Beating his blues

Conor Mccreedy work sells for £100,000

Aged just 27, South African artist Conor Mccreedy has pulled off an extraordinary coup in selling a painting for just shy of £100,000 (R1.8 million ZAR).

Alongside a time of personal transition, Mccreedy had a number of his works stolen from a New York gallery in 2013 and had to see off an intellectual property case in connection to his prints more recently. He has now put these episodes behind him and is delighted that a painting that took him just four days has sold for such a high figure.

“This is the highest price fetched for any of my paintings”, commented Mccreedy. “I’m honoured that people would spend this amount of money on one of my creations”.

Known for the use of his trademark “Mccreedy blue” colour in his works, this talented artist has exhibited in Hong Kong, Johannesburg, New York and Sydney and was commissioned by Time Warner to paint a version of their logo in 2011. Forthcoming exhibitions are set to include a showcase in Switzerland later this year and in Hong Kong and Russia in 2015.

Conor Mccreedy has certainly seen off his personal blues. As he now focuses on the better blue in his life, he looks set to continue to prosper.
