The revelation in the Sunday People that Labour peer Lord Janner has had his House of Lords office raided by the police comes as no surprise following on from our having received many messages about this individual via Twitter for the last year. “The name’s Bondfield, Margaret Bondfield”: This left-winger was the first female Cabinet Minister in the UK and the only woman present at the Accession Council which proclaimed King George VI’s accession to the Throne upon the abdication of King Edward VIII. The daughter of a textile worker, Bondfield was only in Parliament between 1926 and 1931 but will forever be remembered for “improving the lot of the downtrodden”.

When Neil Kinnock held a celebration prior to the 1992 General Election, he made an utter prat of himself and guaranteed Labour’s subsequent thrashing at the polls. That The Sun ran the headline “Will the last person to leave Britain please turn out the lights” spoke volumes but now a letter by him has again shown this failed politician for the fool that he truly is. 2013 has not been the best of years. We’ve lost Margaret Thatcher and Sir David Frost and the word “selfie” has entered the Oxford English Dictionary. The economy has not got better – despite the nonsense spouted on the BBC – and the slaying of Private Rigby summed up the very lowest level humanity can reach. (more…)
