
“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?
“If in doubt, add more wine”.
Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2013?
The TOWIEs and Made in Chelsea crew. They’re so scripted and utterly crap.
Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?
My dog, Mojo.
What might you swap all your wealth for?
A time machine so I can go back and find out which horse I should have backed for this year’s Grand National. I’d then put all my wealth on it.
Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank”. What’s your view on the banking crisis?
It’s terrible. I don’t think anyone could comment in any other way.
What phrase or word do you most loathe?
“Moist”.
In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home”. What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?
I like to support smaller charities as I’d like to know where my money is going. I support a charity for children in India because of my business involvement there. I also support a charity for women in Iran.
The judge in Law Abiding Citizen states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?
I can achieve a lot on my phone without moving. I deal with people in India to manufacture and supply my fabrics and being able to communicate with them so easily is just great.

If you could fill a carriage on The Orient Express, who would be your fellow passengers?
Maggie Smith, Danny DeVito, Peter O’Toole, Paul Newman (when he was younger). It’s such a weird mix but I’d rather have these than the obvious.
If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?
I would have dressed crab to start and as a main I’d opt for a steak and green salad. I’d have a raspberry cheesecake to finish. I’d eat it on a terrace in the sun with a glass of rosé.
What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?
I think 12 o’clock but some people say just after 11.
A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?
A cup of tea. I don’t like the other two.
Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?
My own, as I know where everything is.
Who is the most positive person you know?
My father.
What’s your most guilty pleasure?
Smoking.
If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?
A tattoo of bubbles as “Bubbles” is my nickname.
If you were a car, what marque would you be?
Something old and rusty.
Cilla Black presented Surprise, Surprise. Tell us the most surprising thing about you.
I’m colour-blind but my fabric designs are much loved because people consider them unusual.
What’s currently sitting on your mantelpiece?
An empty wine glass, pictures of my sisters and a smelly candle.

They’re everywhere: you’ll find them on magazine covers, on the television and at events. They stalk out the cameras, they behave badly and make utter fools of themselves. In fact, they’ll do just about anything to keep in the “media eye”. Allegedly, Lindsay’s one, Katie’s one and Justin’s one too. They’re forced upon us so much that they don’t even need surnames anymore. The “celebrity” is the force de rigueur and they and the word that describes them has spread like cheap margarine throughout the land.
Famous for nothing other than her wealth: Tamara Ecclestone stumbles out of Annabel’s on New Year’s Eve 2012 propped up by her mother, Slavica
At a book launch this week, a photographer I spoke with complained that he had become bored of tiresome and pointless individuals who consider themselves famous. The truly famous, instead, just want privacy. There are now, indeed, “celebrity stylists”, “celebrity chefs” and even our Prime Minister, David Cameron, has a “celebrity personal trainer”.
Fame used to be the reserve of the truly iconic. Frank Sinatra is, without doubt, deserving of the accolade, as are Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and Madonna. The cast of The Only Way is Essex and Tulisa are not.
Please could someone just put the word “celebrity” back in its box?
In the first of a new series, we seek to find out what has become of well-known individuals who have faded into obscurity or moved on into others arenas.
Our first subject, James Hewitt, will forever be remembered for two things: One will be his affair with Princess Diana. The second will be his “caddish” attempts to sell stories and information relating to this.
We thank the extraordinarily colourful character and well-known florist Orlando Hamilton for this week’s picture of the week.
A tan too far
Goodness knows where he found it, but readers you might need your sunglasses to look at this one. In it, a lager swilling woman provides illustration as to why sunbeds should indeed be avoided. This bleach blonde haired creature further highlights the perils of her ‘look’ with a dress and matching nails that would better suit Katie Price or a member of the cast of The Only Way is Essex.
The sale of the home of a circus heir and the revival of Billy Smart’s Circus
Billy Smart, Sr. (1894 – 1966), a travelling showman and father of 10 children (he was himself one of 23), bought a circus in 1946 and quickly became known as an extraordinary entertainer. One of his son’s, Billy Smart, Jr. (1934 – 2005), made his debut at the age of 12 as an assistant ringmaster in Billy Smart’s New World Circus and performed with ponies, horses and eventually elephants. She became famous in The Only Way is Essex but quit because her ex-boyfriend and the show were making her life “unbearable.” Miss Bright plainly has a lot of nous as she’s capitalised on her success by launching a popular range of dresses and a boutique named Bella Sorella. Good for her.
