Wayne and Coleen Rooney buy a caravan – They should have bought the entire park
Today, The Mirror reported that Wayne and Coleen Rooney have bought a caravan at the Presthaven Beach Resort in Prestatyn, North Wales.
The couple, said to be worth some £81 million, should have instead followed the lead of the farmer turned caravan park owner John Morphet and bought the entire park. Ownership of such places is a true goldmine and utterly recession proof and given the Rooney’s also own a villa at Morphet’s Royal Westmoreland resort – currently for sale for £75 million – they could most certainly asked him for advice.
Many will sneer at the Rooneys for their purchase but John Morphet’s success story is truly amazing. Having worked on his family farm on the borders of Cumbria and Lancashire until he was nearly killed when he fell off a trailer, he moved into the caravan park business and built up a fortune of some £135 million.
The success of his current company, the Pure Leisure Group, has been credited to its “focus on low debt and constant yearly profits” and given he sold his first venture, the South Lakeland Caravan brand to Legal & General Ventures for £100 million in 2006, here, indeed, is a fine example of British entrepreneurial spirit. Given Wayne Rooney’s days as a footballer are nearly over, now could be the time for a career change for him and his wife. The title “Caravan Coleen” certainly has a ring to it and it’d certainly be a way for this duo to double their fortune.
