A £100k fridge

A £100k fridge – Sotheby’s to sell ‘Vertical Limit’ Veuve Clicquot champagne magnum refrigerator on 21st October 2015

Refrigerator created by the Porsche Design Studio to be sold by Sotheby’s with a guide of £80,000 to £100,000

Refrigerators are mostly functional beasts: They keep food and drink cold and that’s about it. One that is to be sold by Sotheby’s in October, however, is quite something else. It is named a ‘Vertical Limit’, designed by Porsche and houses twelve exceptional vintage bottles of champagne.

The ‘Vertical Limit’ champagne refrigerator on offer

Guided at £80,000 to £100,000 and designed to house 12 magnums of Veuve Clicquot, the fridge stands six foot tall and maintains each bottle at a constant temperature of 12˚C, mirroring the climatic conditions of the champagne house’s cellars in Reims. It is one of only fifteen made, is constructed from brushed steel and contains bottles from 1955, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1975, 1982, 1988 and 1990 as well as bottles of rosé from 1969, 1979 and 1989.

This unique fridge will be sold by Sotheby’s at their New Bond Street auction house on 21st October 2015.
