Steven Berkoff responds to an article in ‘The Times’ featuring an image of a sub-human barbarian with a polar bear he’d slayed

Yesterday, after I saw a disgusting picture in The Times, I thought I’d write this:

Poem for a Big Bear

In The Times today I saw a bear

A great, big, beautiful polar bear

Spread out upon on the Arctic snow

Its great snout resting on an icy mound,

Its giant paws clawing the frozen ground

Its eyes half open but seeing nought

Death hath claimed this valiant beast

That trod the ice caps, plunged the seas

Pursued its prey, fed its cubs

Its life in a simple but harsh terrain

Magnificent and solitary soul,

You great big beautiful polar bear

Now lay lifeless, useless meat

But sharing this picture, just above its corpse

A human grinning beast, so ugly, so hideous

Wearing a yellow grin of triumph

That he the human beast hath slain

This glorious Arctic treasure

His bloated face was swollen with pride

As he posed victorious over the slaughtered hide

Clutching his arrows he felt so good, this filthy

Ugly human beast, how can you smile

You gutless fraud? How can you grin

When you have robbed the earth

Of one more divine element

One day a plague will hunt you down

Will pursue you till the ends of the earth

No escape for you and yours and it will fire

An arrow in your guts, and you will die a painful death

Gasping, rasping in your stinking bed.

Begging for just a little breath

No one will ever mourn your death

Shame, Sheep and Trumps

Donald Trump’s son and his girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle – the ex-wife of the Democrat ‘Gavinator’ and governor of California – should be utterly ashamed of themselves for associating with the alligator, bear, goat and sheep slayer Larysa Switlyk

Opportunist of the first order Kimberly Guilfoyle and her recently acquired elephant slayer boyfriend Donald Trump Jr. should be wholeheartedly ashamed of themselves.

Known previously as the runaway bride of the new governor of California Gavin Newsom – and a woman who has teased her ex-hubby by suggesting her new love, Donald Trump Jr. and him talk about their mutual love of the slicked-back-hair-do – Guilfoyle appeared in a photograph on Instagram with the nastiest animal slayer on the planet, Larysa Switlyk, on 21^st January.

Switlyk – who has rightly been described as “a bitch of the first order” elsewhere on social media – is best known for paying to shoot sheep in England, massacre goats in Scotland, slaughter alligators in Florida and murder bears in Alberta is a vile, vile woman. She has no shame over her immoral actions and simply uses her presence on social media to sell crappy T-shirts. She ought, like Trump Jr. also, be treated in the very same manner as those poor, innocent animals she so mercilessly slaughters.

Matthew Steeples discovers the truth about the origins of the Gressingham duck

I grew up in North Lancashire and spent much time in the Lune Valley. Here, I was regularly told, in the 12^th century village of Gressingham, a staple of the menus many English restaurants and the most common farmed duck had originated: the Gressingham duck.

Recently, whilst chatting to a restaurateur, the subject of Gressingham duck came up for some bizarre reason. When I told him of the bird’s Lancastrian origins, he firmly disputed this and told me that they were actually of East Anglian extraction.

Having chatted with several other foodies, they, equally, were of his opinion. After then having spotted it on yet another restaurant menu last week, I decided I simply had to establish the true origin of this bird before I went, excuse the pun, quackers.

A Google search didn’t come up with a great deal but it did produce the required evidence. As I believed, he Gressingham duck was first bred in Gressingham, Lancashire in 1980 by crossing a Pekin duck with a wild mallard.

The result was a succulent, tender bird with a high breast meat yield and a gamey flavour. Of it Delia Smith comments: “It’s the very best type of duck available… Because of it’s smaller frame, [it gives] more meat.”

A Suffolk based couple named Maurice and Miriam Buchanan began rearing and processing Gressingham ducks in 1989 and then bought the exclusive rights to breed them in 1996. Their company, Green Label Foods, now Gressingham Foods, are now the only firm licensed to produce the “Gressingham Duck®” and now employ over 500 people on their farms in East Anglia.

Separately in my Google search I also discovered that the main house in the village of Gressingham has recently come to the market through agents Fine & Country. 7-bedroomed Gressingham Hall, a Grade II* listed 17^th century former farmhouse comes complete with 3 reception rooms, a Jacobean staircase and 10 acres of grounds.

A price of £1,350,000 is sought for Gressingham Hall whilst a separate cottage across the drive, Garden Cottage, has a guide price of £350,000. Whoever purchases it had better had get a Gressingham Duck® in the oven for their first night in residence.
