Anna Smith
Former Daily Record chief reporter Anna Smith has covered conflicts from Somalia and Rwanda to Kosovo. She was one of the first journalists on the scene after both 9/11 and the Dunblane massacres and now writes crime novels full time. In September 2014, she summed up the feelings of many when she wrote an impassioned plea to her fellow Scots to “vote No for the whole UK”. -
Amanda Platell
This acid tongued Australian harpy was the press secretary to William Hague when he was leader of the Conservative Party. She’s now reverted to journalism and after leaping to the defence of her “dear friend” Rolf Harris declared “Cliff Richard doesn’t deserve this lurid trial by television” in August 2014. Amanda Platell “ran out of sympathy” for the Duchess of Cambridge earlier in the year and declared “the real gay marriage bigots are its intolerant supporters”. Twitter trolls have been called “evil by her”. Why then does she herself write such hateful bile? -
Investigating Tulisa
In the wake of the collapse of the Tulisa Contostavlos drugs trial, we examine the merits of investigative journalism
Tulisa Contostavlos declared she’d had a “rollercoaster of a week” after she was convicted of assault in one case yet saw off another after it was thrown out due to the “serious misconduct” on the part of key witnesses for the prosecution. Tonight, the singer will appear in a BBC Three documentary that will “lift the lid” on that trial and provide her with a sounding board to share her thoughts on investigative journalism in general. In yesterday’s Sun on Sunday, “warm heart[ed], acid tongue[d]” Tony Parsons ranted about the “waste of money” that has been the “assorted inquisitions into the newspaper industry”. The world of public relations can be fickle and few who work in it command the level of respect that Jenny Halpern Prince has built up since she founded Halpern on her kitchen table in 1992.
