John Goodman models the “Dr Evil” look in as he checks in at the South Florida Reception Center prison
The years haven’t served the polo mogul John Goodman well and now that he’s finally been sent to a state prison near Miami, maybe he’ll finally accept the sentence handed to him for the 2010 killing of a young student named Scott Wilson. Given his arrogant nature, that, however, seems highly unlikely.
This week a photograph of the 51-year old businessman emerged showing him with a new “Dr Evil-style” haircut at the 1,315 prisoner capacity South Florida Reception Center prison in Doral, Florida. It shows a man who hasn’t aged well but frankly given the way in which he has repeatedly tried to escape justice, it isn’t surprising that the stress of fighting the inevitable has taken its toll.
John Goodman is typical of his breed. The son of a respected business titan, this Texan has been described as not “remember[ing] ever having a goal as a child” and as a cocaine addict by his ex-wife. He attempted and failed to adopt his girlfriend as his daughter prior to his first trial – presumably to protect his fortune – and blamed everyone but himself for the crash. It was, he unsuccessfully argued, the fault of his Bentley and it was “disorientation” that led to him not knowning he’d hit another car and caused it to flip into a canal. That Goodman was still under the influence three hours later was down to his drinking after the incident “to relieve the pain” and had nothing to do with the copious quantities of alcohol he ordered for himself and friends at The Players’ Club in Wellington, Florida earlier in the evening. Here, indeed, was a coward who refused to accept any responsibility for his very own actions.
Goodman – now known as prisoner W43995 – has also been informed of his date of release: he will be freed on the 17th March 2028. That may sound like a long sentence, but if he’d tried to save Scott Wilson’s life instead of his own sorry skin, he wouldn’t be in this mighty fine mess. May this be the last we hear of John Goodman.
